Ford Performance Vehicles has today confirmed it will widen its choice to customers with an optional six-speed automatic transmission available for the first time on the turbo-charged F6 Typhoon and F6 Tornado with the introduction of the new-look BF FPV range in October.
FPV will be the first Australian high-performance manufacturer to offer a six-speed automatic transmission. The state-of-the-art new ZF 6HP26 gearbox, which features multiple driving modes and a number of innovative driving and safety features, will be available as an option on all FPV models: the quad cam Boss 290 V8-powered GT, GT-P, Pursuit and Super Pursuit and the F6 Typhoon and F6 Tornado with the turbo-charged and intercooled F6 270 Turbo engine. As was the case with the re-engineering of the Tremec T56 six-speed manual, the ZF six-speed automatic transmission has been tailored to suit the unique driving conditions and customer demands of the Australian high-performance vehicle market. “The introduction of a world-class six-speed automatic specifically suited to our conditions continues to build on our credentials as creating high-performance vehicles using the very latest, class-leading technology,” said David Flint, Managing Director of Ford Performance Vehicles. “I am positive this will be an outstanding success.” Ford Performance Vehicles will release full details of its BF range at the Sydney Motor Show on October 13. |

I can't wait to see the quarter mile times for the Typhoon with the auto - i reckon they will be surprisingly quick.

Now, the part which is a bit concerning - if they are still referring to the engines as Boss 290 and F6 270, this suggests precisely sweet diddly in terms of power upgrades. Yes, the new auto box is sensational, but they need to realise that in the performance market, you can't rest on your SERIES 1 power levels. If my assumption is true, if they are willing to go for 4 whole years without even so much as a single kW or Nm of improvement, then FPV really have struck a whole new level of stupidity. Hopefully they can prove me wrong!

Here is the new tail light.
Not much of a change in style but a cleaner more elegant look. |

Overall i think it's an ok update. What 's me is that ford try to do as little as possible in every area as they possibly can. Like Sparkles said the xr8 wheels look like enlarged BA Mk1 Xr6 wheels. And the Fairmont ghia wheels are just about the same too with just a thin slit inside the spoke instead of a chunk being taken out. And they obviously were best in class when learning how to make a 17" wheel look like they are 15" big with the XR6 wheels.

Any News or Rumors as to Power Gain on XR8's Boss 275Kw - 280Kw?
All the non-sports models are getting around 10Kw so the Sports ones must get 10 to 15? |

Personally I read into this that Ford/FPV are being very poker faced about the BOSS/ FPV models. There are lots of "veiled" comments along the line of "more info later". Ford/ FPV know that they will need to combat Holden/ HSV on a level (or at least close to) playing field to succeed. I'd be very suprised if there weren't some gains, especially the alleged adoption of a full dual exhaust for all BOSS vehicles. What I'm really waiting to hear is if we'll get a "TL50" style of vehicle from FPV. The new auto will give them the smoothness they need to compete with the "European only" shopping crowd.
Later, Brad....

It wont be the first car to have chameleon paint, the 1996 Mustang Cobra 'Mystic' was the first, there was also a 2004 'Mystic' Cobra too, which also had chameleon painted leather.

Sounds like the colour on the Falcon will be similar to the '04 Mustang's.

When has drive's dribble ever been taken seriously?? Don't worry about what drive says.
Do you all believe the XR8 will have the same Nm rating as the SOHC 3V 230Kw V8??? hahaha |

rubbish . what do a lot of ba owners do to increase power . almost the 1st mod done is extractors and exhaust . upgrade. now what do you think fpv would put a quad system as a standard fittment on xr8 and GT for . answer because more than 1/2 BAI BAII owners have done just that . and what for . more power and better note . do you think FPV would just say lets have a quad exhaust tailing out the back of our cars it looks better. mmmmmm really guys . this is a car forum aint it . not a makeup applying class.

Don't forget that the Barra 230/500 has VCT whereas the BOSS 260/500 does not. Also hopefully the new 6 speed manual and auto's will allow more of that torque to get realised to the rear wheels.
