I think it was coming... as soon as the ashes are/were retained...
I think Adam Gilchrist, Justin Langer and potentially Matty Hayden leaving before next summer as well.... Next summer australia may well struggle against India and Sri lanka next summer..... |

The question is who is going to fill in for them... Mcgill? Johnson?

This would be my somewhat novice prediction:
Gilchrist Replaced by Haddin Mcgrath replaced by either Mitchel Johnston or Shaun Tait.... probably MJ because of the variety.... 2 x Brett Lee's in the team wouldnt be good... Warne would be replaced by Cameron White. MacGill wont get a look in. Langer would be replaced potentially by Phil Jacques, or James Hopes? Hayden, Being from Qld, how could you ever replace Hayden? :hihi: Armchair Selecter, 19,000th in the queue to be a selecter, signing off. |

Haddin will definitely be the replacement for Gilly, until one of the younger keepers (Hartley, Paine, Ronchi) gain a bit of experience and consistency. I would expect someone like Tait or Johnson to come in for McGrath, but don't rule out Nathan Bracken who would be seen as less of a risk (and someone less likely to leak runs). Hilfenhaus from Tasmania will definitely play Test cricket for Australia...but probably needs another domestic summer under his belt first. Stuart MacGill will certainly get a look in. Cameron White is not a front-line spin bowler, rather more of a batsman now than a bowler - so he is not an option to replace Warne. White is an all-rounder who would be more likely to replace someone like Symonds. MacGill should get the opportunity because he has experience, and because the other spin bowlers such as Dan Cullen and Cullen Bailey are not yet ready. The replacements for the openers will be Phil Jaques (although I am still not sold on his technique) and Chris Rogers (WA). Rogers is a ready-made opener and has been scoring many runs, for many years. He scored a double-ton against Australia in a practice match in England last year. I would expect Hayden to try and stay for a bit longer, and still think Langer can go for a while. Hopes will never play Test cricket for Australia.

This isnt looking good for australia at this stage.
We are 4 for at the moment and havent hit 100 yet. Not a very good stand. The poms are playing like they have nothing to lose. Pity its too late for that tactic after we have the ashes! Still I would have like to have seen complete domination. EDIT: Its now 5 for 84. Pup just got out. :

Matty Hayden has just tonked the Poms for a ton! Roy is chasing him with a good harfa ton! Will these guys build a match winning score, or will the Aussies have to bat again? Plenty of batting to come in this team, I say!

Excellent day of cricket. Aussies came back well - brilliant stuff Roy and Hayden. Love it. Love this time of year.

Matty scored the same number as the Pommies! Roy has set off on his first Double, I believe! ( if someone stays at the other end)!!!?
What a day of Pom Tonkin! Cheers, Mike

Went to the G today. Poms had no fight in them. Maybe if the Barmy army learns some different tunes..........

5 Nil is my prediction. The poms are absoultely hopeless and incompetent. I was hoping for a good contest at the start of the series. So far it has been all one way traffic.

Englands XI, they should just send the Under XI's.
Nah, theyve put in some good efforts (5/?84?), Australia just has such depth to rely on. |

Not to mention Roy's absolute brilliant 150 odd... He got himself settled, then pretty much scored at almost a run a ball from 20-150!

Freddie Flintoff is a joke of a captain!
he fielding selections throughout the series have been laughable! 5 Nil has a good ring to it. |

I love it how freddie uses all those cliches during the interview. "The boys were full of character" "there is still great spirit in the dressing room"
Yeah right Freddie. |

perhaps, but its mainly due to no one giving the aussies a good challenge.
But without warne and mcgrath, there will be a huge gap to fill.
