I love beer though...but I just don't like drainwater. I like something with a nice flavour. Cascade Amber Ale...that's not bad for the price. |

Seems like there are alot of posers and ******* on here that prefer beer flavoured water over the real stuff. The original poll was whats the best WORKING CLASS beer in aus.
Not whats the most expensive shirt lifting boutique beer you can find that you drink to look cool in front of all the boys your trying to impress. |

Sorry to mine a thread, but I guess if you have to bring back an old thread in the Bar, it may as well be a beer one!
Has anyone ever drunk more than 6 stubbies of Boags, and woken up to feel exceptionally ill the next day, for the whole day??? Just wondering if there is something about Boags thats not good for hangovers....... Thanks Jac

I spose i will have some input in this thread, good read it has been.
Being a adelaidian, ive gota say coopers, pale or sparkling, and also Boags as being the best of the Aussie brews. Of the working mans brews cant go past tooheys new, many a good day at the uni bar on them. West End Draught lol, thats a reason why South Australia should be dumped on, cos thats poor with a capital P, the only beer id turn down and ask for a water if thats not available - a big hard slap across the face. Lowenbrau is a beautiful drop - reasonably priced too, had the pleasure of drinking that in the place of its origin - Munchen..damn i love the maskrugs (1 litre steins for roughly 5 bucks). If i got money to waste - Weinstephaner, many varieties and i havent tried them all, but my favs are Dunkel and Kristall, both wheat beers, Kristall being filtered. These two babys are my fav beers, and would reccomend them to anyone, provided your willing to pay for them. Also while in Germany, i was introduced to Schneider Weisse and Schneider Aventinus, again both wheat, and close rivals to Weinstephaner, although not as easily found as in Australia. Many others were tasted, and have not had the pleasure to again (unfortunatly). I agree with the Hoegaarden brigade, nice beer, but not my prefered option, and omg, coronas.....image in a bottle, but each to their own. Point of Post - Go the Tooheys New!!!! |

I still think that for a decent Aussie beer, Cascade Amber Ale is great stuff. James Squire also make a few good beers. Grand Ridge. Many good Aussie beers at very good prices. Grand Ridge's wheat beer is also very good...I heartily recommend it. |

Beer is a great topic, but must never be mixed with driving.
Southwark makes a decent stout. First time I had it I thought it tasted like turpentine but after the 2nd time (which was a while afterwars) I appreciated it a little more. It's 7.4%. I must try another La Trappe Blonde sometime. That beer blew my socks off.

I just spent 20 mins reading this thread and found it to be nothing but a contest of who can name the most beers!!
Then my man Cruise Control presented the only ounce of honesty in this thread!! : Quote:
The only reason a lot of men don't like the West End is because the red label doesn't match their pretty pink polo shirts!!

Beer is a thing where you need to venture beyond one's small liquor store and taste different beers from far and wide.
To only stick with local product I have found will not give you a full appreciation of the vast varieties and flavours of beer.

I'll stick to Carlton Draught. Carlsberg is a pretty decent beer too.

I had a Mildura Brewery Mallee Bull last night. Meant to be an amber ale, but was a little heavier. For an amber ale, it was pretty average. It had that turpentine taste over the top of everything...stick with my Squire's or Cascade Amber Ale from now on

If you want on the rocks, go for a single malt whiskey. You'll enjoy it all the more!
I can tell you are not a beer person. Corona and Carlton Colds are for people who don't want to taste what they are drinking. Over-filtered yellow liquid. German beer canes it. And it is cheap too!
