They are at a really good time/price point... back in the early 90's I loved the HJ Statesman, but at 4K with a V8 motor it was above my P Plating means... plus M&D would not be impressed if I brought home another HJ... I test drove a couple, and a mint 202 HJ Premier, but kept my beat up HJ wagon. If the space was there (say we had a farm) they would have been pretty cool to store and maintain for these last few year. And enjoyable to drive. And the cost back then, pay it off, its peanuts for the costs today and their pricing is much higher... Holdens & Fords of the 90's and 00's are in that place now. 90's V8s are already running but things like the super six get overlooked until the market realises what they were, then they go up a fair bit. Try to grab an original one!

But bloody hell all the other stuff......by the time I got home to fix some stupid thing another needed it!!!! I might get flamed but at near 200K my VW feels pretty much new - the Ford was falling apart. I'm certainly no VW fan member but the BA quality way off good enough imo (but engine so sweet....loved it) |

My old XR5T and my ST were much better built than my fg, by a long way. But they don't have a turbo barra.

Mine was a conservative tune and (most) other cars no chance. At 300K ran perfectly. The roof linen, heater failure (2 of 100 examples) may have collapsed at same time so yeah.......time to move on. My VW feels new in comparison. Last edited by MercuryT; 17-05-2020 at 03:54 PM. |

Ive been in plenty of taxi Passats that feel every bit of 300,000kms+ just like a falcon.
Most of the falcon dramas are pretty cheap to fix in comparison, but thats another thread.

I like weird cars and this 8 Series V12 is only $35k at the moment. Save the $5k for the first time it breaks down.
or try and negotiate the low kms 4.4L V8 one that's currently for $50k down to $40k. I prefer that one much more but it's too expensive for this game at this time. |

Not factory turbo anyway, there were some turbo conversions racing in targa IIRC but still its not a patch on a RX7.

anyway for $40k i'd buy an FG GT 335 manual or an FG-X XR8 manual still drive the kids to school and to the shops and everything else it does its still going to break and cost money to repair but nothing like a euro and its still a newish comfortable car and in 10 years still going to be worth similar money if you look after it

Ive been doing a bit of research on the 2008-2014 Lexus ISF cars. Mainly because I will be looking at a weekender in the next 12-24months.
My criteria is: - V8 - Must be Fun to drive - RWD - semi-reliable (I know its hard to ask for) - unassuming - Looks good (subjective) - Handles well on long windy roads - Needs to sound the part to some degree - Needs to be no slouch - preferred manual but ok with a proper auto. I was tossing up on a C63 or a M3 but the more I read into them, the more I saw some horror stories on preventative maintenance on those models. The Lexus, not as much. With a potential $40k budget, the Lexus ISF was something I kind of never knew existed. But the reviews, Lexus Forums and other research articles said they were a very understated car as they were from factory. Potentially a low 13 - high 12s car out of the box. Not that that part matters all that much, but its good to know. Anyone here know more about these cars?

Agreed the C63 and M3 is a minefield, they used to be risky even with the 6's but now they are too complicated for their own good out of warranty.
You would get a Mustang with $40k..but, ISF is very nice.
