I have a work Colleague with the small MG SUV and I've noticed the poor quality audio on his hands free due to the poor quality Mic used. a low cost item in a car build but they still have to skimp on something that could be a deal breaker these days.

However its only the recent Hilux that has made an improvement on mic quality too

From none before 2010 to nearly 10% of the new car market in 2022.

So many brands it is hard to keep track. These are what I have seen to date:

MG
Haval
BYD
Great Wall Motors
SAIC Motors
LDV
Chery

Plus the Chinese made Tesla

These Chinese brands don’t have a “real” Dealer and spare parts base here, they are sold through a second party who often have a problem supporting spare parts, warranty issues, and crash repairs.

Avoid.

In town here the Ford Dealer also sells SsangYong.

The Toyota dealer sells Haval

But I've forgotten which one the Holden dealer has.

Holden Wagga Wagga was located at 32 Dobney Avenue. This is now a Jeep dealer.

They have to multi franchise to stay ‘alive’, you just cannot rely solely on one brand anymore.

Add to that Geely, are they still going ? A few commercial vehicles as well, like: Foton, CRRC, JMC, Joylong, SEA, Skywell, Tank, ZX Auto etc.

If you count "Chinese made" there are several more including Volvo, Polestar & some VWs etc.

Yeah, all major brand dealers here have sold multiple brand cars for a lot longer than their city counterparts.

As long as China doesn't invade Taiwan or start WW3, a Chinese branded vehicle will be the No1 seller in Australia's in 5-10 years time, pushing Toyota aside.

It will be interesting to see if they go the way of Jeep once people start realizing how poorly made they are, and don't last. Or will people be willing to look the other way because they are cheap?

I saw a guy on facebook the other day, who reckons he see's a lot of people buying the cheap chinese cars and posting glowing reports when they pick them up, but notices that within 6-12 months a lot of them then post of pictures of their new car that has replaced their chinese built one, usually japanese or korean. He reckons it can't be just a coincidence that the owners don't hang onto them for too long. The sheer number of them for sale on carsales tends to back this up.

Our neighbour seems to be happy with their Haval H2. Been near on 4 years and it seems to be fine, used everyday. They do the "servicing" themselves.

Check out a FB page called **** cars of Australia.
Members keep tabs on listings of <12 month old Chinese cars and the owners reasons for selling so soon. Good for a laugh.

I have seen that.

One guy posted up pics of an LDV ute with rusted out lower doors, which was frightening for a vehicle only a few years old.

My brother had all the 4 doors on his 2 year old Everest replaced as a result of rust in the door seams, so not just a Chinese brand with this issue.

This was rusted right through the bottoms of the doors and was completely visible on the outside. Not just rust appearing in seams.

though does it matter looking ahead re longivity/quality......
Cars are nothing like they once were as we all know no diff to tools/white goods etcetc.
Even the solid euros have cheapenned their product due to consumer pricing demands having to compete and covering more sectors int he volume ends where they never did before.
Made in Germany has gone left right centre in reducing costs no diff to them all so the market is coming to China regardless.
27M people here, bulk of sales is sub 100k, right in their ball game.
Throw away society.

That's an interesting point, and probably the subject of a different thread altogether, but are car manufacturers (and other goods as well) making their product with a shorter lifespan because of cost cutting or because of the turnover rate of their consumers? Conversely, have consumers changed their expectations of product life because of the manufacturing process or do they just prefer to turn things over more frequently. Which is the actual driver (no pun intended)?

As an example, what's the average useful life for a mobile phone these days? And what about a phone from 20 years ago? 40 years ago (not withstanding the difference in capabilities).

IMHO, it's consumerism that is driving this process.

AH Bingo, a similar question or more so me not appecting the reported QC issues of the modern day Mustang.

Agreed Boss, its 2023, ok maybe the product doesn't last as it once did back in the day BUT at least bring it out to market spot on to spec, no mis alignments etcetc yet one bloke quoted thats the Norm of a Pony forever and a day, correcting error.
I answer if I'm paying sub $100k my pride and joy should be damn spot on ?! if the cheap cars under $50k can why can't my $90K for eg Mustang.
