Er you mean Mazda T series ! Yes prefer the Mazda version as it has cab suspension unlike Ford cheapening out.

Terrible, terrible thing those were!

My employer bought one of those things brand new in 2004 thinking they were buying a Mercedes Benz............they didn't like it when I told them it was a Ssangyong and it drove like a pile of crap!

And boy did it drive like crap. No power, turning the A/C off was like a turbo switch, it always felt like it was about to roll over.....even in a straight line, it blew a gearbox at 50,000km, both gearboxes felt like the linkage was made from string, the door seals allowed diesel fumes to enter the cabin, at highway speeds it would sit above 3000 rpm and combined with road noise you could not hold a conversation or listen to the radio. Hateful bucket of steaming bullshi...........

I wondered why I hadn't seen one of those in a long time, what a ****box, thankfully I've never had to fix one, they must have all crapped out and gone to the wreckers pre my entrance into the industry, kinda like how I've only ever worked on two Valliants

Is that pre Sprinter/Vito?

These were sold alongside the Vito and Sprinter as a cheaper option. Many fell for them.

I never felt safe driving the thing, it was probably the worst vehicle I have ever driven. Is was bad when new, and only go worse.

On my recommendation, thankfully we now have a VW Crafter.

Wow what a way to damage your own brand, Mercedes had so much more to lose there in that relationship.

And so it begins........

https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-new...creases-prices

"MG has upped prices on four of its seven models in Australia.

Prices are up by either $500 or $1000 on eight variants across the MG HS Plus EV, ZS, ZST, and MG 3 model lines. The prices listed below apply to 2021-built stock; 2022 stock will arrive in showrooms around April and carries further price changes.

The standard equipment lists on affected models is unchanged."

So they have gained some traction, now they are gonna make some money!

I was all for a GWM but with the price of these approaching $44k I’d rather spend a little more and get into a Triton- at least you know what you’re getting, or a used Ranger.

I suspect people will have the same attitude to MG’s. They’re good, but not good enough to start competing with the established makes head to head.

Ah so you’re the resident ‘everyone is racist’ in this forum. Good to know.

So I drove a GWM Cannon X today, and I have to say it was about what I expected, just a good car for the (old) price. The performance was adequate and while the interior was surprisingly well put together, I could tell it was built to a price.

I crossed it off my list after today. Yeah it’s not bad and cheap (ish), but I’d always be left wishing I’d spent a little more on something better. And the grille is a little much in my eyes.

Or racism in the 1960s, the bar seems a lot lower now to be throwing out the 'R' word to shut down discussion you don't like

It wasn't racism in the 60's with Japanese vehicles.
Many of the potential buyers fought in WW2 and had inherited a certain untrustworthiness of the Japanese.

I read you post a couple of times, it seems to contradict itself.

The Italians were a different kettle of fish.
The Japanese and their products were really on the nose but they have worked very hard to change all that.

He probably didn't have the bias if he fought in Europe.

No he faught against the Japanese. Said they would watch the trees and flush them out when they saw well, sh!t falling down from memory.... He didn't talk about it much. Burma and France I think?

He always called the Japanese soldiers "Japs" and the German soldiers "Nazis" but never held a grudge against the races after the war.

Had the Haval for 6000km now, can confirm it has no redeeming features, its not easy to drive the tech tries to keep you in lanes, or out depending on how the wind blows. Do not assume on a relatively straight road like M1 you can relax on the steering it drags you all over the place making it a real chore on a trip. Problems so far include engine going into limp mode after @3000km the TPMS was telling me both r/h tyres were flat. Radio works when it wants, apple car play is ok until you use the phone then it really sucks.

Issues or idiosyncrasies across all the fleet of 7 include;

I know the phone bit is trivial to most but we get up to 15-20 calls a day at work its a PITA when people cant hear you or you cant hear them or the echo of what you just said in your ear on delay etc....

When you hit certain bumps the hazzards flash 3 times the pedestrian warning beep is always going off whenever you turn a corner, pass a telegraph pole etc....

The 8 speed gearbox and software need work its a constant battle hunting up and down the gears particularly at 60. Its a tremec box leading me to think the Chinese electronics/software is to blame for the constant shift shuffling.

Sometimes you have to select drive or reverse multiple times before it actually engages.

Do not think you can pull out into a small gap, the delay from mashing the pedal to action from machine means the car you are pulling out on is all over you. You will only do this once. Best to left foot brake accelerate and spool it up against the brake if you need to get out into traffic.

If you bought one with your money you would have to defend your purchase.
I dont see anything it does particularly well, its a noisy, rattly, slow diesel, you have to drive it and not in a good fun way steering input is constantly needed just to go straight thanks to all the safety tech and its heavy not like the falcon or even the non assisted Lotus

Its enjoyable to get into my own cars and feel how cars should drive. The old work truck a VF SV6 wagon was a good thing and sadly missed.

I've noticed this with our LDV G10 work van, the throttle mapping is SUPER laggy, noticeable most in reverse when you're on a bit of an incline, you're slowly feeding it more pedal and it's doing nothing not responding to subtle throttle inputs.

This sort of stuff is why people think drive by wire throttle sucks, that lag is programmed into it, it's not a symptom of having drive by wire throttle.

I really hate this stuff, I'm at the point where it's like bring back ye olde throttle cable without some poindexter engineer telling me how to drive my car by dictating when it wants to let me have throttle.

This is the same for the Haval truck, I live on a hill and every day when I get home from work I back up the driveway you accelerate, then a bit more then suddenly it starts going backwards you have to release the throttle at that point.

Default Re: Chinese cars make record sales in Australia

As price rises keep coming on these, they will (I think) slowly start to lose market share. The quality is nowhere near the Japanese or Koreans.I would not certainly purchase one(personal op only).
