I cant stand the people who overdo their car, drive around with eardrum blowing bass without a shirt on, flat brim cap on at an angle, huge sunnies and an arm out the window. Who the heck do you think you are...only reason id drive without a shirt is because i dont have air con...not to be fooly ***.

Everything else i can live with.

Oh and to go against the grain, i would love a BNS ute, could work on a wagon too.
Maybe ill deck the soob up then visit AFD's etc Do some 4wd dougies all over your clevo's!

Ok im kidding (unless you flame me hehe) but i do like them, dont care what people think

Oh yeah, a fad that hasent been mentioned is primer coloured panels with no intention of painting it over.

I don't know why, but I really really really really can't stand these stickers on cars/utes. IMO nothing screams w@n**r louder than one of these stickers.

Not sure if these have come up...

Louvres for the rear window.

Baby on Board stickers/signs.

"I'm dirty because my owner uses water wisely" stickers.

What about if it is the likes of AC/DC, Metallica, Barnsey? These must must be cranked when they are playing.

I can't crank mine too high, all you would hear is the boot vibrating.

thanx for noticing - it makes the effort all worthwhile, when someone takes the time to notice

i just hope you like hearing eddie van's solos and me playing air guitar on the steering wheel and roof gutters - it is no mean feat getting every note just right with your hands in such an unnatural position

I had a quick look through and didnt see this one I appologise if its been posted before

XB GS/GT bonnet bulges and vents on any thing other than an XB/XC falcon

22" alloys with rubber band tyres on any 4WD / SUV type car

And its not a fad thats catching on thank god but I was out at Harry's on Saturday night and saw a VL comodoor with white wall flappers and white Vanitian blinds

What I do find funny and a little hypocritical is that I am playing arround with my XP wagon at the moment, and I find my self surching high and low for period correct fad items like the front sunvisor, rear windo vanitians, rear spats, old stickers are gold,

If you think about it A VB / XD Falcon with Oakly factory piolt on the back window is the equivelent to what I'm doing so that makes those stupid family stickers the same, Ooooo i feel dirty now

I started driving in 1982 in Bundaberg. A few fad I recall were:
* Yellow painted diffs...if you were in the mood for a chuckle, you painted a smiley face on it too...
* Moroso, Holley Equipped, & Edelbrock stickers...but back then we actually did have Holleys and stuff under the bonnet, unlike the shopping lists on doors of doof-doof mobiles now that have no link to what is actually in the car.
* SAAS steering wheels...small ones...really small ones. I've got one on the wall of my shed which has, believe it or not, been in a total of ten cars I've owned over the years and been recovered three times. It's a deep dish, only 30cm wide. This was before we knew the words of wisdom from Brocky who said that anything less than 14" was a ****. I've now got a 14" early eighties era SAAS in my '82 Celica.
* Birds perch boot spoilers...XY-GT style...on anything. It was, however, sacrilige to put one on a Valiant Charger.
* Ex-ambulances made into panel vans...cheap to buy, fitted with heavy duty suspension, and usually with a fruity V8 under the hood.
* Panel vans of all sorts...Kingswoods and Premiers ruled though, and if you managed to pick up a Valiant van, you were laughing.
* Toranas...hordes of Toranas. usually LJ's, but a lot of LX and LH SLR-5000 copies. It's been said, of A9X Toranas, that "of the 380 A9X Toranas made, 5,800 remain on the road today..."
* Were you a Chrome Aircleaner Guy, or a Lynx Ram-Flo Triangular Foam Element Aircleaner guy? This was important...people fell into two camps (regardless of what car they drove)...you either had a round chrome air cleaner with a paper element, or a triangular chrome mesh air cleaner with a foam element made by Lynx under the name Ram Flo. I've had the same large size triangular Ram Flo cleaner for maybe fifteen years now, on a variety of carburetted cars. It's under the hood of my '82 Celica right now as a matter of fact.
* A radio antenna aerial booster. It was a little metal cylinder about 8cm long, with a hold up the middle, chrome each end, and wound in fine copper wire. It would slip down over your antenna to the bottom, largest section, and supposedly help drag in the radio signal better. I've still got two in a box in my shed, but seeing as how my Celica has the factory power antenna, I cannot unfortunately fit one of these period peices of car accessory twaddle.
* Rear window louvres, black plastic ones by Aunger...these things are still around, but not in the sheer numbers they were around back then, on everything. Probably because, while you could tint your windows at home easily enough, the back window of nearly all cars is a bastard to do yourself, so people didn't bother and got a louvre instead.
* Tinted perspex headlight covers. I put a set on my 1980 Commodore in 1984, and promptly got pulled over by The Plod, as anything but clear were, at the time, were illegal. However, I was able to point out that the then-new VH SS Commodore came from the factory with tinted headlight covers...and also I pointed out that if "covered headlights" were illegal, then the mid-seventies Ford LTD with the pop-up grilles on headlights must have been illegal too. At this point I also learned not to be a smart-**** to the police...
* Number plate plastic surrounds with slogans on them...and if they didn't have a slogan, you painted a white strip along the wider bottom margin and carefully inked one on with a black Nikko pen.
* Lying under your car on a weekend carefully painting your standard sway bars yellow or blue to make people think you had aftermarket sway bars.

At least tramp rods had a purpose...and they were usually seen on vehicles that really needed them.

One "modern fad" I've wondered about is the bonnet scoops in the middle of the bonnet on things like Hyundai's and other small cars...what exactly is it feeding? The airbox on those cars is down towards the front corner of the bonnet somewhere...so why is there a scoop in the center of your bonnet?

Mind you, I saw a newspaper article about the woman behind those annoying "My Family" stickers, and she's now a millionaire...
Best bit was, it isn't even her idea...they saw a similar type of sticker in the USA while they were on holidays a few years ago, and decided to adopt the idea here...

I've seen a few old VN-VP Commodores with modern HSV badges (not the round ones on the bonnet or boot center, the ones that says "HSV" with a small lion/helmet a the end of the logo)...one memorable one was a crappy VN with five on it...one on each front guard, one on the bonnet beside the original round Holden badge, and one on each side of the boot lid. I had a friend at the time (around the year 2000) who had one similar badge stolen off his genuine HSV and had to buy a replacement, which cost $60 at the time. The price of the badges on that crap VN was probably more than the car was worth...

GT stripes on an XR6/XR8.
XR8 bonnet on anything that doesn't have a BOSS motor.
GT wheels on anything that isn't a GT.
Lowering Falcons until they are speed bump challenged and then lower them some more.
Taking the badges off the back of the car, because that way we won't ever know they drive an XT, Futura or XR6 (non Turbo).
Putting a waste gate sound on a car that doesn't need one because its missing a Turbo.

I find this last one particuarly amusing if I pull up to some old Pulsar or something at the lights and they have the full on bonnet scoop and the wastegate noise happening and I'm sitting next to them in a MPS 6 and they are clueless that I have the real thing and don't have either.

Baby on Board were meant as a safety sticker to warn emergency services in the event of a crash.
The purpose was to take it off when you don't have a baby in your car.

Instead of a "Baby On Board" sign, many years ago I looked hard and managed to find a "Child On Board" magnetic sign for the tailpiece of my old Kawasaki 750 triple motorbike...

I can't say I've ever seen stickers of the clan on a car window before...? Perhaps after reading this thread, I'll now see them everywhere.
