I know in Melbourne that local councils do have a bylaw prohibiting the keeping of roosters in suburban locations. A quick call to your local council's ranger with an address will find the rooster dispatched to poultry heaven (?) in a matter of days.

My dear old mum was nailed for this by Moorabbin City council a few years back. She was mortified LOL.

Rooster on the floor knocked out, dads hands full of tail feathers and me as white as a ghost...

Like the same people who say to try and 'catch' the cute fluffy possum running around their roof cavity... yeah right!
Ohhhh roosters, im sure everyone has a rooster story but i will share mine.

We always had at least one rooster on our farm (big property) as mum for some reason liked the way they looked after the hens.

We used to get a new one every 9 month or so and eat the old one for dinner. Then came a big Rohde Island Red my sister called Nelson. He absolutely hated me as i used to stir him up when he was young. He ended up growing over my knee height (i was 12) and would attack me any chance he could get.

9 months came and past but dad wouldn't chop his head off as he became my sisters pet. He would never attack my sister or mum but he would hear me coming down the stairs and run for me from the garden. he would attack me anytime i was in the yard, i was petrified of him. I still have scars on the back of my legs where he got me with his spurs before mum cut them off.

Anyway i always told mum that one day i would kill him if he kept attacking me. Me and my mates had just finished a cricket game and i had a cricket wicket in my hand. I could hear a whoosh behind me so i turned around quickly knowing it was Nelson and wacked him straight across the head when he was mid flight. His neck snapped sideways and he fell to the ground, dead.

Unfortunately for me my sister was only a few metres away and saw everything. "MUM JAKE KILLED NELSON, MUUUUUUUMMM." followed by immediate sobbing and more, "YOU KILLED NELSON."

Mum came out and i copped it, got a big hiding for killing my sisters "favourite pet". It was totally worth it though, man i hate roosters

I didn't know that, so thanks for the suggestion, I might just do that.
I don't mind it going off at sunrise, but all hours of the night is ridiculous.

My neighbour kindly offered a suggestion to fix the issue, and received profane abuse for it. Had they at least listened & maybe tried to do something, I wouldn't worry, but their attitude deserves a visit from the ranger (if council confirms it's not OK to have them in suburbia).

Looking forward to a peaceful night.

Apparently 3 neighbours all dobbed them in first thing today, and the ranger didn't even issue a warning - he simply turned up just before lunch with a cage to take the rooster on the spot. The old bloke across the road reckoned it took them 15 minutes of Benny Hill style antics to catch him!

The girl on the phone at council who manages all the call outs also told my neighbour (one of the 3 complainants) that they had a few complaints last week, but couldn't locate the rooster. Obviously didn't look real hard.... you can walk through the reserve (like I did yesterday) & see the hen-house with the rooster perched outside, or not too far away from it!

I hate people who run red lights, hit your vehicle and then attempt to flee the scene.

Luckily a witness started to follow them. My vehicle was also drive-able so I also followed. We caught them at the next set of lights and told them to pull over.

I hate the morons who can't sit in traffic for more that 3 seconds without needing to look at their facebook newsfeed. How many times do people have to be honked at a green light, and you see them quickly put the phone in the console & drive off, leaving the rest of the line to stop at the orange light, and wait another light cycle.

Sitting stationary on the M7 this morning, and at one point, the one in front, the one behind, and the one beside - all clearly visible on their phones. And there were many others who I pulled up beside in the stop-start crawl doing the same. It's so easy to spot the scrolling newsfeed.... It was almost like I was one of the few not on my phone! More than 50% of people around me for a 1/2 hour period, on a ~5km stretch of road, were scrolling on their phone.

Some have the phone in their lap, and look up & down all the time (very obvious), and some are even as blatant as to have it in a holder up high enough to sit above the RH air vent, so they can rest their arm along the door & scroll the feed in plain view of other cars.

At one point the traffic ahead had moved up more than 100m before I ended up honking the 2 clowns in front to get off their phones & pay attention.

These antics are probably making these traffic jams twice as bad as they need to be.

People, even on this forum say looking at your phone at the lights or in a traffic jam is ok because it won't injure anyone.

We are constantly, through various forms, told to "shop locally" and support local or small businesses. You will often pay a bit more but this is countered with a more personalised and helpful level of service and or a higher quality of service/product.

Im all for that BUT......

If a local or small business stuffs up what makes them different to the big chain stores or online retailing, ie the customer service, then don't bleat on about how tuff it is and complain the big guys taking their business. Treat customers like dirt or supply a substandard product then why should the customer pay a premium for that. There is a reason online and big box stores have become what they have.

I'm not unreasonable with customer service expectations, misunderstandings and mistakes happen all the time, but its how these are dealt with and how the customer is treated from the moment they enter the door that is absolutely crucial for a small business to flourish.

After a frankly distasteful, disrespectful and shameful experience this week by a local company in which I have been made to feel like a criminal, my business is going elsewhere, to a multinational.

