What I find scary is that the member nations of OPEC are Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Qatar, Indonesia, Socialist Peoples Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Nigeria, Ecuador, Angola and Gabon, they hold the cards and manipulate the Oil market, they are a cartel. Not one of those countries adheres to democratic values, all those countries are controlled by fundamentalists and despots, all of those countries are abusers of human rights, the sooner we are no longer reliant upon this lot the better but that won't happen for some time yet. The Saudi Oil Minister recently stated that it was in OPEC's interests to drop the price of crude, there is no value for them to see alternatives become widely available or more importantly become viable. The Stone age did not end because the world ran out of stone, same principle with Oil. |

While you sound like a rational sort of person, I almost fell off my chair when I read 'democracy' in your statement! So you believe Israel and the US are our saviors while the evil empire that is the oil barons are hell bent on spreading their values in the hope we embrace Islam? Phhleeease. My eyes are not wide shut. I'd prefer to look at real issues rather than take the propaganda sold to us by the Americans. Yes, you did link an American article, in case you didn't realise? You know what I'd like you to do for me? Please translate the article so that I could understand it.

I don't see these dark conspiracies that you appear to believe in, imo OPEC manipulate crude oil price by supply. It is a supply/demand issue, the price is dependant on supply, the world is not running out of Oil, OPEC increases price by limiting supply, do we agree on that one ? |

EDIT: Oh, and how can OPEC manipulate the price if oil is sold in $USD?

Btw, you haven't translated the article I asked you to decipher for me. I'm with the plan, I just don't believe I can convince you (you're a grown up, you can make up your own mind) and the blind and dumb. EDIT: If I'm so wrong, I'd like you to please explain why the US (after invading Iraq) went to the trouble of reverting to selling oil in USD after Saddam chose to make a fortune selling it in Euro?

Have a look here: http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll...807170385/1374 While I don't support the govt bailout of automakers, myself, I do care about the car industry. Does Bush sound like he care's about the car industry to you? Don't forget, he has a vested interest in oil and so has his sidekick.

Either way, I see that the price per barrel has dropped and that our average cost per litre is now around $1.48 for ULP........Seems the threat of the US economy going into recession has prompted a rethink on the World Oil price...........cynical........YES. |

A bit of thread mining. Last night I filled my car for less than $90 which is the first time in years it has cost me this little. It is interesting to note what people discussed in this thread years ago compared to where we are now. With the global economic malaise continuing to spread it is predicted that the price of crude oil will continue to drop.

Last week cost me $80 to fill up, thought there was something wrong. Haven't been under a $100 for years.

Yeh , interesting to see the chaos when I started this thread back in 2008.
Never would have guessed that things would be better now than back then. As mik said , it's good to see Ben Dover on holidays for a while.... |

Ridiculous hey, news just said $1.22 in sydney so add .14 for 98 make it $1.36. We get so screwed down here. Petrol is even more expensive here than when i was in Townsville, average around .05 dearer.
They say because of cartage costs, biggest cop out ever. In Townsville they have to ship the fuel in from Brisbane, way more expensive than a truck from Sydney. Government doesn't care, the more petrol is the more they make. |
