I added a stubby nozzle to my EGO blower today, making it more ergonomic to use as a car dryer.









My dedicated Big Boi blower is more thorough, but convenience of using a cordless blower is handy when I'm pressed for time.............or lazy. The stubby nozzle improves the user experience by being easier and safer to manage when moving around the car.

In light of this week's release of select Obsessed Garage products sold through Detailing Shed, I'm going to review each of those products as separate posts.

First up, Obsessed Garage Decontamination Soap-

This soap was originally a product called Chemical Guys Citrus Red, which was eventually discontinued. After using it for a number of years, Matt wanted to keep this product alive, eventually tracking down the blender and having it remade exclusively for his store. At some stage, the colour was changed from orange to purple.

So, what is this soap used for? Obsessed Garage Decontamination Soap is a solvent based alkaline product with a pH reading of 10.0 It's primarily used to strip and decontaminate a car prior to paint correction and/or in preparation of a new wax/sealant/coating. It foams brilliantly and is supremely slick. Similar products would include NV Snow+ and Carpro Lift.









Application and Usage Tips -

-Being Solvent based and high alkaline, be careful using this product in the sun or on hot surfaces.

-Add 150ml to a foam cannon (150ml Soap in 850ml Water), along with 60ml to the wash bucket.

-This soap will strip waxes/sealants and take the life out of ceramic/Si02 spray sealants.

-It can also be used to decontaminate and revive an existing Ceramic Coating.

In use, it's cleaning ability is impressive, on par with Snow+ and Lift but with improved slickness and lubricity. I also like the long dwell period, allowing the soap to do it's thing prior to the contact washing.

Obsessed Garage Decontamination Soap is not a product you will use on a regular basis, but when required, it's a great product to have on hand.

The OG Drying Aid replaced P&S Bead Maker in the Obsessed Garage store. While most detailing suppliers retail a range of products and brands for any given task, Matt chooses just the one or maybe two products, the reason being that is he wants the BEST rather than a variety..........quality over quantity.

The Obsessed Garage Drying aid came about after Matt tried a product called Xtreme Solutions Topper and enjoyed the ease of use, slickness and gloss. After questioning who was making the product for Xtreme Solutions, he was told by the company that it was thier own product. He later found out through an existing supplier that it was a catalog product from B&B Blending called "Slipstream", and therefore not an exclusive Xtreme Solutions item.

Like OG Tire Dressing, B&B Blending manufacture and ship the Drying Aid in large quantities to OG, where it is then bottled in 64oz, 1 Gallon and 5 Gallon sizes.



Two things make OG Drying Aid unique compared to Topper, the scent and colouring have been removed from the formulation. In testing, it was noted that the pink colouring was staining bottles and leaving stain residue on lighter coloured paints if not fully removed. The lack of colouring and scent removes those potential problems. If you look at the same product sold under the Adam's brand called "Slick & Slide", the yellow colouring has stained the bottle during storage.



As a product, OG Drying Aid is a silica infused cross-linking polymer sealant that is actually a decently substantial product on its own, able to last up to 2 months as a stand-alone protectant.

-Can be used across all exterior surfaces including paint, glass, trim, door jambs, wheels and engine bay
-Compatible with waxes, sealants and ceramic coatings
-Surfactant-free
-Can be used on a wet or dry surface











Application and Usage Tips -

-Obviously, use this product after the car has been washed, and preferably had the majority of water removed with a blower.

-This product is so very simple to use with no excessive buffing to leave a streak free finish. It's as simple as spray and wipe.

-Use 3 - 4 sprays per panel. Pre-load the towel before starting with a couple of sprays too.

-Suitable towels for using OG Drying Aid include The Rag Company FTW and/or Gauntlet.

I have been using Obsessed Garage Drying since it was released last year. It won me over instantly, owing to its supreme ease of application and gloss levels. I said it earlier, but the product needs no effort to produce streak free results. OG Drying Aid is one of those products that I gravitate towards the most. I like it on the paint for the gloss and slickness, and I like that it adds some added protection to the door jambs, engine bay and wheels. My one complaint is the lack of scent. While a practical decision, it does remove some of theater from using the product.

The price of this product is certainly up there, but not as much as some. It's one of those products that offers a high-level user experience at the same time excelling in practical terms. Highly recommended!

Does it need two towels or is it literally just spray on and wipe off?

For those who don't have a blower to dry the car, I assume a quick wipe over is required first?

How many towels you use will depend on if you choose to a blower. I can get around a car with a single medium Gauntlet, or two of the FTW's.

If you don't use a blower, then you will need two towels, one to "blot" the bulk of the water, followed up by a few sprays of Drying Aid and wiped with the second towel to mop up any remaining water residue and distribute the product.

