In all fairness, it was a shared chassis and Holden designed their own top hats.

The Commodore was only based on an Opel design up until the VE. Opel themselves didn't design each Commodore model.

Have a look at various Commodore models compared to Opels from the 80s, and 90s. While indeed the Commodore does share similarities the Opels were only used as a base.

Which backs up my above point. The similarities are definitely there, but there's enough difference between the equivalent Commodore model (In this case the VN), and Opel.

Sort of like how Camaros, and Firebirds shared similar design cues for many years.
