Hi Roddy, yep similar reaction from me after watching it years ago. On The Beach is a eye opener & wake up call from the cold war era, still valid today imo.

G'day Maka and all...I looked up the Telemovie version set in modern day .
It was Armande Assante (not Stacy Keach) as the star...It was made in 2000..so 17 years ago...Just as poignant...just as relevant as 41 years earlier.. Jaquie Lambie wants us to open up our uranium mines for nuclear power stations here too...Not too sure about that , there'd have to be a ton of fail safes for me to realistically consider that ..Power generation is a tough topic to get your head around and decide what way to go .. Only time it won't be relevant is if indeed On The Beach scenario actually does happen..least of your worries will be power to your house........ Then again way past the war, Australia's car industry will regenerate...still for a tiny market but Mad Max Cars post apocolypse might get going.....picturing a couple of re painted Silohette XR8 Sprints with the proper supercharger and the Night Rider in a Black HSV 427 R8 in the cross hairs.. Cheers Rod.. |