Obsessed Garage Tire Dressing came about after a follower sent Matt a sample of product that was expected to be to his taste. This product is also made by B&B Blending, sent to OG in totes and bottled/labeled on site.

Key attributes include a water-based formula that requires less preparation than the Carpro Perl this product replaced as a tire dressing. Unlike the Drying Aid, the Tire Dressing is scented and colored. It's also said to last longer than Perl. The key thing with this product is that it delivers a deep, black appearance and can be leveled down to a unform satin finish. If more gloss is required, simply leave it un-buffed or apply a second coat after 15 minutes.

Application and Usage Tips -

-Ideally, deep clean the tyres prior to application with a strong alkaline cleaner, Brake Buster, Wise Guy or ReTyre for example

-Can be applied to wet or dry tyres

-Best used undiluted

-For a satin finish, apply one thin coat and buff down after 15 minutes

-For a gloss finish, apply a slightly thicker coat without a buff down. A second coat can also be applied if required

-The fruity fragrance will spike the air during and after application

-This is a water-based product, meaning it will not sling

-This dressing is best applied with a large boars hair detailing brush. In my case, that is his RaceGlaze XL brush. Brush application can mean a more controlled delivery of product. Keeps your hands clean as well.

- Spray the dressing into the head of the brush, then work it into the sidewall.











What I like about this dressing is it's versatility, as in gloss or satin finish. It also seems to work well with the finicky Michelin PS4S tyres on my Mustang, a tyre that can be very touchy to dressing products, sometimes leading to a blotchy, uneven finish. On the Dunlop's fitted to the XR8 and Jaguar, this stuff applies like butter! The scent that wafts through the garage after application makes me smile too.

This is not a revelatory product like the OG Drying Aid, but it works. And works well!

Glad to hear you taking a look at OG Drying Aid. I have been gushing over it for more than a year now, with some hesitation because it was not a cheap exercise to have it delivered from the USA. Now, it's much easier to buy and therefore recommend.

Compared to Bead Maker, you can use less product per panel when using OG Drying Aid. So, while it costs more, you use less of it.

The process leading to this item is probably the most important of Matt's contributions to the detailing world. Prior to the "stubby" gun, hobbyist detailers would simply accept the poor ergonomics of the OE spec pressure washer guns.

There are many quality MTM and Mosmatic short guns that are far superior to the OE guns that come with all pressure washers. What makes this gun unique to OG is the time and money Matt put into eliminating bulk and in the process making it easier to connect and then use.

The original Mosmatic gun is much like the MTM SGS 28, both featuring inlet swivels to limit hose bind. That swivel on these guns protrudes on the outside of the gun body -

Having used both the SGS 28 and OG Spec Mosmatic, both are high quality sprayers that are only separated by fine details. The trigger action on the MTM is more progressive, while the Mosmatic is more switch like. The Mosmatic quick connects are much higher quality, offering a lovely "snick" when engaged/disengaged. However, it's the reduction in bulk that seals the deal for the Mosmatic.



Notes and Usage Tips -

-Always start the sprayer pointing away from the car, just in case something hasn't seated properly and avoiding potential damage

-Connect the foam cannon to the stubby gun and NOT the wand, this offers far better control and reduces stress on the connections and your body

-Use the short gun for cleaning wheels

-Attach the wand for easier rinsing or washing engine bays

I once hated using my pressure washer (Karcher K2) as it was just so cumbersome to use, especially when cleaning wheels. Transitioning to a more tailored setup, the MTM and later Mosmatic guns were the biggest improvement. The Mosmatic gun is an absolute pleasure to use.

It gets a bit confusing, beyond my usual vacuum, interior protect, leather protect, wash, Meguiars carnuba and shine finish. Do you have a summary? In particular, is there a way to wash without creating the little round circle scratches? And how to get them out?

I have found using spray foam and pressure washer helps limit swirl marks.
I foam your the car and make sure I pressure wash the entire surface off before I move on to a wash. Make sure you hit every part.
I use three buckets and work top to bottom. Make sure all your gear is new and clean. Use light pressure when washing and drying. Use a drying aid.



But a duel action polisher.

Polish Machine Progression

This is a subject that comes up from time to time, so I thought this would be a good thing to have in an easy-to-read step by step progression guide.

The guide can be read a few different ways. Perhaps you are buying your first polisher and are wondering what to get first. Or maybe you already have a machine and are wanting to upgrade to something newer/better. Or you could be looking to add to your collection. Whichever, this list is in order of what your need first and works its way down to the “nice to have” level. Simply pick up where you are at on the list.

At this point, I will point out that I’m sticking to Dual Action / DA / Orbital polish machines for this list. Frankly, rotary is probably best left to the pros or those who have extensive polishing experience. For beginners, a DA machine is very safe and forgiving to use, without compromising the ability to improve or perfect paint.

