Westpac has one also.

Actually I am pretty sure that all the big 4 banks have something set up.

Donating thru the banks is a better idea. I like that thought.

Indeed

On behalf of myself, the forums donated $300.00 towards the relief via CBA

I would stress to all that even a small donation adds up at the end of the day and goes 100% all the way

Would love to see the $950 cash bonus canned, and the lot given to the people affected by these events. I'm in shock.

We were just saying at my house that maybe they should have an option to sign it over to charity. I'd love $950 but I can do without it.

Just a thought, would the administrators of this site consider changing the banner for a couple of weeks to include information like below?

AFF - Supports the Victorian Bushfire Appeal
www.redcross.org.au
1800811700

Given the magnitude of the disaster I think it would be a good small token that may increase help provided to others on top of the generous support already provided by AFF

Organistation I work for has started a dollar for dollar donation matching fund with funds going to the Red Cross. With auto payroll deduction it makes it an easy way for employees to donate and have their donation matched and admin provided by the Red Cross ensures receipts are issued if requested.

Employees have the choice of donating to QLD or VIC as its a national organisation.

A very good way to ensure the cash gets through. I would encourage any organistation that is thinking of helping to look at this model

i was also thinking about what we could do as a forum to help out those in the most need

we as a forum have heaps of people with skills ect that could be used to help those rebuild

i am a welder and i know we have chippies , sparkies, plasterers ect and i am sure we have many other trades covered in just vic

just wondering if we can have some of these trades offer there time free of charge to help with the rebuild the homes of these people

i am also sure that some of the hire places around would also help out with equipment

i can look into it if we need to

Jacqui and I have transferred $50 over. I strongly urge that everyone donate something no matter how small as it will all add up. These poor people need as much help as possible. As they've said on the news, after the flames are out and the dust settles, there will be years of rebuilding.

Me and my Mrs have donated $100 each - being on the other side if the country it makes it difficult to offer anything else. But we wanted to give something.

There has just been confirmation of a Royal Commission into the fires in Victoria. I just hope the investigators can find enough to charge these murderers. There is no excuse for being an arsonist or fire bug. None what so ever. These people are mass murderers.

i hope the fire wasnt lit deliberately . i need evidence before i accept that fire bugs cause this . it seems to be every time there is a fire now . the media declares it deliberately lit , as a given . but fires happen naturaly and it was 47 degrees . i know there are sick people around everywhere , but i dont want false news going around just to make a catastrophe worse, for media hype.
how can the tell if a fire was deliberately lit . either they found someone lighting the fire with fuel cans , or it is pure speculation . i'm not going to simply assume that every catastrophic bushfire is deliberately lit.
where is the proof??? if there is no proof then whoever is advertising it is just as bad, at creating ill conception on society.

Ok I'm a bit puzzled on this. As yet there is no evidence what so ever that these fires were deliberatly lit, and yet theres lots of talk about it etc etc. Why has this escalated into a withc hunt with no clear evidence as yet?

The reason they suspect the fires were deliberately lit is due to the speed and size they got up to all of the sudden. This is why they are looking into arson but by no means does that mean it was definately deliberate.

This is true, however all the major networks, and Christine Nixon (the Victorian Police Commissioner) have stated that there is evidence that some of these fires are deliberately lit.

There have been some fires started by Lightning. Mostly in the south of Victoria.

If they are deliberately lit then I hope they catch whoever did it. Nothing they get will be justice. I haven't lost my house but have lost friends many others have lost everything. Most can't be replaced, I just hope that they feel guilt as IMO that will be the hardest thing for them to deal with.

I was in Marysville 3 weeks ago, and it was just a perfect day.
We were there around midday for lunch, and it was such a great environment.

That day we spent the day walking the Cathedral Ranges (6.5 hours), then returned to Marysville for dinner. I quite enjoyed dinner...

The hotel where we enjoyed dinner has been razed to hell, as has the bakery I would assume.

Three weeks ago, you would nEVER have ever thought the place would be wiped off the map shortly afterwards.

And if they catch people lighting fires that result in this (lives and houses lost), I have a fat vote for the death penalty. I don't want my tax dollar paying for these mongrels in prison, and they will never fulfill a role in society.

According to a caller on 3AW, LOOTING is happening in BUXTON.
Bring on the American way of dealing with them.

Edit: There are fears for the safety of former Young Talent Time host Johnny Young who has'nt been heard of for some days.
