Drove to Adelaide for the Cats game, when leaving on Sunday I paid $1.54 per litre. Cheapest I’ve paid in ages! As soon as we crossed the border into Victoria, bam, $2.09 per litre.

Filled the Mustang up. Not quite the same price as last fill ($1.87 or so before the madness) and now $1.94. Dodged those stupid $2.45 number but for how long.

Don't worry it has a habit of randomly increasing 40c/L within hours with no explanation, at least in Melbourne anyway

Why is diesel so expensive? Retailers are charging 20c per litre more than they should, fuel watchers say

He said fuel retailers — the people who run the petrol station you fuel up at — aren't passing on the savings they're making.

"That is the major message: Fuel companies are seeing savings ... [but] we have not yet seen the savings being passed on to diesel users. I think that is of most concern," Dr Jeffreys said.

"Look, the [wholesale] diesel price has fallen in Brisbane and across the state and across Australia, and we are yet to see the retail price follow suit."

Mr Chalmers says that's what Australians are so upset about.

Oil prices started to decline about a month ago
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-...trol/101270490

No surprise there really, people were willing to pay those prices so why drop them?

I found myself in a bit of a dilemma 4 weeks ago.
With us building a townhouse with only a small garage Ithe Wife and I decided to buy her something small that'll be easier than the FG to get in and out.
We picked her up a nice Mazda 2.

This left us with 3 cars and so I decided to advertise the FG.
Around this time Diesel hit $2.40l so despite plenty of interest in the FG i decided to withdraw it from sale and use it for my work commute, some 30km each way.
I wanted to see how much money I could save over running the Diesel, the reduced kilometers going on the Ranger would be a bonus.

The Ranger was costing me around $70pw at the then listed price.
The FG owes me the $4k I paid for it plus the new steering rack.
To begin with the savings couldnt justify the onroads for the extra car but as unleaded has come down and I'm getting 8l/100 out of the highway commute im now saving around $25pw over what the Ranger would be costing for the same distance.
I figure at saving $25pw its covering its rego so I'll keep it for now until the house is built and we no longer have room then relist it for the $5.5k again and let it go.
As a bonus I'll put 12000 less k's on the Ranger over the period.

Thanks for sharing, good info.
Since you already have the FG, putting it to work as your commute and saving $25/week is a real bonus
and as you say, the reduced kms going on the Ranger is an added bonus.

I like stories like this where people figure out what works for them instead of blindly accepting that
diesel is always cheaper to run. Plus you get a nice ride in the Falcon which is always pleasing for me.

Yep that's a great story, well done. My son swapped out the Disco for the FG for work and saves about $25-$30 per fortnight. Though this is a petrol for petrol swap and the little V8 just chews more!

Geographical centre?

Centre of Victoria

Located around 10km south-south-east of Bendigo, the centre of Victoria might be considered to be on the steps of the Mandurang Uniting Church. No longer in use, the church sits on the site that corresponds with centroid calculations from a number of different organisations, including Geoscience Australia, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE), and the Department of Geospatial Science, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT).

Location: 36° 51' 15" South, 144° 16' 52" East
Position on SJ55-01 Bendigo 1:250 000 and 7724 Bendigo 1:100 000 scale maps.

wow, ripped. We were stuck on an island for 3 days where there were only 4 stations, and still only paid $2.07 for 98.

$1.89 in Cranbourne just this afternoon.

Seymore and Heathcote is showing $1.3x for 98! Multiple stations showing the same price. BP and Ampol. Can anyone confirm its real?
