I love beer, and ill drink almost any beer. So i'll rate the worst, Tooheys extra dry, Carlton Cold, most american beer.

Drinking Little Creatures Pale Ale is more like an experience. SO much flavour.

Everytime i go to NSW i love drinking Resch's off tap.

I reckon MB is the best 'standard' beer, i can drink it all day.

Ill again say just how bad TED's and carlton cold are, I think these were made for people who otherwise wouldn't drink beer.

Has anyone who's been to the states tried Sierra Nevada Pale Ale? I had lost faith in all American beer until i found this, its like the Little creatures Pale Ale, but a bit more subtle, thus you can drink it all day.

I would class them in the same category as Tooheys Red and Hahn Ice (whatever its called).

as you are in WA, try Jarrah Jacks Pemberton Ale. I am not a fan of ale normally, but this was an excellent drop. Mash brewery stuff is dreadful.

if anyone else is in WA, go to the Paddington Alehouse in Mt Hawthorn and grab one of their '141 beers to try list'. I am up to 91 and enjoying trying and finding them. Kirin, Mythos and St Arnou Blonde have been the standouts so far. I havent enjoyed the Belgian beers though. They seem to taste of cloves.

I was given a carton, and is now the 'give to mates when they're over to stop them drinking my good stash' beer. I despise the stuff.

Been on holidays for the last week, and went out and spent some cash on a heap of mixed beers.

Got a schofferhofer at the moment, is quite nice and a very smooth flavour. Loving the 500mL bottle (I get two 250mL glasses from a bottle). Also tried PepperJack ale, its not a bad drop and made from somewhere in the barossa. Has a distinct wine flavour, but the beer aftertaste is definately there. Also bought one of each of the monteiths beers (Lager, summer ale, golden lager and pilsener), and all is I can say is - thank god I didnt grab a carton. Red emporor was another, I had a dismal feeling about it, but it was suprisingly good! Even went back and grabbed a 6'er. Errrrm, bee-sting ... was ok, but still prefer beezneez. Blue tongue pilsener was quite nice, would buy this again.

Has anyone tried Bellevue Kriek, Its a very very strong cherry beer, but still not a bad drop for something different.

Anyone thinking of heading down.?... Yes it is a little pricey and gone are the days of the "pay entry and taste till you drop", when it use to be held at Exhibition buildings..

I will probably stick to a "lucky dip" six pack from Dan Murphy's after work!

I went last night, and I feel a bit average...

It is not a night that is about drinking purely. A large portion of the event is beer appreciation, and trying different labels that some people are completely oblivious too.

There is beer tasting and appreciation, home brewing and mashing and all that bizzo, as well as food and beer pairing.

You get 5 drink vouchers (each entitling you to a 100ml sample of a beer - some places give you 200ml anyway

), tickets to enter the specialist sessions (listed above), and a food voucher (the food's ok...but not much).

The VIP payment wasn't really worth it. All we got was a bag full of advertising and crap really. The only benefit is if the specialist sessions are full, VIPs cannot be kicked out or refused entry, whereas regulars can.

So why do I feel average? If you go, talk to the man in the green leprechaun suit from Buckley's. He was so wasted by the end of the night, he let us keep topping up our glasses. I had several off him alone, on top of the other drinks we had enjoyed.

Admittedly, if you're just looking to drink and get smashed, you're better off going to the pub. However, if you want to be directed into enjoying beer and have the opportunity at sampling a few beers, then it's not bad...

The Feral White was good. Similar to a Hoegaarden, but probably not as much of a ripoff (Hoegaarden was discovered ~ 1 year ago by the massies...price went up 33%), and where Hoegaarden has strong orange tones, Feral had lemonny. Was nice. Recommend a go at that.

That aside, get with mates and just get out for 25 bucks. I fail to see the advantage in the 45...really. Might be busier this weekend though...

One beer which I have been drinking alot lately but which hasnt been mentioned yet is Peroni which is great ice cold.

I buy mostly Crown, Boags, Cascade or Carlsberg, Kronenbourg & Grolsch. I recently tried Asahi and Kirin which I didnt mind either but not sure if I will buy again.

About 2 moths ago I found a brazilian beer called Brava in Canberra but I cant find it in Melbourne anyone got any idead about this one?

Just bought a carton of The Hop Thief by James Squier. It's a limited release for winter - possibly one of the nicest beers I have had. Very easy to drink.

If you get the chance to try it, do yourself a favour.

I was only a real fan of Squire's Pilsner before the session, however, after, I can't get enough of their Golden Ale. With the gallons of Golden Ale that the visitors were fed, I think it was almost inevitable.

The Hop Thief was rested for a number of years, but from a number of years ago, the Hop Thief was great. Sundown Lager was average over Christmas. Did you get a chance to try the 10/20 Celebration Ale? Potent is only one way of putting it.

Am both a big TED's fan and XXXX, cant beat Gold for mid-strength.

For the euro beers cant beat Stella whilst Hoegaarden isn't bad either - very fruity.

Mmmm a tour of the Malt Shovel would be awesome. Amber Ale is very similar to Golden Ale, but is alot smoother - my preference if Amber Ale.

Haven't tried the celebration ale though, sounds good though!

Another JS brew that I enjoy (and have right now, actually) is their IPA, it's a little more bitter than your usual Squire brew though.

Awesome is just one way of putting it. They have an upstairs bar where their biggest four are on tap (Amber, Golden, Pilsner and IPA). You walk in, and the beers kept flowing. The only problem with Camperdown, is that Amber and Golden Ales aren't brewed on site. Toohey's brew it due to capacity constraints.

I don't know if Ten/20 is still available, but if you can find it, buy it. It is bitter (almost a dark ale), but not as bitter as the IPA. I'm going out to get hop thief tonight.

I love the JS IPA and most of my friend hate it. Works just fine for me as when I buy a slab no one wants one.

They are hard to find out of Vic but I have found a few places in Sydney that sell it, so if you get a chance and see it for sale, try the Mountain Goat IPA.

Gage Rd brewries from WA also do an IPA, I dont enjoy it as much as the Goat and JS. Not as bitter. Still not a bad drop.

Best mainstream beer ATM for me is the Little Creatures Pale Ale. This is yummy as well.

Yeah I have tried Mountain Goat before - 'twas quite nice. And I hve to say that Little Creatures brew a damn good beer also.

Paxton, I had to order Hop Thief in from Dan Murphy's as pretty much everywhere up here had sold out. Hopefully you won;t have to do the same.

mmm. I got given a case of Stone's Premium Ginger Beer last week and I have finished them off tonight. While not a real beer, pretty bloody good i must say. 4.8% alcohol was a welcome surprise, i got through 6 or so before realising.

I used to make my own Alcoholic Ginger Beer. A kit of syrup, a kilo of dextrose, and ferment. I haven't brewed beer in years, but the fermenters (all twenty of them) still serve a purpose, and it still involves yeast.

As for the hop thief, if I have to order it, I have to order it. Worst case scenario, I'll wait for their next special, which will be out in about a month. I can't recall what it is called.