Sorry for the rant but I just needed get it out of my mind and vent. By all means support your locals and reward great service, but don't put up with rubbish just to do the "right thing"

I had a similar experience a few months back with a solar electricity inverter that was still under the 5 year waranty. When it failed, just before the waranty ran out! the only way we noticed was from the power bills Mum and Dad were getting, (parents solar set up). The supplier/installer did a "maintenance check" and said the inverter was buggered and you need a new one, $1500 was their quote. I took the inverter off the wall and sent it to the manufacturer who came back with, "nothing wrong with inverter".!
After going back to the local company that did the "maintenance check" and venting, the Manager finally came back with a "i'll get it sorted"!.
Should of done a proper check in the first place and save me some stress, let alone the stress it put on my elderly parents.
Goes without saying, won't be using that mob again! Had fun putting my case forward, and having a win with the repair on the panels.

Worse still. My 'pinky' toes have a split nail (so, line down the length of the nail, 3/4 inside, 1/4 outside).

The 1/4 outside bit just loves catching threads and ripping back drawing blood.... happens a few times a month.

I stopped to fuel up at BP this morning. After I filled up and was checking the tyres, some dropkick strolled over to offer me $600 for my ute. He told me "nobody wants XFs any more maaaate".

"Well, if nobody wants it... why are you approaching me at the servo and trying to buy it?"

He didn't seem to have a reply that I can post here within site T&C's so instead he proceeded to get back in his very-used VS Commy and single-peg it out the servo's driveway...

I never knew my XG was an XF either.

I bought a boat cover that said it was water resistant. The stupid thing is water proof. Why is this annoying? Not long after I bought it, with all the fixing ropes reasonably tight, after a down pour, I had a dry boat with a couple of hundred litres of water in the cover in the boat. Dumped it all and it drained out into the bilge. Came up with the solution, a rope from the anchor well cleat to the ski hook to create a high point. Worked great untill the weather we copped 2 weeks ago. Now there are 2 stretched sections behind the front seats either side of my rope that gather water. First world problems...

Done a few dozen Bunnings BBQ's in my time. A parent asked if they could pass on my details to a community group they are linked to so I can offer them some advice as they had one booked yesterday.

No problem. Sent them the generic email of stuff to bring, stuff to do, things to be wary of and the rest.

Really detailed info - an 'Idiots guide' if you will.

Any person with any common sense would read it, know what to do and hit the ground running. I also offered to help them set up.... as I lived close by etc.

Well, lets see. First they turn up 50min later than they told me - I could have slept in. And it was me that called them to ask where they are! You would think if you were late it's your job to call to explain. Course not.

Then, 1 guy turns up. We start unloading. I start to think, ummm where is the rest of the people and the rest of the stuff?..

Yep, 'On its way'... of course. So, not only are you now very late, but the helpers are coming in dribs and drabs......

Most of the stuff in my email was totally ignored.... why did they ask for help?? Do people see a long, detailed email and just skim over it??

No bloody common sense either. A single 40L esky for their drinks?? 2L / 4L bulk sauces but no squeezy bottles?? No ice?? No trays for bulk orders?? Oil in one of those tins that can't be poured easily, 7kg of onions when you need 15kg???

Then they had a 'chef' cooking.... he insisted that between each tray the hotplate needed to be scraped down and cleaned with water. The sausage oil was not good for the onions and a clean hotplate will reduce the 'burnt' smell the sausages would have... I said that you can be a little more relaxed at a Bunnings BBQ but he then replied that he needs a bucket to wash down his spatula and tongs between sausage trays....

Bread delivery turns up - I made it clear that he wants payment in cash on the spot. (used my bread supplier to help them out).

They all look at each other, fumbling and trying to see who will be paying. Some guy says something about EFTPOS or paying by card.... bread guy is waiting like a stooge for his money.

After 30 seconds of silence I open the float and pay the guy myself with every note they had and about $20 in coins.... Someone winged that 'I cleared out their entire float!' I didn't care.

Oh, the float??? $5 in 5c coins, $10 in 10c / 20c coins and $10 in 50c coins. Why all the small denominations when the items you sell are either, $1.50 or $2.50???

Told them to return the empty bread trays to the baker - simple instructions 'leave them outside his shopfront on the footpath'. Guy looks at me and questions the fact that they will be on the footpath all night. (yep - one of 'those people').. Explained that's how they want it and that's how I have always done it with no issues. I had a feeling he wasn't happy with that - I guess if they went missing he was worried he would have to pay for them.

So, he left them at Bunnings. How did I know? Because I drove past my baker late in the evening going home and they weren't there. I called the person and asked what happened to the trays. 'Oh yeah, they didn't fit in the cars so we thought it was best to leave them there, don't worry, the manager said they will look after them'....

Yes, but that's not what I asked you to do, and why am I calling you for you to tell me this info anyway?? And 9 bread trays couldn't fit in 5 cars?? Oh please.

I had to go and collect them this morning and return them myself. 7 trays were waiting, where were the other 2?? Didn't even bother calling to ask.

And all clearly spelled out in my email - that I bet wasn't even read.

Why do I bloody bother sometimes??????
