We don't have trams or trains in Hobart but it's still very congested in certain "hot spots". Yet these clowns think ok to stop, meaning you are can't go anywhere as my car can't fly, as they want their pick up...... I don't care if ready too much, cool, but just waiting is infuriating. Uber do it a lot here as can pick up at location (No parking spots as all taken) but if person not ready they just put Hazard lights on and wait.....completely ruins traffic flow. |

I have nothing against L platers, most of us have been one before. Bad driving habits i beleive are taught. This morning i was going for drive up the shops. Pulled into a side street, taking my time as no traffic and being a residential street, i wasnt in a hurry. There was a driving instructor car with a learner burner driver. At most i must have been doing 40. And no indicator, the car pulls out on me. Thats some great instructing right there. I was the only car driving down that street, but had to hit the brakes reasonably hard to avoid an accident. If i pulled a move like that when i was a learner burner, my mum/dad/brother would have murdered me.
Ive been the licenced driver for L platers before. And indicators indicate your intentions. Also you dont make a move untill the ghost is clear. Which is why cars have mirrors, and people have necks so they can turn their heads and swivelling eyeballs. |

I drive with my intention of self preservation. Yes my car is insured, but insurance is the one thing you never want to have to use. Because if you have to use insurance, that creates down time.

Hi Guys
Another thing i hate is when your on a 4 lane highway and the car in the left lane is going below the speed limit and you get into the right lane to go past it and they suddenly speed up to make it hard for you to pass them. What's wrong with some driver's? if you can't do the speed limit on a Highway which in most states in 110kph and then go fast so the overtaking car can't get past you there's something wrong! |

I haven't read the thread...but there's one that really ****es me off.
Say you're wanting to make a right turn onto a busy street, and you're giving way making sure that both lanes are clear before you go. And old mate behind you starts honking, because his two seconds of time are clearly more important than your life.

I know there is a difference of opinions on this one. On freeways i like using cruise control. So set it to the prescribed speed limit. What annoys me is moving over to pass a car going slower then the speed limit, only to have them overtake a few kays later, then slow down again. Im not a cruise control person for residential streets like my dad was. He had aftermarket cruise control fitted to a few of his cars in the 90s. It was odd, the actuators would move the accelerator pedal which i found strange.

I never use cruise. For the simple reason that my XH GLi doesn't have it.

You will find that any car with a cable or solid linkage accelerator will move the pedal.Throttle by wire won’t move the pedal because there isn’t a physical connection

Caravans.
Having said that, I am dead keen to do the caravanning thing as well We left early but sure enough, traffic coming back from Warnambool started to increase. They can turn a free flowing 100km an hour country road into one lane of 85km an hour b******t real quick. Fine on double lane highways, as the majority do the right thing. Thankfully westward of Colac is started to be upgraded. I remember driving to Portland with the majority of it was one lane each way until I think around 2012. Also people who speed up as soon as an overtaking lane appears. People doing 85km in 100 zone in a modern car with dry weather.

Its not so much road related, but not too far off. Boat ramp etiquette. The ramp i launch from, you pull up. Take your straps off, do whatever you need to do to prep for launching, then pull into the reversing lanes. Not everyone got that memo. So its annoying but not too uncommon for a line of people doing the right thing only to have a car and boat drive straight past into the reversing lanes only to then get out and start preping their boat and clogging the ramp when theres a line up of boats ready to go. The other annoying thing is its a 3 lane ramp. Im not the biggest fan of going 3 wide, but the amount of people who do bum reversing jobs taking up more the 1 lane. Now obviously, the style of boat and trailer dictates how long it takes to launch. But if someone does a bum job and takes up 2 lanes and takes 20 minutes to get it in the water, it creates quite a bottleneck. Im reasonably lucky to have a drive on/drive off roller trailer that's self centring. So launching and retreival takes a lot less time then the previous 2 trailers i had on the past boat i had, even though that boat weighed ½ as much as my current one. The main advantage to my current trailer is it has 18 rollers but no centre rollers, so you dont have to line up the centre rollers on retreival.

