We had something of a spike in new cases yesterday with 58 and 2 more deaths which is bringing our crude mortality rate (CMR) very close to 1% (0.996%).
The USA continues to add about 30k new cases a day and >2k deaths and their CMR is now above 5% (5.234%). It's no better in the UK with the number of new cases per day increasing daily and the CMR at 13.41%. New Zealand only had 8 new cases but also two deaths so their CMR sits at 0.781%.

Do you drive a car or use plastic to pay for anything?
Unless you pay cash, ride a pushbike and avoid all security cameras in stores and on the streets they can see where you went and what you bought and when if they really wanted to.

US is going to open the country up, Australia is on it's 28 day countdown to re evaluate it's trade and social restrictions. Many countries in Europe relaxing it's restrictions and people are going back to work. Governments realise the economy needs to open up to generate revenue. When we're over the WuFlu people should continue to wash their hands and not touch their face.

I've expanded the data set from yesterday to include some other countries that are doing OK in terms of either their case or mortality rates per 100K of population.
It's starting to show some interesting trend data in as much as some of the warmer regions are doing better at the moment with countries like Colombia (9.1) and Brazil (20.3) having case rates per 100k below both Australia and NZ and even their mortality rate per 100k isn't much worse than ours at 0.4 and 1.2 respectively although their CMR is a fair bit worse (4.4% & 6.3%), perhaps pointing to the availability / quality of health care as a factor. It also doesn't necessarily follow that colder climes are doing worse because while some are faring poorly (like the UK), some (like Russia) are faring really well so it seems logical that the measures that are being put in place have more impact than environmental factors on the infection rates. Other points of note: Belgium has the worst CMR with 14.287% of identified cases resulting in death. The UK is next worst at 13.41% with Italy not far behind at 13.19%. Spain has the highest case rate per 100k of population with 494.4 but Italy isn't far behind with 467.3. This is probably also a factor in the CMR because the number of critical care beds per 100k of population at 8.5 (Spain) and 8.6 (Italy), while similar to ours (Australia 8.9), is likely to be below the number of patients requiring that care. While on that subject, the USA has about 25 per 100k as long as you can afford it while the UK has about 3.4. It is no surprise then that Italy (61.4), Belgium (55.7) and Spain (51.8) have the highest number of deaths per 100k of population.

So the chinese have provided new death numbers overnight, and surprise, surprise, they are 3 times higher than what they admitted before. From roughly 1200 deaths to over 3800.
Probably still a fraction of the real numbers. Slimy bastards. Their excuse? Confusion. No not a cover up at all |

You know those hospitals that China built in Wuhan city in a matter of days, well the real numbers are probably hidden under those sites. Was it hospitals they were building, or was it mass burial sites?

Things like this: https://www.theage.com.au/politics/v...20-p53m0e.html and Australian police using Clearview AI: https://theconversation.com/australi...ability-132667 Personally I'm against the idea of the COVID-19 tracking apps, if it became mandatory I'd leave my phone(s) at home or just get rid of both of them. I accidentally smashed my phone at the start of 2015, I decided not to replace it, the only way to contact me was through AFF or knock on my door I ended up replacing it with two when I started my own business but now I'm working for the man, I don't 'need' phones anymore. |

Something else worth being aware of is China's social credit system:

Probably the bluetooth side of it, when your phone is near another they will swap data, a bit like Tile trackers.

649 cases and 4 deaths so a CMR below Australia and NZ of 0.62%.
The death rate per 100k adults is a third of ours at 0.106 and the cases per 100k is about half of ours at 17.229.

Are the Government actually on top of this or are they riding on our (relatively) low population density and claiming this as a win?

There's this truck driver picking up steam on Twitter at the moment with his rants at the camera around everything
https://twitter.com/theoztrucker/sta...42796811177985 He's fairly entertaining, this one is about Sam Newman and his golf sook that happened yesterday here in VIC. There's talk about bailing out Virgin as well, its 90% foreign owned, I think that Virgin can GAGF and it should be allowed to collapse, or alternatively if business wants bailouts from Australian taxpayers then it should come as a sale of their business to 51% ownership to our Government. https://twitter.com/theoztrucker/sta...76283725922306 Our truck driving friend has a good opinion on this too. Are there data sets of flu and pneumonia deaths available?
Edit..found data from CDC. Look at weeks 10 through to 15, a drastic reduction in flu cases. Must be coincidental the Covid-19 cases are going the other direction. https://ibb.co/m5CXHch

I guess it puts us bit of a quandry because the one thing we certainly do not need is a qantas monopoly.Airfares away from the main inter capital cities are expensive now, imagine what could happen with a monopoly.$300 Melb Syd. $1200 Perth Melb etc Maybe $2500 Melb Darwin.Launceston Melb $300 who knows. |

Qantas won't operate under a monopoly. The rules have changed since the early 2000's for airline companies. Another player will step up to the mark and fill it's place.
I agree neither airline should receive any government subsidies.
