I tried out their system a few months ago, but it wasn't near the auction's end so I wasn't contacted, I suppose they're concerned about their buyer's premium at the tail end of the auction. I've bidded on other items genuinely before, but not successfully. The winning bidder in this case hadn't made a prior bid, put in a bid minutes before you'd expect all the snipers to step in, and may well be a valid enthusiast... If you have money, you don't have to live in the big money suburbs.

I have to ask....it went for only $1000 more than your bid with 20 mins to go. Why not bid the extra $1k ?

I would have thought that if you're dropping that kind of money an extra $1k would be pocket change?

Great Question - Nostalgia ran away for me in the bids and even that has it's limits with an Auction.....I'll post some images of the car I had in the late 1980's soon.

Watched the dude and enforcer last night and although they were either playing clueless or are ,but that aside.there is no changing the fluids and a quick cleanup and drive on that thing.with the boot rusted out ,interior eaten out and who knows what else this car needs a full rebuild.anybody who has worked on these cars know if the rust u can see is bad ,what u cant is going to be a lot worse.

Old Ford Falcon XA GT sells for insane amount
A piece of Aussie motoring history sold for a crazy price last night, and it’s even more insane when you find out how much they’ll need to spend to fix it.

Dom Tripolone

A rust-filled rare Aussie muscle car has flown the coop for a huge sum.

The 1973 Ford Falcon XA GT sold at auction for $300,909, more than three times original estimates. And a far cry from its 1973 purchase price of $7000.

The car is known in enthusiast circles as the “Chicken Coupe” because it’s owner parked it in a barn and surrounded it in chicken wire because he couldn’t afford to insure it.

The price is even more shocking when you take into account many of the vehicle’s main components were in a poor condition according to the Grays Online, which ran the auction.

The car was in a sorry state when discovered, covered in dust, scattered with rust, filled with rat droppings and surrounded by old cans.

And there is no guarantee that it’ll start either, with the vendor saying the Falcon’s engine hasn’t been started since 1988.

It is estimated that another $100,000 would be required to restore the Falcon back to its former glory.

But the vehicle is extremely rare and played a big part in Australian motoring history.

Ford only built 120 Falcon XA GT hardtops, and this example is a one-of-a-kind specification, featuring parts from the stillborn GTHO Phase IV.

It is one of only two painted in MacPherson’s Old Gold paint. MacPherson’s is the Australian chocolate company known for making Freedo Frogs and Cherry Ripes.

The Falcon XA GT was part of the infamous supercar scare of the early 1970s, and was born out of the Bathurst rivalry between Holden, Ford and Chrysler.

Grays classic car specialist Rian Gaffy says the car is “as Australian as it gets”.

“From its accidental birth after the supercar ban to its decades in a shed surrounded by chicken wire to its colour scheme that honours a local chocolate company, it’s a uniquely Aussie story surrounded by rumours and legend.”

The guy in South Australia is going to get more than he thought...

The blokes working at Graysonline say that if knock on the seats, the rats start stirring!

The rat poo is about 15 cm deep on the floors, and it stinks.

And so it was that the Queensland Terror Rat (rattus bananabendus) was introduced to South Australia, decimating the population of native hopping mouse and eradicating the endangered scroted pardalotes.

shoit and heres silly me living in Lincoln, forgetting all about Hagens masterpiece, rest assured its not usually in the shed photographed. one would need to be a mix of Hudini, Al Capone, and a few others to gather a look at it.

Mind you Easter next year if this Covid has gone we will be having the Teakle Auto Sprint back again and Hagen will have this on display plus racing his everyday black one.

Hey everyone,

I was out at Grays Online Brisbane yard today and as I was driving out I saw an XB coupe parked up (but not listed) like around the side.

Jumped out of my car (I was literally driving out) and had a look, as I was a Manager or even Owner came and chatted with me. They were going to take photos of it and list it I think he said soon.

Anyway its a really rare one apparently, he had a heap of paperwork on it that claims this was one of only two 427's out of the factory.

Unfortunately it no longer had the 427 in it, it was given a GT 351 (his words). It was a Ford executives car and when he sold it they took the 427 out. Something along those lines.

It was in pretty rough shape but not diabolical, better than chicken coop. Had VIC plates with it XB 000 or something like that.

Anyway I'm sure we'll see it listed soon on Grays Online.
