But really, so many new iLoads and VW Transporters. Next to no one using the old Falcon or Commy wagon. It's all vans. Some crew have things like 2000s dual cab ute based wagons with awnings and roof tent. We talked to one fella that had decked up his Navara based wagon, done most of the mechanics himself, was about to set off on the lap as it was a dream - normally engineer mechanic on hadron colliders back in Europe!
Wonder how far an ILoad would make it. Haven't seen many BP's these days.

"normally engineer mechanic on hadron colliders back in Europe" ye gads last one I met set fire to his Kombi !

The whole #vanlife thing has become a huge trend for Zoomers on tiktok so you;ll see a heap more young ones getting out and about in vans,

EDIT: Changed instagram to tiktok - instagram is for millennials.

I like when you see the setups some of them have talking about how good vanlife is and they've got 8+ Victron energy lithium ion batteries, thats $10,000+ in batteries alone and the rest of the vanlife setup where it looks like an apartment on wheels.

They've got sponsorships, free fitouts, victron energy stuff out the wazoo and they're getting around in a $100,000+ USD sponsored setup talking about how much money they'll save.

The #vanlife tag needs a bit more context, like #richvanlife and #poorvanlife rather than just #vanlife misrepresenting the situation completely.

Works a treat though for companies like Victron Energy, I'm adamant that youtube/tiktok/instagram sponsorships to influencers are the best return on your dollar, the automotive companies are VERRRRRYYY SLOW to respond compared to other businesses.

Ford Australia should be getting sponsored Pumas out to all sorts of influencers, **** off the TV ads mate that demographic watches MAFS and Love Island and thats it.

$100,000 USD buys a lot of nights in motels.

I love watching them weigh down these things fitting out with 4x2in timber framing, then cladding it in fence palings only marginally better than the tiny house movement they have also ruined.

If you want to see the real van life go on cheaprving.com forum and talk to real people living the dream or nightmare depending on circumstance.
https://vanlivingforum.com//

This forum has been going for years, long before the tend setters who think they invented it.

I would support sending two Kombis into each other at the fastest speed possible to see if we could create a wormhole... for science of course.

The van crew I've talked to have been a bit more normal - surfers as of the location. I met a QLD professional couple who just wanted their own home they could afford and may have been priced out, and were traveling around Oz looking for the place. This I can understand - one partner could work online, and the other was happy to work within what community they found. We discussed waves in more affordable areas, pros (low cost, environment, lifestyle) and cons (work, monster sharks)

Another was a young Italian fella, he reckoned there were very few jobs for his degree specialisation back home and so he was traveling to see Australia and surf.

Our last Nullarbor trips we've camped out and so vanlyfed it in Aussie wagons, very comfortable above those SA cliffs on a comfy mattress in the back of the VY, wake up to see waves over cliffs and dunes. Had a drink on sunset and honestly the view beats almost every pub.

There’s always a few L300 express on carsales with the van life plywood and timber fit out, with the obligatory fairy lights and pic of some feet hanging out the back looking over the ocean. Couldn’t think of anything worse, they overheat driving around the suburbs, let alone barrelling thru the red centre.

The only way that gets better is if they're on club rego, I had a Russian couple rock up to my workshop once with their Russian to English book get me to look at their rental Tarago,

No **** they came from Uluru, the Tarago they had was covered in dirt, they didn't speak English, got here with their little Russian to English book, hired a Tarago and drove across the country visiting all over the joint, talk about having massive balls.

It did an alternator, I had to talk to the rental company on the phone to let them know what was going on.

Heard about a South African couple yesterday, telling their story of visiting our country with their young kids and doing a circle of Australia in a non-air-con XC station wagon.

They do. Seen them post numerous douche bag influencers with their cars on IG. Never heard of most of them though, but they obviously have a solid online presence.

It's not all beer and skittles - there was a completely burnt out, windows-gone, pushed on side van beside the road near the head of the Bight on 2nd last trip, looked very Mad-Max.

Oooooh, I would totally have this!

2000 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 V8, low kms, $24,990. They would be keen to get rid of this, so lets say an even $20K.

https://www.lorbek.com.au/stock/deta...-prestige-cars

While I understand the S-Type was an acquired taste, just like an AU Falcon, I really like these. Speaking of the AU Falcon, there are a lot of styling theme similarities between the AU and S-Type. The interior especially, the sweep of the woodgrain across the dashboard, the steering wheel, the baboon ar.e center stack. The exterior has the same tapering front and rear profiles, similar ovoid rear windscreen and similar door design execution. Hell, they even used a Ford key. From memory, they also shared the IRS design from the DEW platform that the AU also used.

Thought I'd just chip in.

I don't look at Holden's much but bloody hell!!

$12-$15,000 of a VX Executive? $30k plus for a high mileage SS? Are people prepared to pay these sorts of prices?

Bought it the same time I got the T3.

A lot of sellers have yet to adapt to increased demand. Dealers, too.

We're actively comparing cars for a new daily, and some sales guys flat out refuse to acknowledge the obvious. Even if a place down the road does the exact same car for 2k less.

Glass BBQ brigade Holden enthusiasts, so many LS powered Commodores sub $15K at the moment trying to sell off the pride and joy to keep up the shardy parties.

A very nice one owner WHII HSV Grange sitting at $26K at the moment too, legitimate HSV albeit longboi. Values are always less than their normal sized cousins, I buy my cars by the kilo.

Anyone here looking for a project car with 8 cylinders and doesn't mind flying the rainbow flag out, loud and proud - get onboard the Glass BBQ fire sales for the LS powered Commodore.

I see Falcon ute prices are staying strong.

Do you have a link to the Grange? Sounds like a good buy.
This one owner 88k V8 Calais caught my eye, been on the market for a while.
Good buying in a market flooded with bogan skidded up SS and Clubsports.

One owner, ridgy didge original.

WHII has the bigger front brakes too.

Was the Misso's daily driver, so it should only have a minimum amount of car parking scrapes and damage

First step on that car would be to remove the ridicules exhaust tip/s! Why would someone ruin a Calais by welding some pipe onto the exhaust is beyond me.
