What's your problem?
No need to get defensive, it's all good fun. It just happens to be the truth that some ppl are clueless at reversing vans. I'm sure they are great at other stuff...

I don't like to laugh at caravaner's struggling to reverse their van, whilst it can be funny its really a non event as there's only 1 person trying to get their van onto their site, eventually it happens or they give up and settle for wherever it is.
Boat ramps on fine days in summer, now that makes for real entertainment. You get the poor skills and the accompanying angst and tantrums by the next bloke in line. |

Bent 8 that's why I get a drive thru site wherever possible. Saves angst.

I reckon Hayseed is spot on, surely a demonstration of proficiency for inexperienced drivers of certain size rigs isn’t unreasonable. Last edited by Dave1966; 10-08-2019 at 04:31 PM. |

I have been called fast occasionally but you really don't realise how ordinary a driver you are until you've ridden alongside one of these ethereal beings. As for the pushbikes...even on the rare occasions when they aren't _actually_ breaking the law they are certainly showing no regard for other road users. I've bent too many ears among my motorcyclist friends pointing out that even if they are in the wrong, get fined, lose their licence or even get gaoled it's still YOU that's dead or crippled. Someone really needs to let the cycling brigade in on that little secret... Anyway, I ditched the van and now have a canopy for the AU. I'm looking at losing my flat bed trailer also. It is such a pita trying to find parking in "RV friendly" towns, and blocking all the pumps at a busy servo wins you fans...I'm planning on building a dedicated ute pod with space for a queen and separate space for air conditioner, dishwasher and combo washer/dryer. I LOVE ensuite sites. Best thing ever... Last edited by guzzis3; 10-08-2019 at 04:36 PM. |

Not quite like reversing a caravan, but there's also the reversing to hook up the tow hitch.
When I was being demonstrated a Territory before we bought the new one in 2016, the salesman showed me the "close up" button on the reversing camera screen, which makes it dead easy to line up your towball with the trailer. He "loud-whispered" to me, enough for my wife to hear in the back seat - "We call this the Wife Eliminator!". And to tell you the truth, she is absolutely useless at guiding a vehicle back. How many times have I called out to her "Don't stand behind the car!" when I am reversing up to a wall or another car! Probably one of the main reasons I bought the Territory, the rev camera is brilliant. Cheers.

I bought a couple mate, then I bought more and put one on every tow bar.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=62bmgwwRpyo Less high tech than a camera but gets the job done. Oddly I always manage to get the AU ute bang on, but for some reason have a devils time getting the el sedan or the forester aligned, so the cm has saved the plastic bumpers on those 2. |

It’s 4AM and I could totally go a couple of slices of lightly toasted rye bread.

Doesn't change reality. You can hissy fit all you want about your "rights" and what everyone else should be doing, but if they aren't doing it the only thing between you and that wheelchair is your own self preservation instincts.
Of course that was the attitude we were brought up with in the 70's. In this age of OH&S and PC everything is someone else's fault, no matter that it's your life falling apart. |

So.... just got bitched out by an old bloke who brought his vehicle in for a service, no booking, just turned up.....
Why was he mad? Because I told him he had to wait because all our hoists and mechanics were already working on jobs and we needed time for his vehicle to cool down so the oil wouldnt burn the mechanic when he drained the oil.... "But I do my oil changes when its warm" Dont care buddy..... just because you're happy to do it doesnt mean I'm going to ask my mechanics to do dangerous things.... Geez he went off!

I reckon a lot here are getting confused as to what a "Grey Nomad" is, as most of them have either sold up and live full time on the road or retired just spending most of their time travelling.
Not just anyone pulling a caravan.

As far as Broome goes.......I went mining in the Pilbara in the early 80's and Broome was a popular destination for us to hit when time for a break came, the locals used to complain about us when we where there, drinking, partying and chasing the local women around..... It's a tourist town, locals hate all tourists.......not those making a motsa from them though, they can't get enough.....i also ended up living there from 94' to 98', great place....
