Question Are these cobra owners kidding themselves or not ?

Just had a look on carsales and it would appear that many owners and dealers for that matter thought they could make a profit on such a car. They have very low kms and are asking very high dollars. Yes it was a great idea at the time , but did they really think they had something that collectable in the modern era. Now with the new supercharged gt and gs for that matter , these so called collectables dont seem so collectable anymore.

sorry cannot get the link working on this for some reason.

Funny how a good xc will always be worth more than a good bf. what were thay thinking about ,waiting another 30 years and hoping to make some money. I think those days are long gone in the ford camp.

I did,nt say it annoys me, don,t know where you got that one from mate. I think its a bit of a joke that people pay so much money for a car and dont even drive it, whats the point of that and then to ask some way way over the top prices. one of my beasts is 44 years old and I aprreciate not everyone aprreciates a classic piece of ford ,but it appears they bought with delusional dollar signs in there head. looks like you got a gt(modern) of your own, do you drive it often or are you waiting for it to go up in value too?

They do still sell at prices over $65,000....

And I stress the word SELL - not advertise at and dream...

I can vouch for 2 x cars in the past 3 months that have sold for circa $65,000...

If they're over priced they wont sell.... Advertised price means nothing.

An 08 plated car with 73km on the clock isn't someone testing the market. Clearly they bought it with the intention of trying to flip it for a profit. Will it work? Probably not. I'd actually have concerns that it was stored correctly.

Wonder if he'd let me take it for a test drive.

I think that anyone who 'invests' in modern cars to make money will find that it is not very profitable...

Feel free to buy a BF Cobra or the like, store it for 20 years... and let me know how you go in 2030... ;)

$65k maybe, but $118k??? These guys are dreaming!! And hows the description;

Quote:
The price, all things considered, is exceedingly reasonable and the loved one for whom this vehicle is intended will also be the luckiest person in the world knowing they are not an 'average' person in the eyes of the buyer and will reward the buyer with above average gratitude and recognition for the love and care shown by the purchaser in procuring this vehicle in the 1st instance
Sounds to me like hes just taking the p***...

would love to know what it actually sells for.

I agree, but more like 40 years. Cars from 1990 aren't really worth much yet. 30 yo cars are just starting to appreciate in value.

XD Falcon, it's a classic now

The good thing about the GFC is that is separated the 'investors' from the enthusiasts.

It's only worth what the buyers willing to pay. There's a huge difference between 'I want' and 'I got'. Then again, most people were baulking at buying a genuine GT's 20 years ago when they were around 30k. Now people with XW/XY GT copies are asking the same or more.

yeah i drive it. it's coming to it's 90,000 service.
it was never bought as investment, it was bought to drive and enjoy, something i found difficult with the XB GT it replaced.

you're right about paying so much for a car then NOT driving it. i know quite a few people with early GT's that drive them to shows then straight back home again. might have something to do with the uncomfortable vinyl seats that stick to them or stone chips or being blown away by modern cars

still everyone to their own. the price for that cobra is stupid but then to me so are prices for the old metal.

I love how they consider $118K as a 'throw-away' price

Well you would be "throwing your money away" if you paid that much coin for that particular car.

As nice as they are - they are certainly not comensurate with that sort of money. 50 - 60 K ....maybe.....and then you're encroaching into COYOTE territory.

Or even, swap some of those words around, and for $118K you can put the COYOTE in a Territory....hmmm

To me they are a fine car and worth a % more than a normal BF. But not this money. That said it a limited run car with instant recognition so whop knows its worth what someone will pay. If the are paying $65,000 then that's the number.

Mind you the ute for $43k is good buying.

As far as investing goes, take you $80k and buy BHP or Westpac shares and see what they are worth in 30 years.

Those advertisments reek of people trying to turn a dollar. If you buy a car and not intend to drive it then youre probably a collector with deep pockets and you wouldnt be selling it anyway.

Plus for the money I would rather have a new 335 GT and the resale would probably be better than a Cobra over time

Somewhere from 40-49K is my estimate market value for a used example..
There's a 1600k one there for 64K so that's an indication of the top asking price IMO.

Cant see why they'd be more than 10% above the equivalent Std GT....

Anything over 64K is getting far too close to the S/C GT IMO.
