Yes at the fly.... not at the wheels..... 200 kw at the fly is around 150 - 160 at the wheels. I think 200 at the wheels is still optimistic.

no argument - 200rwkw is exceedingly optimistic for a tune based outcome.

Like I said... these engines can have performance ECU tune to 400hp+ or something ridiculous.

Im looking forward to what the tuners can get out of these engines, with zorst, bigger cooler and other bits and bobs there could be some surprising numbers!!

As someone else has already mentioned SR20DET like mumbo or better!!

by the time you tune it to those figures, the fuel advantage over the I6 will have all but evaporated so you may as well just buy a 6cyl to begin with. at least then if you are someone who likes to mod, you have a much higher ceiling.

if you ask me i can't see these becoming a cult car and can't see many being tuned. they'll be mainly a fleet/rental hack - a very good one.

Drove a G6E Ecoboost on the weekend. Quite impressed for what it is and I found the engine to be very quiet (both inside the cabin and hearing it take off). Power was very linear, torque was surprising good and there was no evidence of it struggling in any shape of form. Having said this I wouldn't describe it as fast either, or better than standard 6. I would just say that it was just as capable, but will better fuel economy. For the environmental and/or fuel saving conscious I don’t think you can go past the LPi

It would be interesting to drive Ecoboost and 3.0 SIDI back top back and feel the difference..

considering there is hardly any difference in power and that SIDI's peak torque figure arrives a good couple thousand rpm earlier in the ecoboost, i'd say the difference will be noticeable. no doubt it will be one of the 1st comparos done.

Not necessarily. Properly modded cars can get same or even better fuel economy than standard. Most turbo charged cars run very rich from the factory. With tuning this is leaned out for more power, plus it will then get better fuel economy. My old WRX made about 50% more power than standard and the fuel economy was the same if not better than stock.

in theory, but some were talking about tuning these to 200rwkw. that would be a gain of 50-60rwkw from factory. i'm guessing the fuel maps on these things are going to be a lot more involved than the I6 and to get that power you will need more fuel in. no question.

They will be limited by the small turbo and the injectors. From what I can tell you can't fit bigger direct injectors, and the standard ones probably won't handle much extra fuel flow.

Sounds like the issue with my LV TDCI Focus, special type of injectors, won't flow much higher than factory, no one makes any aftermarket ones.

You would think Ford might have thought just a little ahead, and given it some easier upgrade paths, because it seems like a good package to tune in theory. Would have helped gain some sales?

Microfuler injector in the inlet port and bigger turbo, intercooler.
All the stuff serious modifiers do when they set out for serious power.

There are some 1000-1200 hp XR6 Turbos running around so it's highly probable
that someone will take it upon themselves to have the first 500-600 hp EB 20...

Ecoboost is completely different to any other DI turbo set up, they use unique
combinations of know engine strategies that Ford has patented in their software
to prevent other companies reverse engineering and copying.

That part throtle richnes which was a hallmark of turbos has been replaced by
"lean boosting" with a lot of EGR and precise ignition timing- cam timing- DI pulses
to make the fuel efficiency claims workstop and stop the whole thing going bang

I'm still wondering why all this talk of trying to get 15 gazillion RWHP from this car.

I would have thought that people who buy one will want a big car with small car economy.

If you simply have to get the front wheels to lift off at the lights buy a GT.

Manufacturers dont extract more power the same way as the aftermarket industry does, and even when they do they still have to follow the same practises they did to get the power in the first place. So i dont think its of particular concern to them if they cant simply plug in a laptop and increase the power.

Take a look in Hot 4s magazine, they've got 4 cylinder engines with all sorts of combinations, the jap import crew don't generally like V8s.

Human nature, tell some people not to do something or go somewhere and they will do the opposite.

Give someone a diesel option and they will want 700 hp...

Sure you can go buy a GT for $77,000 but there are some complex people
out there who just have to prove something to themselves and others...
The kind of people who wanna go kick sand in the face of SS Commodore drivers...

Now that is a funny thought, an SS Commodore getting flogged by a 2 litre in an XT Falcon.

I agree. It would be my reason for buying one. Plus in Qld its about $150 cheaper to register. So it's win win all round. Except I have to keep my XR50 for a while yet

Maybe by the time I'm ready to upgrade, they'll have a XR6 Ecoboost.

Performance mods are limited by what you have to work with,
