I was referring more so to the concrete testing and building materials being crap, like some of non certified stuff they try to sneak past Australian building suppliers.

Estimate the new aircraft carrier with electromagnetic (EM) catapults, ready by 2025, I think they will faster than western estimates.

Any nation would have to have rocks in their heads these days to start a serious war. It will be a ****ing contest but still not great, but, the west has been building for ages so as if they will sit there and do nothing.

Some interesting comments from subscribers......
https://www.theage.com.au/world/asia...30-p56j4p.html This tit for tat is about to get a whole lot uglier. They have openly said they are coming after our human rights record, namely treatment of refugees and the indigenous community. The problem is, China's human rights record has been laid bare for all to see, so really, there is nothing that is going to shock the international community. But we may have a few skeletons we want to keep in the closet. A propaganda war is going to get very very ugly for both sides. IMHO. I also think its a slight over-reaction. PM was probably better to have just said a few words, then deal with it in private. Instead, he has drawn everyone's attention to the tweet. Its just a dumb *** tweet. Twitter hasn't blocked it either. Once again, diplomacy through the media is probably not the best option. I see Russia has joined the chorus. We are playing in the big league now, better get used to it. |

Maybe an over reaction if it was just another nondescript tweet from China, but this was from China's Foreign Ministry spokesman, who is supposed to be a Diplomat!

Really, is it that different to some of the stuff that comes out of Trump and Pompeo? They are playing the same game. Don't fall for it! Scotty needs hire a some tactical specialists to deal with this situation. I don't like the sounds of getting into information warfare with Russia and China. |

Unfortunately I fear people in government here and elsewhere are being sucked into Trumpian politics; “me vs you” type adversarial exchanges with added childish petulance.

There’s nothing really wrong with the wording, it’s the imagery they’ve created and the fact that it wasn’t posted by some lowly Chinese public servant.
Make no mistake, this is a pretty big escalation. |

i've seen the doctored picture of an Australian soldier cutting the child's throat, personally to me, the picture is very offensive. and to have a once great nation china post this from a ccp authority is disrespectful.
i,m not going to say anything else, cause this gets me hot under collar. once again i say t3, whos side are you on, yes there is a side, cause that's the way its all turning out, i,m not going to get sucked into your semantics. |

I think this guy sums it up well... "Herve Lemahieu, director of the power and diplomacy program at the Lowy Institute, said Mr Morrison should not have responded to the "smear" and "low-blow" from a relatively junior Chinese official on Twitter. He said Australia's response was "overly emotive and defensive" and played right into China's hands. "We shouldn't deploy our top asset - head of government - to respond to a propaganda post from some junior level official in the Chinese Foreign Ministry. These guys seek attention and we have given it to them," Mr Lemahieu said. "I would describe it as a smear and a sub-tweet, and I didn't think it merited a response from the Prime Minister. It's beneath the Prime Minister to have to react to that." Mr Lemahieu said he believed the tweet was used as "bait to lure a response", and also to switch the debate from China's "blatant violation of the economic rules-based order" by imposing unfair tariffs on Australia. "That [the tariffs] is the big story, and to me it looks like they are trying to switch the subjects and make Australia look like the villain. We shouldn't have fallen for it," he said." |

While Australia certainly has plenty of human rights skeletons in its closet, it’s a mere fraction of chinas. This is a litmus test of western resolve... how will we fare I wonder. |

The rest of the world sees that yes- Australia is accountable, that is why we had the Brereton INQUIRY- and gave transparent findings. China does not understand the word Inquiry- or should that be Covid 19 Inquiry. And yes- Australia will hold the offending soldiers accountable, following due process and procedurally just trials. Something again China could learn from- our procedurally fair institutions. But this insensitive created image from the highest levels of Chinese government is a serious escalation make no mistake. I also think Australia has to draw I line in the sand- fundamental issues of independence of Australia, things like imposing controls on foreign ownership of strategic purchases in Australia, and banning of foreign owned telco rolling out strategic information networks like 5g and Huawei, (some of Chinas grievances ) and if we sell out now for the quick dollar and to avoid immediate pain, we will be selling out our children and grandchildrens futures in Australia.

Should I be surprised that the Trump supporters have the pitch forks out again?
AusGov needs to seriously stop using bloody Twitter...thats what is embarrassing. We asked for some focus if we were going to publicize the Defense findings, but, the tweet from "China" is below the belt. But you do not start directly attacking someone who is being immature, it only brings you down to their level. Those in the international community with half a brain will see through it, so AusGov needs to follow this path. We put our hand up, we are dealing with the wrongs, AusGov needs to say "shows us your process" to China if they want to start throwing mud. Dont point out all their issues, most are known anyway. Time to take the moral high ground because its just a stupid photoshop done by some smart ****. I dont think you will find many that are OK with China's antics at the moment, but you dont cut your nose off despite your face, keep the eye on the bigger goal and that should be working with other markets and strengthening ties with others. This is were you need your allies to also back you up in a professional matter, throwing fuel on the fire wont help.

Indeed, re the idea of engaging proactively with other countries rather than falling prey to divisive politics so comprehensively it obscures the possibility of other actions.
How much of the suddenly-heavily-surtaxed goods were unladed (either in bulk storage, bonded, or in distribution channels) when this was determined? It’s a serious question and I’ve not seen a complete answer illuminated. It should partially inform the government’s response. |

I have to say I am no fan of ScoMo, but I was impressed about what he said about the Chinese tweet. They are international bullies, some of their human rights breaches are abysmal, as is Russia's
It is well accepted that the best way to fix bullies is to stand up to them and make them accountable, exactly what ScoMo did

Don't criticise multiculturalism. Must NOT criticise multiculturalism. Or immigration. Or diversity. Or any of the marxist's unicorns that have made Australia weak in the eyes of her enemies and a laughing stock...
Still waiting the Mongols to flagellate themselves for Ghengis Khan. Islamic caliphates to repent of their murderous shenanigans. African tribes to dress in sack cloth and ashes for enslaving each other on an industrial scale. Bolshevik communists to shed a tear for the barbaric murders of untold millions. How about that naughty Mao? Surely the Chinese are suffering guilt seizures for the multi millions murdered? No??? Oh dear... |
