Beaten by Bossxr8, but what he says is correct. He'd know better than most.

Standard on the XR6 VCT and XR8, Fairmont Ghia and the LWBs.

Oh, and the T-Series.

Well... that's something new. Good on the AU then, it's just gone up a notch on my appreciation poll.

I'm a former owner, and they still sit above the FG for mine. They are one of the most underrated cars from Australia. Some didn't like the looks (I do), but for quality and reliability, the AUs are very hard to beat.

Good to know. I've been considering a replacing the ED.

not sure i can agree on the comparison to FG as i've never personally owned an AU, but i have driven a few and i do agree about them being very underrated. they do drive exceptionally well. the looks may be a bit polarising (they were probably ahead of their time) but the cars are built well and drive well and the 6cyl in them 'sings'. not sure exactly what is different over e series but all the au's i've driven just feel really tight in the engine. nowadays, for $5k, they are a great buy.

The SOHC's always sounded good. The last evolution of that type was in the AU.

Comparatively... my old ED sounds throaty on song. It really needs a sports exhaust through to let her sing.
