To its credit, AU was faster than EL by use of weight reduction rather than power increases, which did no harm for fuel consumption. Since the technology is there, I don't know why they do it any other way. BA should have still had 157 kW but lots of aluminium panels.

I miss my ED.
XR8, 5 Speed, Polynesian Green, Factory option 16s, Lowered, Tint, Big bore exhaust, twice winner of Best ED at Tickford / XR club shows. Man I loved that car. I didn't regret buying an AUII XR8 but I always wished I didn't have to sell the ED to do it. Introducing the XRs signature twin headlight look makes it pretty important IMO.

EF because it looks so sexy at the front with no grille and that flat bonnet.
The el's grille wrecks the look of the front I reckon. (EG, ELGT, would've booked better with no grille) If I had an el I would put an ef bonnet and ditch that grille. (or go fairmont style) Sorry el fellas, just my opinion. |

I have an EA (which i should have voted for if it was for patriotism :P ) but voted for EL, quite simply it's the last step in the E series progression, and the best overall package and good looks to boot too.
Not to mention the toughness the GT and the XR's had, hard to say which XR is better EF or EL, both are great IMO. Then theres the bling-ness of the Fairmont Ghia's and Fairlanes... can't go past em! |

EA's were the revolution started, EL's where the story finished and it finished on a high with the lush GT, but where is the real E-Series war? Obviously the EB vs ED crowd.
EB owners say the ED is a waste of model designation and their rounded grill makes them look cross eyed. ED owners tap the door and quietly allude to increased side impact protection. What does the 1993 September issue of Motor say about the ED? The introduction of such saucy colours such as: Colbalt Blue, Polynesian Green, Reef Green and Magenta. The cutting of the S, Fairmont Ghia Wagon and base model Fairlane. The re-introduction of the magnificant Futura and giving Tickford a proper introduction and image the revamped XR range. The introduction of Smartlock immobilisation and keyless entry across the range. Adoption of R134a CFC-free refrigerant and a engagement brake in manual transmissions to stop gear clash when selecting reverse. Who could forget, Ford finally discovered the art of painting door handles. On the safety front ABS as standard on Fairmont, side intrusion beams strenghtened 30% more than the standard required and strenghtened strikers. ED auto sixes are fitted with 3.08:1 final drive ratio to improve fuel consumption by .2 L/100km over the EB. Improved urethane bushing in the suspension allowed for a more firmer location of the front bar for more progressive transition in cornering. I don't exactly know what it means but put simply it was built to lap up corner after corner. Quad headlamps started a fashion that lasted till 2002 when the AUIII rolled off the line with the final fitment of quads. However the BA range has a strong hint of Quad-ness about them. So there you go, ED's are the best, for such a short model run and to have Ford improve them so much makes them a much sought after model whose rounded grill make any EB parked next to an ED look much outdated. The only 1st phase E-Series run to have quad lamps standard on it's XR series. How do you like them apples?

EL XRs, by far the bext looking E-series, full boyd kit, red, lowered, sunroof, doesnt get much better. I know im gona get screwed for this but they look better the the EL GT to much crap body kit and a 4 meter spoiler, ugly grill also. |

Funny thing is the consensus at MOTOR was, if you were to stick the rear end of the ED onto the VR Commonwhore then you'd have a sexuating car in style terms. I'm still amazed how long Holden clung onto that look, all the way to VS, alongside the EF anyone could've told you that the VR looked like a style disaster. HOW CAN PEOPLE FIND THAT CAR VISUALLY ATTRACTIVE!!
