Went to the Vilis Cafe once.
The sight of one employee exiting a side door to the staff area whilst coughing his guts out, splitting and lighting up a cigarette did it for me. Probably wrong day and time but I left without going inside due to the line up and what I witnessed in the staff area. I've tried the product line at various outlets since then and it didn't seem too bad but my internal jury is still very much undecided.

Vilis also has a cafe on main nth rd Blair Athol, seems easier to park there.

The Chicken Vili's pies are one of the best chicken pies Ive had. Large chunky pieces and loaded with gravy.

Hoping to deliver to Yackandandah today with a load of granite, so wanting to try Gumtree pies if they are open otherwise it will be across the road to Beechworth bakery. Apple turnovers are the best I've had.
Was thinking, the thing I love about country Victoria is the towns are usually only 20-25km apart and most of them have a good bakery in them.

Detail, detail... Meat/gravy ratio, how was the pastry, the heat, the seasoning, did it stay together in your hand to eat?

On the weekend, I tried the Aldi beef and bacon sausage rolls 4 pack. They are the bake at home version kept in the meat section.
Very nice halftime snack whilst watching the game. Plenty of flavor, sausage not sawdust, thick crusty pastry. They could be cut into smaller sizes prior to baking for a party/cocktail snack size. Don't forget to brush with milk before they go into the oven.

That’s quite handy to know, my father has no interest in eating kosher so I end up serving all sorts of horrors to the table (personally I struggle with putting meat and dairy in the same carry bag from the stupormarket). Sounds like they could be a good bit of variety for him.

As long as it's a convection microwave I don't have a problem. Having said that, when stuck in the middle of nowhere recently due to the big C, I was microwaving pies at end of night shift 5am and chucking them in a toaster oven for a few minutes to crisp em up!

Up until now, observer only of this thread.
However, with the talk of microwaves, what's people's thoughts on the microwavable pies and sausage rolls, ie Mrs Macs? I know they are not a substitute for an oven cooked pie/roll, but I find them to be pretty decent when time-constrained.

If we expand into the realm of the freezer isle microwaveables, my go to is pizza pockets. Yes they too are better ovened, but 90 seconds on high in the microwave. Theyre my convenience go to.
