Nikked, nice job! But I find it plays it a bit too safe, something missing..
Reminds me of a Toyota Solara.

It's a shame a lot of these pictures have died. Is there any way of adding them back in, or do we need to start from scratch again?

You start looking at clay models then get to the finished model......thinking of some poor nong who has to work out where every screw and bolt has to fit and what type..
Then years later we start modding them our way. I really admire car designers and their teams

Those coupes look terrible with a B-pillar. I'm so glad they kept the pillarless aperture and the signature shape that it was - no mistaking an XA/B/C hardtop profile - perfectly angled & proportioned to work with the rest of the body shape.
That bulky rear end is more like Mustang II, but the II is even worse because it's convex, and had those horrible bulky lights whacked on - like the UC Sunbird's backward step. The EA interior prototype looks like it was created in the earlier part of the 80s based on the seat trim. You can also see how heavily influenced they were by the relationship with Mazda - the door trim style is very reminiscent of the 80s 929. It's also amazing to see how much of the original concept made it into production - with minor changes to the boot & fuel buttons, and the shape of the area above the centre air vents. Even the profile of the glovebox went into production. The hidden headlights on the XE would have been interesting in rural areas. Bonnets already copped enough stone chips on the front fascia - the headlight covers would have been peppered. Even my VL Calais flippers, that are less exposed due to their size & angle, suffer a lot of chips. I wonder if Ford had the concept before Mazda used it on the 929? https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped..._Cosmo_001.JPG |

I'm a little puzzled why they even considered changing the body of the coupe after the XA.
Especially when they could have looked like that. |

Hey, does anyone remember the Ford Festiva (maybe a WF?) from the late nineties full of Sony Xplod gear? It was a pale lime green metallic, lower half in satin clear.
I remember seeing it at the Melbourne motor show & eventually the Ford Discovery Centre. I’m after pics..... |

The 'A' stands for the first uniquely Australian designed Falcon. The X remains as it's a further development of the same chassis (platform).

Interview with XA designer Jack Telnack on Autoline.
Talks about designing the XA at 1 hour 23 min. The XA clays were first done in Australia, later the team went to US and recreated the clays for approval. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9kKB8wqNZY |

Speaking of the XA, Ford US was pressuring Ford AU to adopt the Torino platform but it was too big for the AU market and would have conflicted with the established Fairlane line that was making good money for Ford AU. Ford US persisted and AU designers tried shortening the front and rear of the 1970 Torino body to make it work.
I've never seen the design but I made this several months ago, blunting off the front and rear of the Torino body to see what it may have looked like.

Photo's taken from the Ford Discovery Centre in 2009. I didn't take many pics of the thing though. The "Demon" was another version. A wheels & decals style of thing.
