That Amplify diesel is the biggest joke. 2c difference between that and regular diesel but no explanation as to why its better (or dearer)
Some shifty Ampol servo's have all of their diesel pumps with it leaving one "high flow" truck pump with regular diesel outback or behind parked hire trailers.

A bit like how E10 has 5% less energy but is only 2 cpl than 91 ULP.
At $1.60/l, it needs to be 8 cpl less to be break even.

I've got access to it now, I'll run it in the ute and see what the difference is, does 11.5-12L/100km on 98.

Yeah and it's water soluble too ,so a good way to flush out your fuel tank at the expense of your injectors ......yeah nah

Exactly. Running it on an old dunger is a recipe for problems, because it just strips out all the gunk in your fuel system and those tiny little orifices in your injectors are a perfect place for it to end up. If it doesn’t block the fuel filter first.

I’ve heard a number of cases of people not even making it past the first couple of tank fills before the problems start. It’s not something you should try on an older vehicle with plenty of km under it’s belt. Or at least do it after you fit a new fuel filter, and change it again after the first couple of tank fills.

I've got a lot of contamination in the fuel tank of my ute, this is what the OEM fuel pump and its sock came out like - its either dirt/mud/rust, it has a steel fuel tank in it:





I put a Walbro GSS342 in it as the replacement cause I couldn't get my hands on the OEM replacement anymore

But YOLO I'm gonna put E10 in it anyway, lets see how much damage it does to the new pump and the rest of the fuel system - it'll be a good test, for science

Everything going well the sock on the pump and the fuel filter will catch most of the crap, we'll see how much makes it through up stream to the injectors.

Getting toward the end of this tank of 98, I'll run it down as much as possible and give it a nice 70L of E10.

Then let the games begin, E10 is cheaper at the pump (by 2 cents) but it's around $175 for a new Walbro GSS342 and an hour of my time to swap it out

Working on the prices from T3rminator it's only going to save $16.80 per tank on the price of fuel alone, theoretically we're going to use more of it to go the same distance and we're going to potentially do damage to the fuel system.

Assuming I get the same mileage I'd need to do 11 tanks before I paid for a fuel pump excluding the filter in the 'savings'.

Looks like rust on the sock. If it’s steel tank it most likely is.

Alright, it got a tank of E10 this morning - it took 52L so it still had 1/4 of a tank of 98 in it, so it might take a couple fills before we start getting into the meat and potatoes of E10 shennanigans.

E10 - $1.98/L
98 - $2.21/L

$.23/L cheaper

We did 11.7L/100km on 98,

We've got less energy density with our ethanol content, jpd80 figures of 5%, so that puts us up to around 12.3L/100km - lets see how we go.

I found using E10 for that bit of extra oomph for power when having some fun but still lousy with economy compared to 95 or 98, I don't bother with it these days.

more remote --> cheaper fuel?!

Would there be any advantage in cleaning out the fuel tank first?

iirc I once read a story on WW2 allied aircraft in North Africa surprising their enemies by carrying out an attack well beyond their theoretical range, and the reason for this was they water-injected their engines

I've got water methanol injection on my Focus - it works well on modified diesel stuff.

This is the kit my car has:

I had an undersized nozzle, was worth 7kw at the fronts with just a little bit of spray even though the car already has a large FMIC on it with a side benefit of keeping the intake manifold nice and clean from carbon build up.

That's really cool!

Our Terry ended up dying within 40km of it's destination in the West (see thread in SX-SY) and I'm currently wondering what to do. (Fried computer? Transmission?) I'm considering resurrecting it to go E85 on the Barra, whatever that takes. She's done 330,000km under our ownership, and been so loyal so I'm thinking of putting her out to literal greener pastures.

In the meantime, does the NA Barra, or the turbo take to E85 better?

Water injection in carburetors was a bit of a trend in the 70's, the idea being it increased fuel consumption and keep your cylinder heads cleaner, I had one on one of my cars, and I thought it was full of crock s**t.
Honestly I knew a few people that had these kits but myself and them never seen any real gains from this.

Reduces EGTs and increases power, especially on diesel stuff, side bonus to it is less DPF regeneration cycles as well if you use it on a car with a DPF. Showed up 7KW at the wheels on my TDCI Focus with it present compared to it not there and thats with an undersized nozzle.

I think on unleaded stuff its used as knock control but with fuels like E85 its not really required, it would do **** all with the benefits you have already with E85.

Diesel at that price in Nz is 30 c a litre lower in Nz than Aus.
That proves that the Aus price is a scam a price gouging exercise and a major driver of inflation.

I was on a bus in Dunedin in 2011 and remarked to the oldies that diesel is so cheap in NZ when the driver piped up and spoke about the RUC that you get stiffed on rego costs.

Mind you got a 300g porterhouse and a beer for $19 NZD which was good going, you're doing good if you get that for sub $50 these days in Melbourne.

Turbo barras absolutely love e85. I can’t say i’ve heard of anyone really bothering with it on an NA. I think i remember a speedway car running E85 but i also think it was a built engine with LPi 12 to 1 compression pistons.
