And Alan Purvis car was a Oz version of the earlier UK Sterling / US Nova.

See http://www.therightsigns.co.uk/nova/introduction.htm

so Richard Oakes rather than Purvis was the designer of the Eureka.

see also http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au...nfo_purvis.htm

Quote:
Australia came to learn of car manufacturer Purvis Cars following the 1974 Melbourne Car Show, when the sensational "Eureka" was displayed for the very first time. Motor Magazine (then named "Modern Motor") featured the Eureka on its June 1974 edition cover, and not to be outdone Sports Car World then headlined with "We Drove it First" for their July 1974 edition. The Eureka actually started life in the UK in 1971, there called the Nova.

The concept then went to the US as the Sterling and South Africa as the Eagle. But it was Aussie Alan Purvis that came across the Nova while on holiday in the UK in late 1971, he quickly setting about creating distribution agreements for Australia and New Zealand. Alan renamed the Nova as "Eureka" in recognition of the fighting spirit demonstrated by the miners at the Eureka Stockade, and even went as far as adoption the Eureka flag as the companies symbol

^I can definitely see the Sterling resemblance. I actually knew a guy who bought one, first time I'd seen a canopy car, and he installed into it the boxer engine out of a Subaru mated to a Porsche 914 transaxle. Pretty interesting car! There was a concept car out from Peugeot or someone else this year with a canopy design, and of course there was the never produced Hurricane (only mentioned because it was an Aussie supercar and would have been pretty cutting edge if it were released).

the Purvis were not popular in WA; no flow through and just too hot inside for our climate and the early ones were impossible to air con. They were actually built under licence to Nova UK.

Sorry, I was stranded at a property up the road - the floods here in Southern NSW had cut off all our roads. I should haven't have been so cruel as to not leave a clue - you sir are the true king of this thread. I step aside, for you.

;)

There's a video of it on youtube and it looks quite elegant and pretty - longer and lower than these pics indicate.

They played around with the side air intakes over the model's life and even deleted them:

That looks like a VW Type 145 knock off, and it seems to have independant rear in one of the other shots, or at least must have had at one stage. I say knock off because I am pretty sure it's not a Volkswagen..

..but what it is, I don't know! Michelotti had a hand in many designs but this just *looks* closer to home? Is it a boutique Italian, possibly meant for US export (looking at those rear bumpers and left hand drive)?

Clue: The company was taken over by a larger one and now its name is used for that company's truck division.

The company had some Renault links early in its life so likely a little inspired by the Renault Dauphine.

I think this version looks a bit more Dauphine Floride inspired:
