Damn Benno that is a lot of blower out the top...... suppose it will work out well if you ever have to do a blower changeout/upgrade as you can leave the lid down and have a 360 degree workbench :

Love the "plug" on the radiator in the second photo

Damn, I find myself constantly checking back to this thread to see how restoration is done "the proper way". What a truly awesome build. Can't wait to see the painted photos.

Love that grill, the tower or power, love the whole damn thing. By the time some air cleaners go on those carbs, you'll need to inform air traffic control before you take her out of the shed.

Well done lads.

Cool

Okay, so a few cool days in old melbourne town.

Things we learnt, put a 52 then a 50 tooth top pulley on, made 10 then 12 psi.
Starting to heat up the intake air a bit and was more than likely at the limit of the cam profile. 6700rpm is about as much as I wanted to push a big block. that is a stupid amount of reciprocating force.

Now, if it was a mechanical (solid) roller cam that was more aggressive, with bigger valve springs and more boost with straight methanol .......... sure, mitta made 1200 - 1300hp.

The combo worked well, so I am really happy that the homework paid off.

This was built to last 5 Years, built to be constantly flogged and built to be maintenance friendly.

Guys at Dandy Engines; Lou, Frank and Mark were freakin awesome, had a great time and learnt heaps. Can't thank these guys enuff.

Okay, now I'm all excited about the torque line ............. the body has been progressing as well.

Undercoat, more smoothing, more undercoat, speedliner still coming

okay, so the body is getting rubbed vigorously, much more to go, smooth the engine bay as well, then more undercoat, and more.

Smoothing out engine bays, those who know will shudder, those you dont,
imagine pouring high fill into a egg carton and sanding out the edges until it's an ice cube tray ................

Thanks for the kind words gents, thankyouverymuch

well, this week has been all the piddly stuff that isn't much fun.
Next week i'll pull the sump off and check the mains and big end bearing for marks (which there won't be any!) and re tension the head bolts.

The car is now upside down and very close to having a cleanup and speed liner applied. Then more undercoat and fill.

Okay, been away with work for a while, in the meantime, body has had 3 layers of undercoat, each time blocked back and filled. The engine bay is smooth as the notional baby's bum and the lines on the LTD are really starting to firm up.

Next week the prep will be finished and it be off for colour and air brushing.

The bonnet now has 4 pins, each spring loaded with rubber mounts. The underside of the bonnet has been filled in and around the support braces. Same with the boot.

The underside of the bonnet has a lip around the pin holes and crush tubes in the centre for positive location.

If you're wondering about the appearance of those holes in the smooth engine bays, they are functional

1. Engine Puke Tank from both Rocker Covers
2. Transmission Puke Tank (Powerglides tend to spit a bit)
3. Radiator Overflow
4. Water/Methanol Reservoir

Off for Colour tomorrow!
