Anyone else noticed that when the stig is doing his timed lap, that the camera in the back of the car keeps dissapearing. 1 Shot it's there plain as day on the back window, then in the next shot its gone again.

If you say you won't watch it, then bloody well don't, so the people who actually like the show don't have to listen to your whinging every week.
agree...... go watch that drive show on saturdays then.... see how good that is huh

You guys complaining about us complaining about the show should realize that critisism generally leads to improvement. Thats the whole point of critisism and freedom of speech. If everyone who wishes the show was better stopped watching it, the show would be axed due to lack of viewers. I also don't like the show as much as the UK version. I think the problem is that they are trying too hard to copy the UK show. And because they are, it is quite reasonable to expect ppl to compare the 2. In this respect the show fails. If you have never seen the UK version then the show is ok (just ok) If you look at the show as pure entertainment, well the jokes are somewhat lame and the challenges lack substance. If you look at it as a car show, then it's just silly and not all that informative. They are more concerned about the hoon value of the car rather then giving proper specs and an unbiased driving opinion.

And as some have commented, the producers and the compairs all seem to be Holden boys.

I will however still watch the show every week as it does have the occasional good review and is mildly entertaining and really, theres not much else to choose from in Aussie automotive entertainment/information. But I can still live in hope that it will improve.

Well, I'll probably have to eat a serve of humble pie in due course, but I've got an awful feeling that the GTHO will be a big disappointment around the track. To start with, its a big, heavy 4 door sedan on what is a fairly tight track, so instant disadvantage there. If its in original trim, by modern standards, it'll have rubbish brakes, ancient suspension, and ordinary tyres. Its sole strength is that it'll be quickish down the back straight, assuming it can get the power down properly on what often looks like a dusty, dirty track surface.

For the life of me, I just can't see how it will hold a candle to any of the sharper cars they've had around there.

even if the HO is slower around the track by a country mile it WONT be a disappointment for me

bring comparable cars of the early 70s around the same track in standard from and that is a FAIR comparison

expecting it to run fast times by todays standards is just nonsense

these comments that it will be a disappointment are very suprising - what do people expect. M3 times???

Sorry, I should have put some context around my comment about the GTHO. Its just that the show built-up the fact that they were going to get the GTHO on the track, and with all the oohs and ahhs that go with such a marque, there MAY be an unrealistic expectation of what times it will achieve. After all, the sole purpose of the test track thus far has been which car can record the best time.

Will it be a fun, exciting, nostalgic, sideways, opposite-locking way to tear around the track? Probably. Will it be really quick by today's standards? I doubt it.

I'm looking forward to seeing it as much as anyone else. Just don't take the times too seriously, that's all.

Totally agree. But it would be far better if they did a group of 70s cars so that you CAN compare. Like the GTHO, an A9X, a GTR XU1, a Charger etc..

now THAT would be something to see.

Yeah right.
I just watched the first half of last nights show so my comments above need "updating"

G8 and 370Z stories very good - . MUCH better than previously seen. Just goes to show what an impact adrenaline from a good drive can do. Or maybe James just had a red cordial and got some energy. Either way he shows some real potential AFAIAC.

Steve is not screaming or shouting at the camera quite so much so hopefully there's potential for even him if he stays on that track.

Now imagine if one of us AFForumers had got the gig.

How funny would that be with us armchair critics giving it to one of us!

Didn't see last night’s but from the previous week’s episode I agree there is a little too much of this sort of content and not enough on cars, but........

This site has evolved the term "bogan" into something that could nearly be read as Anti Australian.

Reading some of the negativity in this thread, is pretty much in the same light. People that are seemingly prepared to sit through the same sort of rubbish from the UK (albewithit) a bit of polish and much bigger budget yet draw and quarter a franchise for continuing in the same vein.

"They try too hard to be like the UK version" or the "format is too similar" well it’s a bloody franchise, it’s actually meant to be that way. Sure it’s not as good and you wouldn't expect it to be. If it were replacing the UK version then sure I could understand what is being said. This is a supplementary program to the UK version and as such I say well done SBS for giving this a red hot go. There is another Australianism which on current trend will be degraded to a lower light in future generations, probably starting next month judging current trends.

I think it’s disappointing the level of unrealistic expectations on display on this subject and the seemingly double standard. People would do better to have a read of Andy Wilman’s Blog on TG 13 and how AC/DC played a part in what is the true inspiration and spirit behind Top Gear .

i think the older muscle cars will supprise a few!
they are around 400~600kg lighter, than the current crop of performance cars.

Its going to depend on a number of things, its condition? and how hard someone is prepared to push a 38 year old classic worth close to 3/4 of a million dollars around a tight twisty track..... bearing in mind if the engine goes pop so does probably 200K of its value...... The time it gets will be largely irrelevant.

I am quite sure SBS will have insurance to cover any problems. There is little difference to flogging any other expensive toy like the GT40 they had last year and in the big picture it is only money.

It is an airfield so there is not much to hit and the grass is quite firm to allow for abinitio pilot training "adventures".

Still it would not be fun if it went boom.....(which it didn't as it has already been recorded).

ok i must watch that one. It would beinteresting to see how it goes. We all know how well it did against the cars of its time back in the 70's as it was dubbed the worlds fastest 4 door sedan

Honestly, i dont watch this show live, i download it later on (yeah i no, not supporting it and what not)

I watch it in fast forward. But there is a positive to this, most torrent sites that have TGA, you find people saying 'this'll tide me over till real TG comes back on'. Why is this a positive? The internet is a brilliant medium. And IF they can get some decent, aussie content on the show, people from around the world are watching.

Peoples buying attitudes can be easily manipulated.

In short, an FPV isn't going to find its way to Europe or America because a head CEO somewhere says 'yeah we'll have a couple'. They will however find there way there if a TV show featuring Australian content is well received overseas. And said people overseas say 'yeah, i'll have one of them.'

Don't forget the Sigma. They covered that one too. I'm sure the Camira must be somewhere amongst the mix, surely?

Honestly i think its the best of a Bad bunch (Australian Car Shows), but i still enjoy it. But why not get Neil Crompton, Mark Skaife and John Bowe to do a similar show. Ie Testing cars, and maintaining an intelligent and literate conversation about the general dynamics of each car, and occasionally throwing in a witty comment, of which all 3 are capable of. Obviously with their obligation to channel 7, bar J.B., this cannot happen, but am i the only one who thinks something along those lines?

That challenge on last night's episode didn't make sense. Why did that Hilux need a catcher when the mower that they were racing it against didn't have one?

I missed the first 15 minutes, so did they say why the Hilux mower needed the waste grass brought into the canopy of the vehicle via a pipe when the mower doesn't have a catcher? Or is it just another reason why TGA "sux" compared to the UK version?

Oh well, the only thing that annoyed me about the last episode was the girl that you could see in the audience during the "Star in a bog standard car" segment. She had her mouth right open and laughed at the smallest thing they said, even if it weren't supposed to be funny.