She's an interesting roundabout where City Ford used to be - has a couple roads merging into it, traffic lights, trams and a couple tram stops inside it - pray for whoever goes through it 🙏 Unfortunately no more City Ford - long gone Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 09-03-2021 at 03:04 PM. |

Yep Cyclists.
Had a day off today so a drive on a single lane highway. (No overtaking as windy road) 4 abreast chatting in the lane. Doing what 40? I was calm, used to it, but they cry as if mistreated when call them out but no, most of them are selfish entitled dickheads imo |

My old boss was a cyclist, but had a good attitude towards it. If you cannot do road speeds, keep it on the bike paths. He was a bit of a nut job in his car, and he had had a few pretty fast cars. So quite the hypocrite, but he did triathalons and crap.

It's a mixed pedestrian/cyclist path, works as well as you can imagine with cyclists trying to haul *** in among pedestrians all over the joint. https://7news.com.au/news/victoria-p...down-c-2230318 Basically everything they whinge about being on the receiving end of by cars they do to pedestrians in a bar and restaurant precinct. Of course Victoria Police are going to capitalise on the problem by fining people |

trucks overtaking other trucks, i live at the foot of a large mountain and trucks are the major cause of accidents on the mountain, usually cowboy truck and dog drivers but my problem is overtaking uphill and down hill
trucks have their own lane so they can do there own speed (40 downhill) but you get trucks wanting to overtake uphill as 0.5kmh faster than the slower truck, takes them 5km to overtake... just sit behind ffs also going downhill one truck might do 39.5kmh and another wants to do the full 40kmh so takes 5km to overtake downhill and then the truck lane finishes and there are 50 cars all held up because its 80kmh zone for them. seriously is driving your truck 5kmh slower in certain areas going to really affect your run?

Cyclists on the road: Just slow down and give us space. A few extra minutes on your trip won’t matter Cyclists on shared path: Get the f out of my way. I’ll pass 10cm from you at full speed if I have to. Every second matters. Obviously they’re not all like that, but too many are. |

I'm not surprised as they ring the bell like mad if interrupt them on a pedestrian/bike path. Then happy to hold up traffic on the road. Strange people. |

It's bloody dangerous riding a push bike on the roads, I had a Suzuki RM 125s and I road that on the roads it was a hell of a lot safer to ride than a bloody push bike, but illegal ! C'mon I was safer wheel standing that thing down the highway. a mate who lived out further got ran over by a truck and killed on his bush bike at 16yo. I should of road the RM to school and just informed the teachers where they could go, looking back I think my human rights was being totally disregarded. The other place we lived had a school bus that was shockingly un roadworthy junk driven by a old ****pot who even clipped a power pole one day, the brakes were crap and the blowby smell of that old engine. parents could not give a rats for your safety back then, no seat belts etc. nowadays the media would have a spack attack such a bus would be headline news. even no airbag is considered a crime now. But we still have people who's driving ability's are totally shockingly ignorant. |

On kent street in Sydney there is a bike lane. Some cyclists pick up a bit of speed going down the hill where the car park/loading dock entry to a building i used to work in is. So trucks have to reverse out, typically blind. The building did have an external strobe and siren to indicate cars/trucks exiting, but the hotel accross the road complained to the council about the thing, so it was forced to be disconnected. Ive seen heaps of cyclists hit the sides of trucks and go sliding under and down the lane. Its not as if trucks dont have reversing beepers, and its not as if the building didnt attempt to do the right thing with a strobe and siren. On a few occasions police have done crackdowns on cyclists on that stretch of bike lane, but still, i dont believe this is right, its the truck drivers who get charged whenever it happens regardless.

Is it illegal to reverse out of a driveway? There’s no rule stating that it’s illegal to reverse out of a driveway, however you can’t reverse unless it’s safe to do so. When reversing ensure you give way to any traffic on the road and any pedestrians or bicycle riders on the footpath before you back out. This means checking all your mirrors, looking left and right, and backing out with caution. You can use your horn to warn others.
