A bit of an old thread here but I recently saw the 1980s mob action film Raw Deal on the weekend, starring Arnie.
Arnie is undercover as a mobster as he gives chase to a big black boxy American limo carrying other mobsters trying to escape his pusuit and they go through various settings for two minutes. Another cool car chase was in The Town, a recent film starring and directed by Ben Affleck. He and a bunch of crooks are in a people mover being chased by police through some very tight alleyways like you see in Europe. Was quite impressive seeing an MPV do all that.

Is there really any other answer for first place but "BULLITT"????
Real cars, on real streets, no computer animation, and Steve Macqueen scaring the bejesus out of the film makers by demanding to do a lot of it himself... Ronin was amazing too. The cars used in the movie included an Audi S8, big Puegeot 605's, and a Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9 |

Running On Empty, Classic Aussie movie, Fat 57 Chev Built and Driven by a blind bloke, Phase 3's including a convertable one, and "Fox" Challenger. Bad acting but great cars.

Just updating the list with a film I watched called Drive Angry, starring Nic Cage. It was a pretty silly film with lots of gore and supernatural gun-happy action, but had lots of classic muscle cars in it as well.

Dont know if it has been mentioned, but in the movie 'BMX Bandits' there are some nice car scenes of an old 'fairlane? or ltd? (im unsure) but its definetly a GREAT watch as its being flogged around Sydney...RECOMMENDED!

there was also a made for tV movie ripoff called Wheels of Terror. the car in that was a 71 dodge charger with the front crushed down to look like a frowny face. *bullitt mustang needed substantial mods to make it go fast enough to do the scenes. the charger didn't need any. *French connection used undercranking (speeding up the film) to make it look more hectic and dangerous. *vanishing point they weren't allowed to crash the new challenger, so they replaced it with a 67 camaro for the finale.

Race with the devil
Not a car chase, but a mobile home(winnebago) vs cars, F series trucks, tow trucks etc. Quite fast paced for a 70s film. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073600/ Initial D - live action film. I'm not a drift fan and there are no muscle cars in this film but I still enjoy it each time I watch it. It is a good story and without the Hollywood bull. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0439630/ Short Time. Crazy car chase in this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100604/ Check out this link for 10 of the best chases, ones that have been mentioned already: http://jalopnik.com/397302/top-ten-b...s-with-a-twist |

A few tragic car chase movies that aren't widely known: Corvette summer with a very young Mark Hamil Eat my dust with Ron Howard. Grand theft auto also staring Ron Howard. Fast track- no limits. Cheesy euro film but ok. Le mans- steve mcqeen but more car racing than anything Days of Thunder- the chase/race/demolition derby in rent-a-cars!! Funny as In The Red. Roadracers. Convoy. Just a few. Love all the other movies mentioned and own most of them. I'm trying to build up a large collection of car chase/ race movies for myself so this has been helpful.

Bullit Mustang had a 390 vs the Chargers 440, however the 390 wasn't that modified, heads were machined and carb/ignition tinkered with. Both cars had their suspensions modified, however the Mustang wasn't as strong as the Chargers so suffered on the jumps more iirc. |

I watched an obscure Charles Bronson thriller flick from 1970 called Cold Sweat.
It has a long sequence in the second half of the film involving an Opel Commodore GS/E being driven by Bronson as he tries to get a doctor to an injured man up in the mountains, while being chased by cops. The car is a 2-door coupe that looks like an Euro-style classic Charger and goes through a lot of abuse. Wikipedia says the chase went for 40 minutes.

Yes, I have seen Chain Reaction. The opening premise is a bit silly from memory, but lots of Aussie car action does follow.
I recently watched another Charles Bronson film called Mr. Majestyk, where he's a melon farmer who gets caught up with organised crime. It has lots of car action in this film, with a Ford F series pickup being really abused in the country outback. It was so severe that Ford used the footage to advertise their pickups in the 1970s and made a point that the vehicle in the footage was near-stock. Very impressive!

One car chase you may not have seen is 'Master Touch' staring Kirk Douglas. a 58 Plymouth being chased by a Vauxhall (actually an Opel Admiral) with lots of panel damage.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069446/ this video is the car chase (saves watching the rest of the movie) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hzlnhz4V3Y8
