We're up at $1.96/L for 91 this morning in regional VIC - is this new price taking into the account the excise coming back and there will be no change, or are we back to above $2.10/L in the coming days?

The 'new' price isn't supposed to be until the end of the month and according to the ACCC it should take a week or two to reach servos.

Like I can really see that happening

I'm going to guess we won't see a 20c rise when the excise discount ends. Its already been factored by the recent hike. Consumers will then go "ah...its not too bad, the good servos haven't jacked up the excise price"......

With the price of oil where it is v the dollar we should already be down to $1.50 with the excise already factored in. If it goes above $2 we’ll get what we deserve if the government doesn’t do something and we just cop it.

Employment is pretty good and I’m seeing lots of houses being built in my region, which will be a mix of investors and owner occupied.

You are right about interest rates rising but still relatively low, todays generation have never seen 15%-17% interest rates on houses and we’re a lifetime from that but our prices are right up there beyond many….

most people living on the edge with week to week money/no real savings, the banks will have to factor in what rates they want/need to pass on…if that causes too many defaults, then that becomes a problem for the banks, too much red ink, sometimes better to “work through” whenever possible.

Fuel prices affect a lot of things, more belt tightening but notice that people continue to buy as many new vehicles as can be delivered…..so there’s that..

Correct, I well remember the 17% days, I was one of the ‘lucky’ ones who did not have a mortgage, but money invested instead.Did very well thank you.Things are now getting back to normal rates. But in saying that people in the next six months or so I going to be in a lot of pain, houses coming up for sale.Buyers market? Quite possibly. We have just sold & moved ours one & did ok, bought a brand new 4,3,2 home.It fell over @ auction initially, then the price came down, builder still could not shift it, we made an offer(there was another party,Chinese believe it or not, they made an offer & was refused)we went couple of k over theirs & was accepted. Really lovely place pretty happy with our purchase. The market is definitely correcting. That is the odd thing, vehicle sales are going nuts. Current fuel prices are not stopping people purchasing new vehicles.

Correct, not generalising here but a lot of the Utes out there are either fleet buys or small business leases where there’s significant tax advantage. Those that can’t organise like that would be leasing with a guaranteed buy back figure so controlling cost of ownership. Not sure how many still go the hire purchase route but the days of most buyers thinking they have to completely pay off a car loan are fading, dealers have a vested interest here in a return customer, three or four year lease does that nicely.

We're $1.90/L for 91 here at the moment, I took a photo of the sign on the way past tonight to see if they decide to jump it up the 20c/L from midnight.

Surely it should only apply to the next batch of fuel they purchase.

But these pricks are less ethical than finance industry, real estate agents and used car salespeople combined.

If I see 91 for around $2.10/L tomorrow morning, 1 star Google review, gonna complain to ACCC and Tracy Grimshaw

They were threatening to look into the servo operators this morning on TV.

They won't do $#%^. They never do.

Completely worthless organisation. No wonder the oil companies do whatever they want, they know they are untouchable by the ACCC.

Is it any surprise they are posting record profits atm?

The ACCC is toothless all they do is bluff small business operators into paying penalties for wrong doing. When it comes to big business they get told to P.O,so the just back off and nothing gets done. With pricing it becomes a stand off between, fair trade where it is illegal to dictate selling price and, trying to prevent unfair practice

I filled up the other day at 1.89/lt for 98 before excise cut ends. It was fun while the < $2 lasted. Good thing my payrise kicks in next week but I already know it won't cover my mortgage increase effective November when they will jack up interest rates again in October. I have a fairly small one too so **** knows how these people with huge ones and/or kids and 2 cars get by
