I fitted a set of XYZ coilovers front & rear on my BA.
Not impressed with them at all, they may be OK for track work but no matter what you read or hear they are not designed for rough Aussie streets. They bottom out on a regular basis even with the dampeners adjusted to their stiffest setting. The bearings in the top front strut mounts are absolute cheap rubbish and dry as a bone when you open the box. If you get XYZ, then make sure you grease the top bearings a little before you install, and even then they are still rough & clunk occasionally. Your probably better off getting them replaced with a decent Japanese brand bearing before you do the install, I wish I had done this. If you want a little height then don't choose XYZ because they are only designed to drop your Falcon on its guts. Even when they are adjusted to their maximum limit in height they are still too low. The rears are almost useless on a BA and because they are designed to sit so low they either constantly ride on the bump stops or as in my case they sit about 10 mm off them. When you hit a bump the the suspension hits the bump stops and then roughly throws the car back up again. To get around this you have to have the adjustable spring perch extended to its limit & the shocks set at maximum stiffness. But then the ride is just so dam harsh that it's not an enjoyable experience at all. Must be a horrible ride when they are set real low on a Falcon. Many think the the rear bump stops in a falcon are just there to stop bottoming out but they are designed to be part of the suspension and act as an addition to the springs so it is hard to get around this. Some cut them or get shortened ones but they need to be left how they are. Change them in any way and you will have lots of trouble & go through the rear bushes in twice the time. Spend some extra money and get Tein, Bilstein or Koni, & you'll be glad you did because they can be set at a realistic height. Plus all of these three brands can be rebuilt quickly & easily, but you try getting XYZ's fully rebuilt in AUS. I'm not talking about just getting a clean & an oil refill ( you can do that yourself), I mean to replace seals , valves & everything. I wish you luck because if you do find someone with the parts it probably won't be close by, so you can expect some down time.

Hi all, I'd like to lower the fg a bit and make it handle in bumpy corners better.
These coil over kits look better than just putting springs in at different length. Must be a list of **** ones to the best ones somewhere? Also im a bit confused as some of the standard travel limits 'end points' are due to shock length, so if the lowerd spring setup/standard shock length bottoms out all ball joints still only travel the same as intended from factory.... but if we lower the car with adjustable coil overs, by moving the lower mount up the body of the shock and the shock shaft can still travel full stroke the ball joints will travel higher than normal before bottom out?? If so can this cause ball joint damage?

Our bearings are teflon lined with very high brake away, so no grease required. We also offer full service and now starting to get the Shockworks Ford dampers back after 100,000Km's and still in great condition. We charge $120 per damper for a full rebuild. We have also introduced our new adjustment system into the Ford dampers, which almost doubles the previous adjustment range and can be updated with exsiting dampers from years ago. Cheers Brett |

I have both front & rears set at their maximum height and almost maximum stiffness on the dampers. If I set them any other way I bottom out on anything bigger than a tennis ball. Brett any updates for anyone who can update or service the Shockworks up here in Brisbane? Mine has ticked over 100,000km's and would be keen on a service or update with the damper adjustments if you have someone.

We would need to fit out a place with all the gassing gear and parts as well as months of training, so can't be justified at the moment mate. We have to perform some precision machining as well to modify the rods to suit the new adjustment system, so we much prefer to keep this in house for quality reasons. My Shockworks coilovers for the BA XR6T have done over 100,000Km's now and going to get the service done soon. A question does the service include the replacement of the rear upper shock bush and the rubber ring bit at the top of the rear spring seat too? Thanks! |

The service includes replacing all the internal seals and also updating the dampers to the latest tuning we have done if you wish. The shock bushes are not included in the service and are around the $40 mark to replace both of them, but I will have to check if we have any of the top bushes in stock as we don't replace them much. My FG F6 is about to hit 100,000 and I've had Shockworks coilovers on it since 5000km (2014). They've performed perfectly on both street and track. I've recently been getting a bit of creaking at the front end, not sure where from but I was thinking it's probably time to get the dampers looked at anyway. Just reading the last few posts here about having to send back to base for the service - what's the cost all up for this, including the tuning changes? What exactly does the new damper tune address?

This is how they are boxed. Packed very well - double boxed, foam covered. Great start.
Looks too good to fit. All fitted and with just a limited test around the block, the car feels great.

I have passed on everything I learned over the 20 years of tuning dampers and he has now he own ideas about valving that has truly impressed me. He now knows more about damper at 27 than I did at 40 haha. His feel and technique on the race track is also beautiful to watch and now cracking my lap times, but was waiting for that to happen:-( His passion and excitment when tuning a car is is just amazing to watch. So I’m sitting here sifting through forums and I found this one. Read all 9 pages and dammit it’s gonna cost me money cause now I want a set for my BA XR8 Ute. She’s stock as a rock and only just clicked over 110000 K’s. The suspension is a bit sad.
