One fire was reported as being started by a discarded lit cigarette. Smokers, you have ashtrays, use them. Or use the side mirror on your car to but out the cigarette. Glass won't burn, it's out, then throw it into your ashtray.

It if is definitively proven that arson was not involved in a large amount of the fires i'll eat my hat.

100% fact that at least one fire was arson. It can be pin pointed on any fire where it starts and how. Marysville has been declared offically as a crime scene.

Not quite the point I had intended to make, but nevermind, it's gone now.

Apologies to anyone I had offended.

100% correct.
I've been there done that. Not through a bushfire, but close enough.
I had to deal with a house fire (unlivable for 3 months), a car fire, a reception fire and my fiance arriving from the states to get married all in a 2 week period.

What do you say to your fiance, when the house burns down 1 day before she arrives from the USA, she travels half way around the world, to marry you, when you are in la la land.
It messed me up for a few weeks. With the house fire, I just had my work clothes on my back, lost all my possesions etc etc.

Does anyone know how i can watch tonight's Today Tonight? They had my cousin on there and showed my auntie's house that burnt down in Kinglake, where they nearly didn't make it and i would like to see this video. If anyone knows where i could find it it will be much appreciated.

Thanks, Mark.

Bunnings Warehouse's in Epping and Mill Park are now in a position to receive blankets and non-perishable food.

There is a current shortage of blankets and pet food (who would have thought of that before being asked?).

All major banks are receiving donations to pass on, pass it on through all of your respective workplaces to help those less fortunate than us.

One more thing, send my $950 to the Red Cross, they need it much more than I do.

I would give up my $950 to see the firestarters thrown into the middle of their own creation

Very tragic what's happening, Telstra is donating $500,000 in addition to matching their employee's donation's up to $250,000.

I will donate $100 from my next pay check and Telstra will match it dollar for dollar.

My thoughts are with the people affected by this tragedy, just coming to terms that this was done by arsonist's make's me feel physically sick!

I just hope the death toll doesn't spiral out of control.

Two thumbs up to the CFA guys/girls, you're courage is priceless in these situations.

Anyone know how Yea is going? Or under direct threat?
I have a friend who has bunkered in the town, and one is sitting up on a hill at their home defending it (if needed) 2k's north.

Dam, you've just reminded me, my Mother's aunty is in Healesville.

A radio report at 4:30pm had conflicting stories if there was indeed a fire issue or not, so I didn't take any notice..wth!

Coles to donate this Friday's profits to Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund

Coles will donate this friday's (13 Feb ) profits from its 750 stores nationally to the Government's Bushfire Appeal Fund in partnership with the Red Cross.

Customer's will also be able to donate to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund at all Coles stores . Donations can be made at all Coles checkouts from today.

Coles managing director Ian McLeod said the bushfire tragedy had touched a number of Coles Team members ,some of whome have lost loved ones in the fire , and a number that have lost their homes.

" like everyone in the community , we've been shocked by the devistation these fires have wrought , and we extend our deepest sympathies to those who've suffered loss in this terrible event," Mr McLeod said

Mr McLeod said the the size of this friday's donation would depend on customer support, but could be several million dollars.

"We hope Australians will help us make this Friday's donation as substantial as possible."

Coles has been helping ground level releif agencies, providing essentials such as food, water and toiletries, and will continue to provide additional local support as needed.

Further Information,
Jim Cooper

this was taken from a coles media release today
