I got to have a drive of my XR6, XR8 and Mustang today. A rare occasion when work, weather and logistics get in the way.
The XR8 was feeling extra stout this morning too.

Every day lately ive had my little mate come around and perch's on my deck. Ever since the bushfires, theres been way more native birds. I refuse to feed it or go anywhere near it. I know mother birds disown juniors in such circumstances. But its a good looking junior kookaburra. Its not good for a laugh, but if it sees something it will duck away and come back to chill.
I do like native wildlife. And whilst its probably not the most appropriate place, being in suburbia, i dont mind the kookaburras having a laugh when the sun comes up, and the rosellas and rainbow lorekeets being noisy when the sun goes down. |

I've actually ticked off a few things on my to do list in quick succession. Far more than I did last year.
Though I had to abort pulling apart my laptop to clean out the dust because there was a clip that looked brittle due to me not noticing it and trying to pry it apart and my luck was I rounded the head on the last ****en screw too that caused that problem But I was happy I managed to put it back together and it still works. I won't attempt again until I get a new computer |

Dunno if its just my sense of humour or im a bad child. So a while back i got my kid a usb stick, and changed the name on it to paul. So thats not terrible.
Today, i took my kid out to dinner, and knowing he has the memory of an inatimate object, i had bought him another usb stick for the game he wanted. And i named it also. So my mum was there and she is very religious. But i gave hints. I said its a people name, and if a person called bill's name is william, then whats the proper name of a person called dick? My kid didnt get it, he may be 11, but i think he is doing pretty well to not do swear words. My mum gave me the eyes of death. But she got it right. Yep, my kids new usb is called richard. My kid didnt get why i laughed, but my mums initial reaction, it was almost like she was going to get in the car to go up the shop specifically to buy a wooden spoon then break it over my ****. The next usb i buy my kid im going to call it Stanley. My mum was fine with that. She knew fully well what i meant. As an apprentice, the typical threat from an aussie tradesman was along the lines of would you like a ride in an ambulance? One english bloke, his threat was asking if you want to meet his mate Stanley. He was from the soccor hooligan days. You dont need to be a rocket surgeon to work out what that means. |

I did something worse for a mate’s son, they dropped in briefly as he was en route to their end-of-weekend custody handover with the lad’s mother. Sent him on his way with a little ziplock bag of holographic glitter flakes that you add to custom car paint. Apparently the kid duly opened the bag at his mum’s house and the stuff got spread around nicely.

Yesterday 5/1/21 i went out with a mate of mine for lunch whom i have known for 42 years.
As we are talking i notice a few tables from us an old lady maybe 85 years old her Wallet (purse) had fallen out of her handbag was behind her chair on the ground. My mate said what are you looking at and i told him to turn around and look on the ground. I gave it about ten minutes then walked over to her table and said "hi did you drop this out of your hand bag"? I handed her the Wallet and she said a "big thank you" and went back to my table. |

Mowed my back lawn today. The front still looks houso; unwashed cars, a scrap metal pile and eight inch grass, but the back is country club smooth.

Was out getting take away and a lady and 2 kids in front orders, and for whatever reason she didnt have enough for one of the meals.
They walked out (I was actually waiting for the staff to just give it to her, but where do you draw the line?) and I said I would pay for it, and got my 12 year old to hand it to them. Who knows the back ground, but I couldnt just stand there.

The postal service. The Mrs dropped her phone on Sunday while on holidays and killed the screen (not cracked but nonetheless equally dead). So upon returning I ordered a replacement from Melbourne at 6:30 Tuesday evening. Knowing the usual, glacial pace of post hereabouts, I figured it would be a Monday next week job. However, at 9:42 this morning a van rolled into the driveway and within due course she was glued to it once more and I could abscond, unnoticed to yonder shed..

Did the weekly call to my mum. The courtesy one. Yes i do see her weekly with my kid, but thats a bit different.
And she was well excited to tell me that A: the place i told her to get masks from, and she did, they dont fog up her glasses. Mums not blind as a bat, she just doesnt see good. But, the mask i bought my kid, he made grandma buy the same, but being blue, printed and in general, a boys colour. Mums giving it to her boyfriend who lives in the 'danger zone'. I dont care about that at all, i dunno why my mum was so happy. She has been so salty about restrictions and such lately, but dunno, maybe it may be because she has just accepted change¿. But whats funny, not ha ha funny. Mum tells me you should change your washable face mask as often as your undies. And i countered that. Bonds claims to make very comfy undies, so today i bought her a 3 pack of bonds face masks. I had done that before i made the phone call. They dont appear to be y fronts for a face mask, but still, I'll give her a bit for wearing them. |

I mentioned elsewhere that at the end of last year I quit one of my gardening clients.
After 15 years I was being questioned about my prices, with more and more being expected for the same or less price. The customer seemed to be oblivious to how much I was doing outside of just "mowing the grass". The guy even stated that what I was doing wasn't rocket science, but guess who gets called when my 15 years of horticultural knowledge is needed when a certain plant is looking sick or irrigation system needs attention? I persisted for a while but was over it. I drove past today and noticed the lawns had been mowed. With the gutters not cleaned and grass and green marks all over the driveway, I know this won't have pleased the owners. You pay peanuts, you get monkeys. I feel empowered to have moved on, and makes the drop in income somewhat more palatable.

Thats 100% correct. And ive never been an employer, only an employee. Part of the job is keeping repeat customers. And again, part of that is doing what you get paid for. So not half jobing it. And a happy customer is happy to pay. Theres always the ones who cheap out, and theyre the complainers. Well, they come crawling back.
If you were doing a substandard job, you wouldnt have clients in the first place. Or atleast repeat business. |

It’s hard not to overservice when you have high standards and there are clear deficiencies on the negotiable fringe of your scope.
I often think it’s unfair only real estate keeps a semi-national “s*** list”. (There should be one for repeat idiot pet owners, too, but that’s a whole ‘nother thread…) |

Speaking about haggling on price, you do that before not after the service has been completed. And if you haggled before I would have said go there then
I remember one woman come to pick up an order once and asked for a discount. I said you knew the price before you picked up and that was on the receipt. She goes but it is cheaper over there. I said to her I don't fill my car up with petrol, then go down the road, see it for cheaper and then expect to come back for a discount. The look on her face was like the Windows loading icon that goes on and on |

I decided late last year I only want to work for people I like. You are a long time working, I don't need the stress of an idiot client. On happy customers, my favorite client gave me a raise today. She said that they appreciate my hard work and love the way the garden looks. I appreciated the kind words more than the rise in pay. The human race seems to be all to quick in pass on criticism. Sometimes a few kind words will get you further than complaining or pointing out others faults.
