Agreed, I've done this myself.

If they dont behave like the professional they're supposed to be they deserve a big smack on the fingers from management.

Of course if they're an owner driver your only choice is to calla da cops!

Back to the tunnel, i was headed for the monash at about 4:30am so missed my ride in the tunnel, but cam back though the domain at about 11:30am, and could not believe how many people were out for a rubber neck! The traffic was banked up well over the Westgate back near williamstown rd, crawling, because everyone wanted to have a look!!!

Also could not believe the form of some drivers this morning in the domain tunnel. You'd think after such a tragedy people would be a little more aware of whats going on around them, and be a tad more cautious, for a week or two at least! But nope, same old monash, and same old tunnel. Leave a gap any longer than 20m, and the cars all come darting in, was cut off twice coming around power st - alexandra ave - batman ave and had a double in front of me get cut off coming back onto the monash by some woman in a BMW doing her makeup!!

Felt sorry for anyone in a K&S truck today though.
"This is the citylink control room. Attention all K&S drivers, you are banned from the tunnel until further notice" on the radio non stop!

well - ffs- you wouldn't read about it until now
Just yesterday one of our prime movers blew an air line (suzi coil) as he was turning from graham road into westall road crossing 6 lanes of traffic. He got to 1/2 way and it went pfsss. INSTANT brake lock on 45ft. tautliner cutting off 3 lanes of oncoming traffic. Well he did the right thing and dragged the mf trailer across the other 3 and pulled to the left lane with hazards on and rang me. I happened to have a 2nd unloaded prime mover 3 min away and got him to drop his trailer on a service road and prepare to hookup to stranded trailer so 1st semi could go and get his airline fixed back at depot (15 min away). Just as 2nd semi was unhooking his trailer Mr. Plod (Dandenong TMU) comes along and starts writing a ticket for not having triangles out when there were 12 black tyre marks across road and it could have been worse. By the time he was just about finished writing the details the 2nd semi was already under the trailer and Mr Plod used 2nd semi rego number on the ticket with the driver details of the 1st semi. When the driver handed on ticket at end of day Mr Plod has knocked off and wont be back till Friday morning.
I see a court case coming on as we have a signed drivers run sheet from 1st semi saying he wasn't driving that vehicle list on ticket (2nd semi, and never has) which can be quickly turned into a stat. dec.

Geez, heres a surprise. Heard on the radio this morning the Monash is totally blocked inbound and all but 1 lane is blocked outbound. As thats where I was heading I just turned around and went back home, pointless sitting in traffic for 4 hours.

Obviously Citylink is now in the car parking business because they sure as hell cant run a road to save themselves. Feel sorry for all the people who have paid the extortion fee to travel that road only to discover, again, that its screwed.
Every morning, every night, Citylink is completely crap.

Just fart wrong on Citylink and you can bring the entire inner city road network to a complete standstill it seems.

I was actually checking the webcam at 7:00 AM, and noticed no traffic in the Domain Tunnel. Apparently some Sheila fell from the Burnley rail overpass and onto the road, suffering only a broken leg. I heard on the radio that two cars had a minor bingle trying to avoid her.

Cheers,

and yet at 8:21 am, an hour and a half later, its still totally screwed. Citylink need to be hauled over the coals a few times and told either get it right or remove the tolls. Given than no other freeway (note the word free) has anything like the garbage that goes on every single day on the Monash.

Got a good one, was coming back from Bathurst last late yesterday arvo, came through around melbourne on the western ring rd and down the princes fwy towards home. Sitting in the left hand emergency lane near Altona was................ 1 K&S Freighters B-Double pulled over to CHANGE A BLOWN OUT TYRE but in a somewhat safer place, BUT it was dark, and the poofter had all of his lights off, no hazards, no parkers, no nothing, no vest, and no triangles. He was pulled over and was literally only inches inside the emergency lane.

Did these waankers learn nothing from last week??!!

Havent K&S had enough negative publicity of the last week?

I was right on him and past before i could get the number off the truck or i would have called K&S myself. It was right on dark, pouring rain, and traffic was chockers!

I just don't understand why these tunnels are not required to have breakdown lanes? Maybe Keepleft could elaborate but surely it should be law for all new motorways and tunnels to have a breakdown lane?

I'm thinking the brand new Lane Cove tunnel here...

What dont you understand? Its about getting the maximum amount of cars through for the cheapest price.

Obviously the current laws and legislations allow the tunnel operators, designers and builders to construct and operate a tunnel without them, so why would they spend the extra money on breakdown lanes?

Ford and holden could give you a base model car with a lot more air bags, stability control, traction control etc, but they aren't going to do it out of the goodness of their heart and their own wallets. And most buyers have price as the main discerning factor as to which model they buy and how many goodies it comes with. Its no different, at some point when buying a car, price over rides safety, same when you're buying a tunnel!

Not good. I think there is a wider issue here, obviously there is an enourmous number of people who travel to the city for work, sooner or later satalite business centres need to be established in the outer areas to reduce the congestion created by all the business's located in the CBD.

Suburbs such as Box Hill are already fulfilling this role, however at my office at Box Hill, there are a few of us in my immediate work area who come across from suburbs such as Werribee, Taylors Lakes, etc.

I know how you feel Casper. Twice this week I've had to cut my speed back from 100k's to 80k's for over 100 yards EACH TIME!! due to cows on the road.

Jeez, it's hard out here in the bush
