Rear lights were standard for XAs that were sent to the UK. There were off a Triumph Dolomite from memory All the XAs that were sent direct from Oz to UK were fully loaded option wise, pwr windows, sunroof etc etc ( i think all had vinyl roofs too) That car went quickly to a chap in the UK that is using the running gear for a Mustang (Sandy will correct me if i am wrong!) If you go to Sandy's site there are two GT coupes that have been left to die out in the elements (red XBs i think)....they are much worse than this one |

yep, thats rebody/rebirth and is totally illegal.
that XA coupe isnt as bad as everyone thinks. A few reversable mods and a huge clean up and it will be a good car. I have it on good authority that most of the rust is surface rust only, and the shell is very sound. Car turned out to be an unlikely bargain.

Another factor was the current economic climate. I could not justify to my family or myself in taking out a loan for such an amount when i already own the coupe & ZG outright. As well as going for a drive by myself yesterday and realising just how much i enjoy her. So i'm sorry guys, you're going to have to put up with me for a while yet! |

Well done mate
That XA Coupe is glorious, and a loan for an XY just doesnt really make sense, but cars as a hobby rarely do when you look at it form an economic perpsective! IMHO I would prefer your XA in my drive over an XY GT .....but thats me |

I glad you come to your sences. I'm with gcg2503 I'd rather the xa in the driveway then a box shape falcon. Don't get me wrong I like xys but I love hardtops.

Whatever you do, dont go into hock just to buy a GT. The XY GT is the model most think of regarding the ultimate GT in look and shape etc. But the XA GT and specifically the XA GT Coupe absolutly beats the XY GT all round in my opinion. And looks wise, even a combo of XA Coupes like yours still looks way more horn than a normal XY GT ever will. The other thing to consider is the XY being so popular, they are the most preserved model of the older GT's, thus probly being the most common of them all. When I see a car show, I walk past the XY GT's as there is allways so many of them and they all become common to me. The XY is also the most commonly copied as a replica too, so that does take even more of their individuality away too. The XA model and especially the coupes all suffered from neglect and bad design plus all the usual attritions that claim cars too, and you will find GT wise, there is substancially less 'genuine' XA GT's left over XY GT's. The last thing to remember is GT's may be the pinnacle of the range in all aspects of these cars, but GT ownership isnt for everyone. It can be very costly just to get into them today, not to mention if you have to restore one. The pressure and hassle to obtain the right parts, keep it as close to orig as poss and maintain a very high level of finish and completion over the whole car costs big dollars. Not to mention the ongoing maintenance cost and insurances etc etc.

Glad you have changed your mind- personally, one of the main factors that i look at when owning classic cars/ muscle cars etc is that they are different. Now don't get me wrong, an XY GT is a good car but hardly unique really compared with "Pinkbits". I just feel that you would be constantly being asked whether it was genuine, blah blah.....the coupes are such a fantastic shape and a pink one is a bit of an eye turner too! I had the opportunity twice now to by an XB GT coupe and a sedan for reasonable money and so nearly did but I decided that I still wanted a Landau, just down to being more unique...also didn't like the brown on the first XB, nor the painted bumpers but thats just me! I'll look forward to seeing Pinkbits around when i next get to Melbourne again!
