I think you’d find putting a recipro through a scrap tyre almost so satisfying as I did today. It “fights” you a bit, as the wires catch on the blade, the rubber vibrates heavily and it pushes away from the saw. I used a carbide tipped “thick metal” nine inch blade that was bought for chopping CI pipe. So when you finally have two half-tyres it feels like a hard-won fish.
Other “feel good” moment was rediscovering the lost key to a parts car; don’t need it yet but a lot simpler than trying to power up the door locks from the front jambs. |

I got a temporary pay rise today backdated to the 1st until at least the end of April in recognition of all the extra **** I'm doing in and have on my plate.
Always good to have a boss that goes into bat for you and also good when a stroke of luck means you have the higher ups that get it. Though I suspect they are buttering me up for a role I certainly don't want, I will enjoy the extra pesos in the meantime and cross that bridge when I get to it |

For the first in the 17 years in the workforce, i actually got a tax return. Previously it was tax bills. Ranging from 700 up. So a minor return, that's a win for me.

Hitting the gym after 3 weeks (recovering from an illness).
Buggered now even though I went easy.

I contacted my brother in law today. My brother turns 40 soon, so i needed the ok on what i bought him for his birthday. So my brother inlaw is a guitarist in a band, and has multiple guitars. I know nothing about guitars. But i sent him the specs on the guitar i bought my brother for his 40th. I got the ok. So i dont like my brother enough to pay for a gibson les paul, but i bought him an epiphone les paul classic. So i dunno if my brothers amp works, its only a small 25w thing, and i dont want to give anything away, so kind of like buying a kid a toy but no batteries, i also bought a small 30w marshall amp and a lead. I reckon thats a pretty decent gift as my brothers existing electric is from 1994, pretty beat up and in need of repair.

Changed the radiator in my express van today, old one was blocked up causing an increase in temp even on mild days. Got a 2 core heavy duty replacement, bloke gave me 25% trade discount, and it swapped like a boss, its held in with 1 bolt!

I received the 1st bit for the present i bought my brother for his 40th today. Now, i bought this amp and then looked up what it can do, man shopping style. So yeah, its only a 30w. But its probably going to be better then his existing 1994 model 25w epiphone amp. So its a marshall. But it has a headphone output if you dont want to annoy the neighbours, it has an input if you want to plug in a phone or what not for a backing track. And it has memory settings. So it has all the dials etc, but you can save settings. So off the bat, it beats the **** out of his old amp. Well, its new and still unopened in the box, but im assuming its going to better then a cheapy from 27 years ago.

Most likely, yes.
Shame you’re not a tinkerer, there are great amp kits around. https://www.mojotone.com/kits/Blackf...tyle-Amp-Kit_2 |

It’s warm if you’re working outside in Sydney! Hopefully no heat/stress issues for people cleaning up after flooding.

I received the guitar i bought my brother for his birthday today. So im not going to open it, i wouldnt know what im looking at anyways. But speaking to people who have had the epiphone les paul, and people who've shelled out for the gibsons. The general consensus is the gibsons probably better, but both sound good but are heavy. Anyhow, a gibson les paul new is as much as the car i bought my brother. The epiphone still wasnt what id consider cheap at all, but less then a car. And a vintage gibson les paul, yeah nah, especially just for a creative outlet. But over the past few days ive been watching reviews of the epiphone on the interwebs, but they all seem 90% positive. So it should be ok for a guitar person.

I feel good not being on a container ship in the Suez right now:
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-03-...ping/100027188 Seems to be quite properly stuck. I don’t think it will be eight years blocked like before, but how they resolve it - the scale of operations - could be interesting. |

Back at the G for the first time in about 18 months. Pretty smooth process to get in but only 41,000 turned up.
Unfortunately the hapless hawks didn't get up.

The Ever Given’s ~400m long, that’s about 55 stubby containers. Each “slice” across the deck would have 200-250 containers. The balance could be below deck. It’s good they dislodged it; as a few commentators observed, the dynamics of shipping, warehousing and timeliness of delivery were already impacted by a year of COVID-19.
