One of my high school friends had a red manual Skyline Silhouette GTS. That engine was so smooth and vastly more refined than the 4.0 SOHC in my AU III Fairmont.

I like you (DFB FGXR6), had a mad obsession with these Skyline red meanies. I used to have lunch outside the factory I worked at back in 1992, and in the car park next to where I worked was a Red R31 GTS, and I just wanted one.. Looked fast even while sitting still.

My ex girlfriends sister had the top of the range Skyline, and I had the pleasure of being a passenger in it for about half an hour, both in the Adelaide hills and freeway type environments. I was sold. Smooth as 3.0L engine, 4 speed auto, full of tech for the time, self locking doors on drive away, 6 headlights, great trim etc.

Truly a nice thing indeed. Being new also helped!!!

Cheers,

One Man.

I remember on a trip to Melbourne in 2001 or 2002 with the Tickford club we were out one evening and seemed to stumble apon an R31 cruise. I was next to one of the Silhouette GTS at the lights, first set he got the jump and it was close because I didn't realise he wanted a run. Second set of lights I was more on the ball and he wasn't so lucky. Had a good two lengths on him before speeds got too silly.
I was in my ED XR6.

I remember hiring one when I went to Bathurst in the early 90's, absolutely thrashed it from Sydney airport out to Bathurst to get our rooms at the college next to the track, then back to Gosford for a meal at the leagues club to meet some friends using the old Melway to navigate, slept in the car park first night , great driving car back then.

Two red Fairmont Ghia's this morning.

First, a Sparkling Burgundy AU II Fairmont Ghia with the Tickford body kit and wheels that was in need of a good paint correction. Second, a Seduce BF MK II Fairmont Ghia in beautiful condition.

They sure did. We had them here in Queensland, not without problems. I noticed a flat rear, just before leaving the station. Responded in another vehicle. On return, no worries, we'll change that. Ahhh no go. The rear bumpers were replaced by one with a step built in. In manufacture and fit up, there was no hole, to insert the crank, enabling you to wind down, and up, the spare wheel. Mr. Fleet Manager, can you send the mechanic for a drive in the country? Tell him to bring a hole saw.

Spotted in recent days...

Volvo 440 sedan in it's original white paint in Ascot Vale,
Volvo 740 sedan original white with P plates, could do with some tlc.
Nissan/Datsun Bluebird TRX with flared wheel guards and a possible old respray near Maribyrnong,
VW Superbug possibly reconditioned, and it's bigger brother, a Combi campervan reconditioned.

Not so much "any more" as there were never many of them around to begin with, but I saw a FGX XR6 turbo ute in Emperor over the weekend. Looked to be in as new condition. Really caught my eye (mostly saw it from the rear) as I didn't initially recognise the colour! Looked completely different on the rear of the ute compared to my XR8.

Would love to get my hands on one of them, but I'm not prepared to pay the asking price for one.

Hi guys,
I havent been here in what seems ages due to working nights, then mornings etc.
In the past few days at Marulan which is 30ks or so from Goulburn i have seen a Magna Station Wagon, and a Holden Gemini.

i would have thought both these cars would have died by now but i was wrong.

Yes, I know the cars you mean, from when I lived in Marulan. I live in Wingello now, and sadly, don't see any cars out of the ordinary here

Toyota fortuna today. No idea why there arent many on the road. They're more or less a hi lux wagon and hi luxs are everywhere. Everests, pffft, they're everywhere and they are more or less a ranger wagon. I see atleast 900 hi luxs, and 100 79 series cruisers to 1 fortuna.

Every day I have to drive past a British specialist workshop. Always have a look as I go past to see what parked out front. Yesterday was a new one I haven’t seen there before.
Reliant Scimitar like this in excellent condition.

Probably considered ugly when new, but very unique now.

Another one I have seen there a few times now.
Vacel Vega

Also in excellent condition.

I have wondered the same about the Fortuner, a rare failure for Toyota. Of course, the Fortuner is in no way a benchmark in its class, but when has that ever stopped Toyota selling overpriced, sub-par vehicles to the sheeple?

The only other flop from Toyota over the last 25 years would be the severely underdone Avalon from the early 2000's. That was more of a "its FWD, no V8" sort of thing, the Fortuner by and large ticks the same boxes that the MUX/Pajero Sport/Everest does.
