So as per one of the posts in this great thread - can anyone confirm if the windback sun roof was actually factory fitted to any genuine XC Cobra's ?

I have seen two with wind back sunroofs one I know the original owner and he ordered his with a factory sunroof and was delivered in country Victoria with it. The other one I have not spoken to the owner, that car is in Sydney.

33,62 and 63 are on Ford MUscle Car sales atm. 63 is as you said, factory electric sunroof? I actually think they look better without the roof.

It was repaired after being side swiped, so I would expect it to be alive and well. According to the Cobra registry it is now in NSW.
It had 110,000km on the clock and we sold it fo $11,990 in 1987. Hate to think what it would be worth now! |

I went to look at one that could have been 25 but 29 rings more of a bell in Adelaide that had been crashed a lot of years ago now. Was a lot more than a sideswipe and at 8K they would have broken your arm off. Difficulty was it needed a rebody no if buts or maybee. I went down with 2 experts and if it was repaired without a rebody even knowing what it was supposed to be I didn't want to own it and they agreed. I heard it got sold some time later for parts price but we also had concerns about wether the one we were looking at was genuine as a few things weren't quite right. Might even have some picures somewhere. I already had mine for a long time at that stage and 158 is alive and well with me for the last 31 years.
I saw lots of genuine ones and fakes in my time and I can also say I saw the odd race one in red and one which had no tags but was painted like a Cobra and being passed off as a genuine Cobra racer (probably was from the factory but not one of the 400) with rose joints, roller rockers, diff coolers etc that went and handled like stink, belonged to a well know race driver supposedly built by the factory who then on sold it at it ended up from Sydney in the mountains to Adelaide with a wrecker who drove it on funny ID plates occasionally. Interesting car wonder where it ended up? |

From memory quite a few years ago my friend and I both took our cobra's down to a guy in altona to check out a cobra he had for sale i think it was 388 (was over 15 years ago) it was on top of a office building on a warehouse had tassie plates on it but did not have the original engine in it we had a good look at it and found it had a blown engine back in tas and was changed for a recoed engine. Had 150000 odd ks on the clock dont know what happened to it after that.

My late brother purchased 388 probably around 12 years ago and drove it as a daily till 18 months ago , sold it to a guy in New Zealand where it has had a full resto and a big block fitted , so it is alive and well. http://www.panelworks.co.nz/OurBlog/...r-lovers-.aspx |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Cookie, I have photos of the Cobra just after my Dad clobbered thehorse. David Price -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted 441 days ago "Cookie" my dad is Dave Price Crash Repairs. I remember thecar in the workshop after it had hit the horse, which from memory happened nearthe stuart drive-in. He may have other details if your interested etc.... Regards Dave -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lendi Posted 807 days ago Hi Doug I saw #002 yesterday at Maroochydore FPV. They had a GT Day withAllan Moffat as guest speaker. It had been restored back to original condition. They also had the GTHO Phase I,II,III & IV Race cars. It was amazing tosee. . I think FPV will be doing these days around Australia so hopefully theywill bring these cars with them for you to see. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Doug Cox Posted 847 days ago Funny that. #002 was actually the first Bathurst model, the 30 runningfrom #002 to #031. #001 was a 'standard' model. I remember seeing #002 a couple of times, about 1980, first in Dave Price CrashRepairs getting a new roof after hitting a horse near Giru. Took the roof offclean as a whistle. Saw it later, I think it was owned by an army bloke at the time, seemed to havebeen lowered, had mega-buck, ultra wide wheels with very expensive low-profilePirellis and was fitted with a roll cage. Dunno where it is now... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tony Christensen Posted 1391 days ago As an apprentice when thexc Cobras came out I did the pre delivery inspection on #002 that had beenbought by Keith Goodall. The anti tramp rod was not fitted and was lying in theboot , when we tried to fit it the U bolts would not straddle the rod end. There was a transmission cooler but no pump . I thought Keith would 'hit theroof'', but he told me he wasn't worried but just told me to keep all thefactory documentation that was scattered. The guy who related this to me owns another Cobra and he was the winning bidder for the rear window from #222. Also, please note comments on Page 5 of this thread from Brut33 regarding Cobra #006. This should be listed as a rebody.

Just saw Cobra #398 at Shannons car show in Darwin. Looks to be in very good nick as an original & unrestored car..... Long way from it's home state of NSW as listed above in the Cobra registery. Wonder if it has changed hands since the "last known address".... or maybe it's just on a tropical holiday,
Very nice looking example in any case + almost the last cab off the rank at #398. Wonder if the 2 higher numbers above it are still alive & yet to re-surface in the future. Surely number 400 would be a very highly regarded Cobra. Cheers guys. |

This thread has tweeked my memory. Cobra 108, (maybe 208, my memory is crap), was for sale in Red Hill about 10 years ago needing a full resto. I think it may have been rebodied at some point as the body shell was yellow in normally hidden places. I looked at buying it before the Gossie but came up short on funds. This may start someone thinking and help find it.
