That last shot makes the dump truck look like a Tonka toy!

Some may recall my previous posts on this subject, but for those who missed it, I am a member of a volunteer group who winds our local clock. The clock is a replica of the original post office, located within the local mall.
Original Sale Post Office (with clock tower): Current replica clock tower: The mechanism is manually wound, using two weights to create the energy to run. One weight is for the running mechanism whilst the other is for the striking mechanism. A full wind run time is 8 days, 13 hours and 43 minutes. My mate, who is a photographer, joined me a while back to get some pics for a show he was conducting. These are the two that don't have me in them. The mechanism, apparently, is exactly the same design as that which runs Big Ben in London, just a smaller scale.

Nice work, reminds me of the Italianate clock tower in Camperdown, Victoria.

Early morning ride down the coast to Innes Park North while a Sugar Ship makes it's way into the Burnett River...
Back home jumped into the Kayak for a quick paddle up the river and through the Mangroves... Back into the river proper with the Sugar Ship now moored and loading at the Bundaberg Sugar wharf... Nearly back at the marina, had to turn up the wick to get back in time for the start of the "Great Race", made it with 2min 30sec to spare lol...

My father - a big fan of colonial style explorers - met him informally as a young man; his ongoing humility in the face of global acclaim left an impression.

To my mind... THE Greatest solo rider ever! Read his autobiography a few years ago “The will to win” Incredible stuff going to England at 16 or 17 with nothing but skill.

Bert Munro.
The South Island east coast seemed bike-mad, you too would have heard the stories of all the military surplus unloaded for a relative pittance, post-war. |

true story....during WW2 my dad was part of YMCA and had amazing freedom to travel wherever needed, early in northern Africa, then through Italy.
When travelling into a NZ bas camp in Egypt he spied 4 USA jeeps off the track, after making the usual official cowtowes he asked what was going on. Discovered 4 USA army knobs and their drivers trying to mind their own business, enquired of them and soon found out the jeeps were on a suspected (to USA) mine field, upon further question it was implied if he was stupid enough to try retrieving jeeps he would be rewarded. Didnt take long for Kiwi intelligence to provide a way out and he quickly paid 3 other guys to follow him. When jeeps drive in sand they leave tracks, if, you drive in reverse on the same tracks success was in order. After paying above assistant drivers he had sufficient to start car sales business when he returned to NZ after the war. We finally sold his Bedford truck in 1975 and yes I understand he was also involved in some skulduggery of american equipment being 'mislaid'

My old man also rode solos... First at Melbourne exhibition speedway and later at Maribyrnong’s Tracy’s speedway.. I remember a tale he told about a night at Melb. Ex. Speedway when the winners of the heats, then the semis, got to race Lionel Van Praag (the 1st Aussie world champ) Dad was one of the 3 against Van Pragg. Dad thought he got a great start, until Van pragg passed him in a shower of cinders on the first corner and disappeared into nowhere.. Lap 3, Van Pragg lapped the 3 of em, and went on to win by a lap and a half.. In a 4 LAP race! Dad was riding a 4 stud JAP from memory after graduating from Rudges... Random pic of dear old Dad (RIP mate!) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
