Starting to get the hang of the induction cook top now. Only took a few months :P I take it back saying induction was not great for cooking steak induction....its actually better when you understand how the induction system works, and it holds the heat better too for searing.

Nup not here. Yeah depends where you live. ACT can still benefits from NE sea breezes in Summer and therefore humidity but once you head down over Conroy's Gap way it becomes a very dry heat in hotter months.

Good example of differences being further north along the NSW coast like Coffs Harbour its unusual to find AC cooled cafe's or swamp coolers.

Horses for courses.

When I start seeing all the restaurants and cafe's using them I'll believe it.
Can't beat gas for cooking.

Agree. Induction is not suitable for everything, but gas can be. If you want that smokey flavour then you need gas and fire.

Signed up at Costco couple of months ago, never thought it would add up to much but now,
each time I fill up with 40 to 50 litres of petrol it’s like about $15 saving, so the card is already
paying for itself…unbelievable

Not sure if it works all that well for diesel though……

Yes, government policies are real smart for zero carbon target here in Australia, we get screwed over while other countries will enjoy cheap imports of gas and coal, courtesy from of us.

Power generators allowing contracts to expire without negotiating contracts ahead of time now pay full spot price of coal and gas. If that not incompetence, then it’s gotta certain employees getting money under the table for agreeing to such brutal price increases.

We've just got one to replace dead electric element type. Had bought a cheap little single induction plug in unit through covid when family members isolated, so learned how to use. They're pretty good if you have no pacemaker. It seems the copper wiring needs a slight upgrade, bigger, at ours to fit the new whole cooktop, but overall you use less energy - maybe as it cooks quicker??

totally, followed one of the big companies as it got slammed this way last year, unimaginable they were caught out on their hedges. Certain those responsible will fail upward.

These days its probably not so much a drama with mandatory energy efficiency regulations about new homes but there's a lot of ****ty existing houses people are living in thats for sure - it passes the buck to the end consumer.

Its more efficient method of cooking as all the energy goes into the pan, instead of using a flame which is heating up the air around the pan and some of it going into the pan/pot et al.

What I like about it is you get way more control of how much heat is going into something, works wicked for long cooks, boiling large volumes of water or something like searing a steak in a pan.

Anyway whats everyone paying for fuel in their neck of the woods?

Induction cooking is like an EV with thermal runaway?
I think there’s a car carrier off the Netherlands doing a good impression of a massive barbeque

Basically we're in 8.5M of redgum at the moment and that's $1700, I'd say it's crossed the point where it's more efficient to heat the house with multiple split systems even without rectifying the problems with the house.

Yeah it's a total waste of time, effort and money in that situation. If you can do what's required yourself (or at least as much as possible) you will be pleasantly surprised.

Still can't believe anyone could use 8.5 cubic metres of wood already this winter.

$1.75 for super & $1.75 for diesel, Tarneit & Laverton area, has been cheap for ages down this way as some independents are going nuts being competitive with each other.
No complaints from me as I've been saving heaps compared to other parts of Melbourne.

Cheers

I find a lot of country prices are good compared to Melbourne, the prices I just quoted in my last post are the highest atm, I reckon the prices in my area will drop lot further in the next week or so, back down to the usual $1.50 to $1.60 mark for petrol.

PS: I'm only really quoting for Melb surbia prices.

Back onto petrol, saw in the 1.60s earlier in the week in Gtropolis, at the same time saw 1.74 and just a short drive away 2.20s, on the same day!

We are running two vehicles, but only fill up at a minimum once a month. Both retired.Believe it or not the Honda is far cheaper to run than the Fiesta. So I don’t stress to much over fuel prices. I did manage to top the Honda up today for $2.15.9.(98)

I guess it's as the light crude futures are getting perky after being clubbed since the Fed started raising rates.

There was also something very interesting about Ukraine using long range drone boats (who doesn't love remote control boats?) to shut down the Black Sea to Russian exports, that's apparently about 3mil barrels a day

My local servo is always 5-10c/L more expensive than the one in the next town up the road, but we're closer to Melbourne so mostly people won't go out their way to go to the servo in the next town as they don't know the price as we have no fuel apps in VIC aside from petrolspy or what ever it is which isn't government regulated.

So I been taking photos of both price boards in both towns when I fill up, and chucking them up in the community facebook group - diesel is 17c/L cheaper at the next town and 91 about 6 cents cheaper as of yesterday.

So you can see current fuel prices on facebook, before making the trip 7km to the next town for fuel

I've been running a social media campaign against our local servo, they're always way more expensive than everyone else, its probably because of two reasons:

A) We're closer to Melbourne, the larger town and we mostly all work in Melbourne
B) They're greedy ****ing pricks.

Every time I go fill up, I take photos of all the price boards, one in my town, one in the next town up and now a third option which only sells diesel - that no one was even aware of until someone mentioned it.

Then I make a post on our local community group, so people are aware of the prices without needing to drive to the next town to have a look, or use unregulated bull**** like 'petrolspy'.

Within 10 mins of my post going up someone who works at the local servo saw my post, told management and then tried to undermine me by dropping the price and commenting on my thread on our community group, but they've just gone from 29c/L to 14c/L more expensive than the next town for 91.

We've had a small win, its still not as cheap but the price went down significantly, if they're going to be blatantly greedy then as a community we'll try starve them of business by raising awareness of other options available locally.
