Sandy has looked after me good, anything i want she usually can get in for me. got heaps from her for my AU, now i got a BA XR8, gotta start doin more to it now. fair few Ks on the wagon. AU1 brakes are so small.

Does anyone have a photo of the series 1 front calipers next to the AUII-BF fronts from behind? I want to compare the bolt pattern for mounting the calipers to the spindle.

Also a pic of an AUI spindle next to an AUII spindle showing the holes for the caliper bolts. Want to know if the caliper sits in the same position or if it is closer/further from the centre on the later models.

And the good gear is getting dear too. Went to see Sandy today to get the bits, not $450 anymore : . If she had any in stock, it'd be $780 for everything except the hoses (planning to get braided).

If I want it now, she can get it ex Sydney... for $950!!! Too many ppl know about this.

my upgrade seems like a bargain. paid $60 each for the BA calipers, lower control arms were the most expensive part. they weren't that dear tho, prob $300 for the pair, if that. it was bout 12 months ago. hunt round for lower control arms outta AU2 same as BA, need the BA spindles tho, they have a hook for the brake line to clip into on the back to keep it away from the shock&spring. Found that out the hard way. Not sure if the AU2's were the same or if they still had the the brake line clipped to the bottom of the suspension. Anyone?

Somewhere in this thread someone mentioned using cable ties if the clips were wrong. I'll keep an eye out for any fouling. I have a Ser 3 beside mine in the shed for comparison.

Am trying other wreckers - have had emails from 3 in Melb who have Ser 2 or 3 bits. Have to ring them for prices tho. Hope they open Sat.

Mr Psycho - I happen to have a set of AU1 callipers lying around, and the AU1 spindles as well (aren't you lucky I throw nothing away?). I will be working on an AU2 tomorrow, installing lowering springs, so will try and remember to take some measurements and pics of the AU1 and AU2 callipers (from the rear), and both spindles. Will post them up here tomorrow arvo at some stage.

Yeah ... the recall is for faulty lines that get brittle over time and crack .... might be piece of mind to see if you can get the rubber hose section replaced with braided instead.

Which is for the rear hoses. Most of us are doing fronts only and from what I've read any doing rears as well are keeping the AU hoses.

It's good to know there's an issue, but please be careful not to overstate its importance.

Not required. The AU2 brake mounting holes are closer together than the AU2 ones, so you couldn't fit AU2 brakes to an AU1 spindle, without drilling more holes in the spindle, which I'm sure wouldn't be safe. The difference is around 30mm, and there's not that much material in the AU1 spindles to work with. Also, the AU2 bolts are both the same size, while the AU1 bolts use one large diameter and one smaller diameter.

doesnt matter, used my old brake lines.








Brakes went on today. no real dilemmas.

except the lines werent long enough. so we used my old AU2 lines and had to grind a little piece so they fitted to the caliper.

other than that, sweet.


and they clear the rims by a few mm hahah

nah technically Mudzy and Adam did the springs (car got lowered too), Dave did the brakes.

and Matt basically stood around. he topped up the brake fluid resoivoir once when bleeding the brakes, and he wiped a capiler with a rag. thats about it

has anyone got a pic of a AU2 caliper and the BF xr8 together? the reason i ask is i had a BF xr8 parked near my Fairlane today and i couldnt see that much difference.!!

There's not much difference. AU2 front rotors are 287mm, BA ones are 298. So the callipers on the BA will be slightly larger to accommodate the 11mm rotor diameter difference.

If you have AU1 brakes, upgrading to AU2 or BA is worthwhile. If you have AU2 brakes, upgrading to Territory brakes is the way to go, as they are 322mm front (and 328 rears).

I was told the green ones arnt good unless you really use your brakes ( race ). The red ones are supposed to be ok??

I dunno if it's been covered, but the bracket for the AU2 sway bar, are the holes already in the chassis rail?

If you are interested in doing this upgrade,I have a set of territory rotors that have done about 1000k's. If you can get the calipers for them you can have the rotors for free. I'll be glad to get them out of my garage and give me some more shelf space.

If I wanted to fit the BA conversion to my EA would I have to make new mounts for the swaybar? Just wondering what needs to be done. Thanks
