Close it was another suburb; Rushcutters' Bay. See you are so old you are confusing the details :-)

Travelodge at Rushcutters Bay, Sydney, while having sex with the ex-girlfriend of his son Drew.[19][20] Melbourne newspaper The Truth headlined its report "Snedden died on the job", while the Sydney Morning Herald reported that Snedden was wearing a condom and that "it was loaded".[21]

Billy Snedden link:

http://blogs.smh.com.au/sit/archives...ievements.html
Achievements: Billy's bedtime story

One of the great mysteries of Australian history has just been solved. No, it's not what happened to Harold Holt or Azaria Chamberlain or Bogle and Chandler, or where the Offset Alpine money went. Their time is yet to come. It's who was having intercourse with the former Liberal Party leader Sir Billy Snedden when he died.
Readers of a certain age will recall that Sir Billy's body was found in a room at the Rushcutter's Bay Travelodge on June 27, 1987. Police said he was wearing a condom and had died of a heart attack. Seemingly his companion fled the scene to avoid being involved in a scandal.
But who was she? Rumours have swirled around a Sydney socialite and a Melbourne busineswoman, either of whom Snedden might have have met when he was Leader of the Opposition between 1972 and 1974. But Sir Billy's son, Drew Mackie Forsyth Snedden, has revealed that neither was a participant in the fatal tryst. Mr Snedden told Melbourne's Herald-Sun newspaper on Friday that the woman concerned was an old girlfriend of his, who had later become involved with his father. She was somewhat younger than Sir Billy's 61 years.
"On the night he died he'd just been welcomed back into the Liberal fold and he was at his political best," said Mr Snedden. "It was an adrenalin-filled evening. I'm sure the old man went out happy -- anyone would be proud to die on the job." The Herald-Sun has discreetly refrained from naming the woman, while The Australian refers to her simply as Wendy. That should keep the rumour mill grinding for a little longer. All non defamatory speculations welcome, below.

No match for the Purple People Eater http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rx47qrH1GRs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9H_cI_WCnE

On January 9thn 1959 the television western series 'Rawhide' had its premiere on the CBS-TV network.
The series ran for eight seasons with 217 episodes.

As well as giving Clint Eastwood his big break, it also featured Sheb Wooley, who played cowpoke Pete Nolan, and appeared in 110 episodes.
Eight months earlier on May 25th, 1958 Sheb Wooley's "The Purple People Eater" became the Best Selling record in the U.S. according to Billboard Magazine, and remained the best seller for six consecutive weeks...
And on March 11th, 1962 he reached #1 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart with "That's My Pa"...
* He also released records under the name Ben Colder; and in 1962 his "Almost Persuaded No. 2" reached #6 on the Country Singles chart

The Dodgy Bros played by Steve Blackburn and Geoff Brooks were a part of Australia Your Standing In It on the ABC in 1983 and 1984.

They were then resurrected by Channel Seven to be part of Fast Forward in 1989 to compete against The Comedy Company on Channel 10.

I never saw Fast Forward as I was living in Japan by then.

So I guess we are both right, I’m just older.

Here’s some old Dodgy clips from the best of Australia You’re Standing In It.

They start at 39:32
Again at 54:43

I still have all my old records , I bought my first record in 1956 (The Rock and Roll waltz) and have a few hundred , what to do with them ? I tried to give them to my son (mid 40s) he said NO!! , take them to the tip or sell them on Ebay - The reality is that any tune I want to hear is available on YouTube so the point of keeping them is now totally lost .
Another was , I went into City Ford in Sydney back in 1976 as they had a XB GT 2 door on the showroom floor (manual midnight blue colour) and I was wanting to trade my XY GT , we couldn't agree on the change over figure of $1700 , they were offering $4.5k trade in on the XY and the price of the XB was $6.220 plus on road costs .

Hang onto them!
I did and still buy new stuff on vinyl - it's making a comeback with Gen Y - have a look in JB HiFi next time you get a chance.
As I said in post #52, we listen to a lot of old formats, and you can 'tape' your tapes and records into your PC with a beejezuz box - mine's a Behringer UFO-202 (sounds like a panelvan number plate from the '70s)- about $70, 2 x RCAs in, 2 out and a USB to yer PC.

What you won't get on iTunes etc is anything a bit low-selling in volume, limited release or even B-sides of popular tracks. Is 'Fling Thing' (B-side to Jailbreak) by AC/DC available? or Can I Sit Next to You Girl with Dale Evans singing, pre-Bon Scott? Dale went on to sing for Rabbit - are any of their songs available, or Buffalo? I'll bet most early '70s Ausie rock won't be represented. Not starting an argument, mind, just not confident in 'mainstream-one-size-fits-all' music libraries.
Most Indie Punk releases from '76-90s won't be there either, again too obscure or low-volume....

cheers
Bonn
(Baby Boomer)

p.s. have Status Quo doing The Rock and Roll Waltz!
