Devotees of WW2 history and fans of Stephen Ambrose's book "Band of Brothers" as well as the HBO mini-series, wil be saddened to learn of the passing of a true hero:

Haven't read the book but I love the miniseries. If it's half as accurate as has been suggested then he was a great leader.

A part of the greatest Generation.. RIP Dick Winters.

Winters did not make any money off his memoirs or the speeches he gave later in his life. His royalties from the book went to a variety of organizations, including veterans groups, breast-cancer research organizations and the Ronald McDonald house in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where he lived for years.
