Given the coachbuilder was a 3rd party it is feasible that near identical bodies were out on both chassis with some resultant confusion.
When you look at the mix of the companys (Sunbeam-Talbot-Lago-Darraq) i would be surprised anybody realy knows, the only reason i caught on to the cars you posted was i read a book a few years ago that dealt with the history of them, and it confused the hell out of me, they had bodies shipped to one place to be fitted to different chassis, chassis shipped to all the popular coach builders, completetly different drivelines fitted to otherwise identical cars....
There was one set of pictures of what i thought were identical cars, bar the paint that is, yet carrying totaly different names...

Very confusing....

With 60 pages notched up in record time, shouldn't this thread be a sticky?
Bags of fun but I'm always a bit late.

This an interesting an addictive game. I never realised before how the designers and coach-builders have a certain style that is in most of their cars. I guess their style is more unique than I imagined. A number I times in this thread I have identified a car on the basis that it look similar to a more common one and just image googled by the designer, studio or coachbuilder. Still on other occasions this approach has also sent me down a blind alleys as some designers do seem to copy others (I guess they would say "influenced" or "inspired" by others).

OK some clues:

a) US Car maker;
b) The man behind it was famous for lots of things including: retailing cheap consumer electronic goods by reducing the components to the bear minimum; mutilple marriages; being a boyfriend of Phyllis Diller; pioneering in car hifi; giving his daughter an odd name; and crazy TV ads.
