Not only cooler to have a proper truck pulling a van, much safer too.
Not hard to see why these grey nomads cruise under the posted speed limit. With their rigs at or over gross mass, likely had multiple moments where they've nearly the sucked the seat up through their **** in a lapse of concentration. They must be rooted after driving all day with the **** dragging on the ground and being tailgated from every other road user.

When I did my time we had a customer with a MAN 4x4 who uses it for accessing remote or cut off areas to film natural disasters and other unfortunate events. Has living quarters as well as pto/hydro winch and a small crane from memory. Wouldn't be a bad way to see the sights.

While looking for pic/video of the MAN above I see he set up an old MAN in the NW. Probably threw it in after realising most red alerts are for 100kmh winds.

I want a V8 4x4 for my next car since they won't exist soon.
I don't tow heavy loads but I go off road.

LandCruiser, Patrol Y62 and Ram 1500 are my only real options I think and they're all too basic in looks and tech based on the asking price.
Grand Cherokee has decent tech and looks, but I already own one and I don't know how I feel about upgrading to something that is very similar. Seems boring.

Aswell and no ground clearance, the SRT Grand Cherokee has no low range and no proper transfer case lock, instead an LSD in the T/C. They're more of an awd car in a tall body instead of a traditional 4wd.
But the normal GC can be had with the 5.7 with a locking low range.
There is the Lexus LX570 with around 300kw. New ones are hideous but the pre facelift aren't too bad on the eye, with better ground clearance and smaller rims so more suitable off road.
The yanks had the 200 with the same petrol V8, its a bugger it was never an option here.

not sure about latest gen jeep (i havent had "issues" as such yet)
but yes some older gens of recent had some reliability issues
one i have heard of is transmission , where they use to out source them and it wasnt handling the vehicles situation as well as repair parts availability
but from what ive heard the newer trans is back in house built and less dramas

if you are looking at one id suggest get one with the off road pack which comes with sump guard , air suspension with three different height lvls not includinng parked lvl for getting in n out and diff lock rear (this gear can come standard on some models)
also if your in to your cd's and not memory sticks the MY18 (what i have) and newer doesnt have a cd payer and cant have one fitted , but id suppose you could use a walkman cd player and aux jack , this i did find annoying as i have all these cds and audio books on cd

They have a decent payload and 3.5T towing so that's surprising.

On the Grand page everyone who has sold an Asian diesel 4x4 and bought a Grand Cherokee to tow say they they love how great it is at towing.
That could be because they have more power and torque, tech and feel pretty nice to drive. Personally I don't recall ever seeing one dragging it's ***.

5 Year warranty. The new ones are pretty reliable. They won't win any reliability competition compared to some other brands, but it's not as bad as some non owners make it out to be.
My 2016 as been good since new.

Might start taking pictures of this stuff. Cafe at Glenrowan seems to be the place to spot then. btw... I love all the maufacturers claiming this 3.5T towing capacity on their advertising.

Well after 7 pages, It's pretty obvious you're either going have to buy 2 vehicles or make some Severe compromises to your must have list..

Just thinking back to when I saw this one now, I reckon It might have been a bad choice in the caravan, not so much the car. (even though it was chock a block full to.)
The van I remember had its dual axles set way back on the frame causing it to nose down on the cars tow bar.
Just wondering why a new van would have its axles so far back with no counterbalancing weight behind.

Noticed van was built in ballarat ???

Axles set more rearward is better for stability.

Maybe not so much in this application though.

I know everyone say this but working with pivots and fulcrums, everyday this still makes no sense to me.
Doesn't really make sense as anything you slide axles back on makes a heavier pivot forward. (which is OK if the rght tow vehicle is used)

Semi's and 5th wheeler vans (having their pivot point slighty forward of the drive axle) I can understand but caravans where the pivot is well behind the cars axle and no counterweight behind the vans axle surely pushes weight down onto the ball, which in turn drops the back of the vehicle further down on the ground causing the front of the vehicle to rise causing an unstable towing situation IMO.

I can see the opposite logic in some 5th wheel van designs here where the axles are forward a little to take some weight of the pivot point on smaller tow vehicles.