I will also provide a couple of good options in each category, catering to different budgets. The links provided are for the machine only, but a lot of these are available in kit form as well, often bundled with pads and polishing compounds. I would also consider what you want to power your line-up, as in staying electric or investing in a battery system. For regular and extended use, electric is still the go. For smaller machines and those who don't polish cars for a living, battery power is viable and easier to use.

Note – The inch size of these machines is in reference to backing plate and not the pad size. For example, a 5-inch machine will use a 5.5 or 6.0 inch pad. A 6-inch machine will use a 6.5 or 7.0 inch pad.

1st – 5-inch Dual Action Machine
This is the best balance of size and ease of use. A 6-inch machine will cover a larger area, but if you are just starting out, a 5-inch machine is big enough to be efficient and small enough to get to almost every surface on the car. I actually went down from a 6 to 5-inch machine and love it. If you stop at this step, then all you need to do is finish off the smaller areas by hand.

This is a machine you will buy and have for a long time………… a Buy Once, Cry Once type of deal. The benchmark electric polisher. You can also still get the older ES version for less coin.

Shine Mate EB351-5/15 –
This is a battery powered unit that offers superb ability without having to manage a cord. I have this machine and really enjoy using it, battery life is not a problem when cycling between at least two batteries.

These are good starter electric polishers in a similar style to the Rupes.

2nd – 3-inch Dual Action Machine
A 3-inch polisher is going to be what does most of what’s left after using a larger machine. The smaller pad size allows users to do tighter or smaller areas, say a rear spoiler, boot lid panel or even glass. Again, choice of electric or battery.

3rd – Micro Machine
At this point, you are getting into the luxury level of polishing, as in machines that are just nice to have. The 1 and 2-inch machines are going to cater to the tight spots that would be mostly done by hand. Think door sills, around badges, intricate wheels or even interior trim polishing.



Rupes iBrid Nano Long Neck –
A very highly regarded mini polisher, impressing with it’s versatility and smoothness. This can be used in rotary mode, 3mm orbit D/A or 12mm orbit D/A. The only thing the counts against this machine is the price.

Maxshine Mini Polisher –
This is another take on the Rupes iBrid Nano, just at a much more affordable price point. Can be used in rotary or dual action modes.

Wildcard -
The Flex PXE 80 is an interesting one as it can either operate as a mini polisher or be converted into a 3-inch machine. In some ways, this combines two machines into one. Having said that, it’s compromised, being a touch large for a 1 and 2-inch machine, a touch underdone as a 3-inch. Worth considering though.

4th – 6-inch Dual Action Machine
I would probably only add this to your arsenal if you have cars with larger panels, say the big roof and bonnet on a Falcon sedan, or perhaps some of the larger US style pickup trucks.

5th – This one is very, very specific and a true luxury that is probably unnecessary……….even I’m not at this level. This machine is the Short Neck version of the Rupes iBrid Nano. The Short Neck has some very specific use cases and is able to be more easily used with one hand. Again, unnecessarily extravagant.

The stand is mounted on a wheel base with two locking casters.



The pole is made up of three pieces, allowing for plenty adjustment up or down.

There is also a provision for fitment lower down on the pole. This would allow for the use of two lights to shoot light up and down on your working surface.

Black Friday Sale Delivery Two - Adam's Australia!

I don't order from Adam's all that much as the product is just too expensive for what it is. I do however like their products, and a 25% discount sweetens the deal.



There is one item missing from this order, for some reason a bottle of Mega Foam was left out of the box. To Adam's credit, they responded to my email within 15 minutes and will have the bottle sent out.

One could ask, why did I order three different soaps. My initial response to that would be "you must be new here".

In the case of Ultra Foam, I have not used that before and just wanted to try it, the initial sniff test revealed a heady berry aroma. It's pH neutral and is more concentrated than the other two soaps.

And the blue Car Shampoo, while a touch thick, is just a nice product. It foams well and has good lubrication. It also relatively safe when washing in the sun.

Just discovered another Australian detailing Youtube channel.

One video that caught my eye was titled "How much does Snow Foam actually clean the car?"



In this case, he was using Bowden's Snow Job as the test soap, a product that is good at foaming but useless at actually cleaning. If this test was done with something like NV Snow, Carpro Reset or even the likes of Carpro Lift or NV Snow+, the result of his test would have been very different.

I'm too shy to be in front of a camera. Not to mention the work required to do it properly, I'm time limited as it is without trying to make videos. I also don't want to be making janky videos and be yet another like-and-subscribe Youtuber who is just doing it find fame and fortune.

Not ruling it out completely, but there would have to be some life changes to allow it to happen.
