And rental companies now the usual subjects have either restricted supply or abandoned slash and burn pricing.

Aussies love a bargain - or a cheap price that appears to be so. Just watch 'The Castle' to see what they buy off the trading post. "Paid for itself!"

Partner recently looked and test drove a MG… apart from the tinny feel, it did exactly what she wanted and had all the mod cons so to speak, in the end the only reason she did not buy it was because she did not really want a suv

Heard of a few of them having multiple engine replacements, while some have gone into a dealership and basically been told EAD. They don’t care about fixing them, or they don’t even stock parts to repair them. But it depends on which brand. And dealership. They are very average cars though, compared to the competition. You get what you pay for. But i guess many non-car people are happy with pretty average, and don’t even know a good car if it bit them on the bum. They aren’t built for enthusiasts or people who like driving, so they can get away with it with a cheap price tag being the main attraction. |

I've been driving an MY23 I30 Nline Hatch with the DCT for a few weeks now as a daily. For the $$$ (I paid $34k D/a) its a lot of car. Being the N-line its geared slightly more towards "performance driving" then the Active/Elite are but it does get the Turbo Motor, DCT and multilink suspension in the rear (versus torsion beam in the non N-line's) but its still fine. I havent spent much time in the 2.0 versions (base, active or Elite) but Id reccomend the Nline. Can also get an N Line Premium which looks and drives the same, but adds larger screen, electric/heated seats, pano sunroof for about $40k.

Yeah, can get either N-Line with the manual as well as DCT. If my wife could drive manual I would of gone that route.

Yeah I ve got a Puma with a seven speed dual clutch transmission.
Today I had a dawdler beside me in a dying merge lane I wanted to get clear of. I pressed the throttle flat. The dct took half a second to realise that yes the driver wanted it to go from fourth gear back to second. In a manual I would have had plugged in second up in the hungry area press the throttle bang instant response. I ll have to allow for that delay in that situation next time. |

I saw a sign on a shop once- it read “the bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten…”

A brand new SUV 22k drive away with 7 years warranty was always going do very well.
The alternative is buy a second hand 5 to 8 years SUV out of warranty and possibe unkown repair bills. They can still sell the car after 5 years with 2 years warranty left. For the majority of buyers in this price range, warranty, latest technology, comfort and being new is what they prioritise. |
