Have a look at echo.net.au

A great no of state federal local pollies attached themselves to the opening

Rereading it appears built by local council with some funding state and feds perhaps

It’s sad the trains don’t run anymore but this the next best use

Great flick. Shame about the L class locos not turning a wheel in anger before being scrapped. The SAR bought some of them as well they became the 740 class.Heres hoping that the next instalment will cover some narrow gauge action with the NSU's ,which as a side note all still exist, and the NT class which I believe may have been the last class of diesels to run through the Pichi Richi Pass before closure. Obviously one runs the line now in preservation.

Some interesting rail pics on the way home. Pity about the window glare.

Leaving $ydney Central 7.40am.

Streamliner waiting on the loop.

always plenty of SSR (Southern Shorthaul Rail) locomotives sitting around Cootamundra and Junee. (saw several, never got a pic )
This rail company are running a completely rebuilt older fleet of mostly streamliners which makes for some colourful paint schemes. (nmp)

Unusual semi trailer MAN diesel prime Mover with a detachable rail trailer. ?

Beautiful Albury station, longest rail station in the Southern Hemisphere.

Rarely is an XPT laid up for 24 hours but due to trackwork this train couldn't make it back to $ydney in time so was kept at Albury in the yard and used the next day for Albury to Melbourne service only. Before finally returning back to $ydney today.

This marshaling yard is the old site where the NSW standard gauge train carriages needed to be lifted and swapped over to Vic wide gauge back as late as the 1970's. ARTC standard gauge runs both up and down lines now.

Think there was an XPT driving car 'parked'at Benalla recently -mechanical problems.
When do the new XPT replacements start service?
Do they have sleepers?

The northbound one on our day of travel south was 3 1/2 hours late. I kept looking out for it before Junee (double lines) and then on a section between Wagga with a passing loop. It didn't pass until we were just outside Albury at 3.40. Guess there would have been some p*ssed off travelers heading north before the planned trackwork on Saturday. (yesterday)

They reckon the new one will be in operation 2025 if the drivers haven't still got a black ban on them.

They better have sleepers on them, there's a lot of speculation around this.

I guess they were ordered by Gladys?
So prob not.
An expensive local refit?
Queensland rail have ng metro trains which have been heavily modified ( built in India) at Maryborough Qld. Spec sheet supplied by liberal gov was wrong.
Didn’t allow for handicapped travellers.
Why has the loco drivers union got a ban on the new xpt replacements

They say the new trains are dangerous, built in Spain just like the $ydney trams that are falling apart over every bump.
They believe they are NOT up to standards.

Glady should be in Gaol as far as I'm concerned, now we have services NSW ripping million of bucks of the people for years.

NSW gov are corrupt just in case anyone from Govco are listening in here.

Interesting.
I am off to Auckland in a couple of weeks.
Kiwirail have just bought 77 Spanish built DM class locos to replace their South Island fleet of GE and GM locos which are 1970 s vintage.
Kiwirail also operate emu s in Auckland which are Spanish built.
I ll get some feed back when I m over there.
The biggest fleet of diesels in the North Island (over last ten years these came in )is Chinese built DL class.
These are rubbish -some have been retired already.
Meanwhile Clyde rebuilds of GM 12 series dating back to the 60 s are still running- they are I think very similar to VR T class.

Funny when you consider companies like SSR are totally refurbishing 60s Streamliners to argument their fleet of classics.

Said it before and I'll say it again, the Commeng built V sets still in operation on the Newcastle line are still the most comfortable carriages I've traveled in anywhere.

Smile Re: The railway thread

I went to Junee for a steam special a year ago now and was blown away by the Bethungra spiral and of course the 59 class on point. The Bulldogs are still running around here in South Australia but who knows for how long. The older GM's one would think are on borrowed time. perhaps will go the way of Alcos over here on the mainline.
